  1. I was about to ask the same. Thanks Sep! Looks like a very sleek and neat setup.
  2. I think that is understandable because after a shot, you‘re now looking at the seeker image of a different missile which was not slewed to your previous target. I don’t believe the seeker heads of multiple missiles aboard are synchronized in any way. You only control and slew the seeker of the individual missile on the station you have selected.
  3. The main thing about the HTS is that it provides a range of the emitter in addition to the bearing. That enables optimal flight profiles for the missile and therefore allows for greater range shots. Not having a ranging capabilty means the HARM cannot be employed to its full potential as the already mentioned and dedicated SEAD assets F-16C/CJs or German Tornado ECR aircraft can do. Nevertheless I am very much looking forward to lob them from our Hornet soon :)
  4. The plebiscite was not about „what“ aircraft type, that selection was up to and done by the MoD. The public was asked to approve or deny the intended purchase of Gripen E jets. They denied it very closely. Plebiscites are very common and regular in Switzerland, a very interesting political system. Has its caveats as well, of course. But I stop here since we‘re not supposed to discuss politics here (...and that is good!).
  5. Hi Peter, the E-2 and E-3 cannot perform JTAC task - besides many other reasons, keep in mind a JTAC naturally is located very close to the enemy while the aforementioned airborne assets are usually operating in a certain distance to the battlefield. You can try either ground assets like a Humvee or a Stryker or use air assets, an A-10 can do the job or you can use an unmanned Reaper/Predator (I always forget which one we have...). Regardless of the unit chosen bear in mind there are distance limitations for the laser designation (IIRC something around 7 or 8 miles maximum). So if you place the JTAC unit too far away from the target(s) it shall assign then the laser designation does not work - JTAC will then use a Type 3 without designation. When using the "Assign Group" advanced waypoint action, you will already see a little warning in the ME when the distance for laser designation is too big or when there is no Line-of-Sight at all. In general, there plenty of good reads here in the forum on JTAC setups. Just search and browse. Cheers
  6. Well, with Switzerland being a neutral country and therefore very strictly not being involved in any kind of "extraterritorial operations", it is only somewhat consequent that they don't do A/G. If the balloon will ever go up and Switzerland will face a ground threat at their borders then that'll be an issue they won't solve anyway with a handful of Hornets and Tigers... Air policing is a different story - even though they even do that only during "office hours". During the nights or weekends arrangements are in place with the neighboring states and their Air Forces to cover Switzerland then. I heard this is going to change in the future but I'm not 100% sure.
  7. I‘ve found that to be a very helpful principle in mission design in order to make it easier to build the mental picture when AWACS is giving information. When bullseye is set too far away from the action, say far south of it, all the bandits posits are always „somewhere north“. If bullseye is right in the middle of the party bearings from it will vary much and makes it much easier to find the bogeys and bandits.
  8. There is a similar thread about anti-ship and how much it takes to down a warship. see here: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=226755
  9. you are welcome
  10. The mini updates are notifications where Wags provides updates about what the team is working on and other stuff, all talking about the Hornet exclusively. Mini updates are NOT software updates. Also, there is no schedule or timeline on when Wags provides updates, though they are pretty regular. OB (and stable version) updates are software updates pushed every second Wednesday (with a few exceptions). OB and stable updates usually alternate weekly. So this Wednesday was an update to the stable version, next week will be OB, Wednesday therafter stable again and so on. These updates do not only contain updates the Hornet but to the DCS world in general and other modules as well.
  11. When the hornet wasn‘t out yet I was flying the Viggen a lot in a huge, self-made anti-ship SP mission. The target was the Kuznestov carrier accompanied by the Moskva cruiser and the Neutrashemiy and one tanker. A pretty capable and very well defended battle group. I flew that mission at least 20 or 30 times (often to refine my AI assets to achieve a near simultaneous engagment of the red battle group). Blue side were 4 divisons of F/A-18C (yes, 16 Hornets:)), each jet loaded with 4 Harpoons. Plus 1 flight of 4 Tornados with 2 Sea Eagles each and then two flights of Viggens (one was my flight) with 4 Viggens each loaded with 2 Rb-15Fs. You do the math and see that in the end, provided all fired and not went defensive too early (red launched some Flankers off the Kuznetsov) there were 88 (!) high precision anti-ship missiles running in on the carrier group. Still, more than often the Kuznetsov survived, sometimes even the Moskva as well. When the anti-ship missiles survived the SAMs lobbed at them, which was rare anyway, they got neutralized by the CIWS systems onboard the red ships. I really had to overwhelm them by the sheer number of missiles to get a few hits. The Kuznetsov can take more than 5 Harpoons and still be afloat, I don‘t remember the exact number of hits it took to sink it which I (or AI respectively) managed only a few times. So, in a nutshell, you don‘t sink a warship in DCS easily by just a few missiles. It takes a very well coordinated attack of many assets to achieve that. An Iranian boghammar is something different though but we don‘t have these in DCS yet (armed speedboat is as close as you can get and that is fine for me for the time).
  12. I have similar experience as others, most of the time the mod works just fine. I could not identify a pattern for the occasions when it did not work. Sometimes I sent wingmen to refuel before myself and my probe was retracted and it worked perfectly. At other times with the exact same scenario it did not. Same with refuelling after I refuelled myself, works sometimes, sometimes not. I‘d also say it generally works 4 out of 5 times. That‘s still better than without the mod :smilewink:
  13. Might it also be an issue that we are comparing here a piece of software (A-10C) which was developed a decade ago against a fairly recent and ongoing development? The A-10C was built with the available hardware and technology in mind that was around at the beginning of this decade (or even slightly earlier). Hardware has evolved a bit in those ten years so I would expect you tend to build more performance-demanding software nowadays.
  14. True...if we would just have submersible submarines in DCS...:music_whistling:
  15. The idea the OP was referring to is this: You have 3 droptanks and they are filled up. It would be wise to first consume the fuel from one tank exclusively (center tank) and drop that as soon as it is empty. That way you get rid of the drag as soon as possible. However, I believe many folks are under the impression that dropping/jettisoning an empty drop tank is part of normal procedures while I think it is not. Since drop tanks like everything else, especially on a boat are limited in supply, you normally don‘t punch them off once empty. I believe you really only do that in an emergency or when you are desperate enough in a dogfight where that extra drag might make give the other guy the edge.
  16. w I understand many server will prohibit loading AIM-54s on them just like many already prohibit using AIM-120s to have a level playfield. Otherwise, yeah, these guys are going to be pretty powerful at distance. Once in the merge it‘s a totally different game though.:smilewink:
  17. Same problem here.
  18. That is currently a known bug. Good news though is that it is supposed to be fixed in this weeks OB update on Wednesday.
  19. No. ATFLIR is not coming with the next OB update. See last few Hornet Mini-Updates.
  20. LOL, I noticed this discrepancy (?) too while listening to the episode this morning on my way to work.
  21. Perhaps you want to try and do a repair of your DCS installation?
  22. Thanks again! I will try out that mission and also compare the JTAC setup in that mission to mine.
  23. Thanks, backspace. Very interesting :) Wanted to try out the LMav yesterday but in my selfmade mission I didn‘t get the JTAC to lase the target for me. His 9-line read: „mark:no“ despite the fact that I set „Laser“ as the designation method in the ME and there were no errors indicating no L-o-S or out of range. Will habe to learn how to set up JTAC properly...
  24. Is that with the E-model or the „modded“ G-model of the AGM-65?

That is not what he said. Any real war is ugly and we all know that. The weapon is designed to destroy hardware, not people. If someone happens to sit within that „stuff“...well, than it probably is a combatant.
