  1. If I am not wrong (I‘m not at work so I can‘t check in their AIP) the Chinese also publish procedural altitudes in QFE (and metric units of course). Commercial chart vendors like Lido or Jeppesen usually convert these to altitudes QNH for „western“ airlines. The same is done by the way for the FMS database codings of these terminal procedures (which is also done by these companies). But that is another story...:music_whistling:
  2. I‘m using my TrackIR for more than 10 years now and still have the original that I purchased back then running with the latest software (v5 IIRC). A very faithfull device which has probably seen more than 3000hrs of usage without any glitch! Must have for flight simulation (unless you go for VR of course).
  3. weird. Is the issue reproducible? Does it always happen in Caucausus with the Hornet after 30-45 sec? Is it always the same mission that you are running or have you tried with different scenarios (air start, ramp start, etc)?
  4. For a VFR pilot, is there actually any regulation that prescribes how you achieve flying at 1000ft above aerodrome elevation in the pattern? When taking off you actually have the choice, right? Because even if the tower or some met report provides you with the QNH only, you could still change the pressure setting so thatnyour altimeter reads zero on the runway. Then just fly up until it reads 1000. If you want to use QNH, fine, just add the aerodrome elevation to the 1000 ft and that is your pattern altitude in MSL. It probably is also a matter whether your VFR chart set shows heights AGL or altitudes MSL.
  5. Probably because you would be surprised to learn how complex that exercise would be (if possible at all without access to source code). It is not a matter of copy and pasting some lines of code from the A-10C. Such a pod is very much integrated and interconnected with avionics and other system. And from a modders point of view (assuming it would be doable), you would invest quite some time to come up with an intermediate solution nobody would be using anymore after DCS gives us the ATFLIR....
  6. QFE in Nevada (likewise in Normandy and Persian Gulf) does not make sense since it is not used in those countries. I assume it goes back to the roots of DCS where there only was the Caucasus theater. A significant portion of the Caucasus map covers Russia and at russian airfields they actually do work with altitudes in reference to the airport/runway threshold elevation. Just look up an approach plate from the Russian AIP. Just as IvanK wrote, some countries do work with QFE in the terminal area. From a pilots perspective one advantage of QFE over QNH that I could think of is that you are always exposed to the same altitude numbers at the same distances from the runway (assuming a standard 3° path) regardless of the airports elevation. But I am far from being in a position to judge which system is the better. Probably just a question of what you are used to...
  7. Yeah, I meant QFE, thanks for correcting me (Even though you also have to use your standby altimeter for setting QNE (29.92) when operating in an airspace that requires you to do so, e.g. in civil airspace above transition altitude :smilewink:)

  9. So, to sum it up, you set the QNH or QNE (depending on the local procedures) only in the standby altimeter and this setting will be used by both the mechanical standby altimeter as well as by the air data computer which processes the displayed HUD altitude.
  10. I believe what you describe is how it should be. But it does not apply for our Hornet in its current state. Even without a fusing set, the bombs explode and have an effect on the target. Tried it out last night: Dropped Mk84s on two moored ships in a port with all fuzes OFF. Got the DUD cue, dropped in CCIP nevertheless and sunk both of them. Nice fireworks :lol:
  11. Yeah, I think someone told 500, somewhere else I recall having heard 600ft. And I believe it was the same source that also talked about 20° S-turn. :smilewink:
  12. I‘m under the impression that for carrier takeoffs you are supposed to stay below 500ft until you are outside of a 7NM bubble around the carrier to be vertically separated from arriving traffic.
  13. That works well for airfields where you have a taxiway parallel to the active runway which provides entry/exit at each runway end. Or if you just have a taxiway that just intersects the runway close to a runway end (like in Batumi). For some airfields like Abu Musa or Sirri Island in the PG or Beslan in the Caucasus where there are taxiways which only allow to enter the runway at or near the middle of it and where you usually would want the do a backtrack before takeoff, you are bound to face such issues with AI currently. I don‘t think there is a lot you can do to mitigate the issue. You might want to do your backtrack, line up for takeoff and start your run once your AI wingman has stopped (somewhere on the rwy) and your are confident that you can safely steer around him while accelerating. After you are airborne, the guy should be able to do his takeoff and join you a few moments later.

  17. WIP. Even though Wags in a not too recent video showcased that HT function has been developed, that code never made it into any update so far.
  18. Wouldn‘t placing the radar on the left DDI result in the lower portion of the radar screen occasionally being overlaid with any ADVisories? I though that is why you normally have it on your right DDI only.

  20. If you assign the TDC to an axis instead of buttons you can tune the axis so that the TDC cursor moves as fast or as precise as you want. I have the TM Warthog throttle and didn‘t change either axis for the Hornet, I just use the same axis tuning as for the Hog where I use it intensively for slewing the TGP. I found that speed and precision on the Hornet radar works very well for me with the sam axis tuning.

  24. Does this autoexec.cfg trick also work for single player? Usually I don‘t have any use for ttrackfiles but I am absolutely looking for anything that could make my system run faster and smoother (even by just 0.1 percent).
  25. Strange, the button works fine for me on the first press. I have it assigned to the red button on the TM Warthog‘s left throttle (which in the A-10C is the Autopilot disconnect button).
