Is it possible to detach cursor motion from head motion?
Quadg replied to Hippo's topic in Virtual Reality
+1 helicopters and NOE flight mean i don't have long enough to keep my head still to use buttons. i need to glance and flick. not stop look and concentrate... and still miss the button. -
the trigger has been fixed. i was strafing stuff all weekend.

in world war two birds its good technique to never fly in a straight line for more than 30 seconds. so the rift does improve this by making you have to turn the aircraft. to check six. and there is an advantage in this. dropping a wing and turning also opens up the view beneath you. a view the trackIR pilot completely misses because of bad technique. don't break your neck, turn the aircraft and check six. and check the deck too. its all part of the greater awareness granted by VR :)

i am having this issue too. red line for fire weapons. that is gone after a restart and i can assign buttons but they do nothing.

you need to practise flying straight and level :) try flying at a set height in a straight line at various speeds. ie get to a height where you are clear of terrain and fly in a straight line at 80mph with the goal to fly without changing speed or altering height. use collective to control height and cyclic pitch to control speed. use the air speed indicator for speed and vertical velocity indicator for height. balance them together. then try it at various speeds. like 60 and 100. this will teach you the feel for balancing the collective with pitch for different speeds. then you can use all this to just fit in with someone you are following. the above may sound a bit boring but it will get you to flying in formation quicker than actually flying in formation will :) its the best way to get to grips with speed in the huey. you probably want to practise your co ordinated turns too. ie turning without changing height or speed put in cyclic 30-45 degrees left or right. then push in pedal for turn direction to lower nose to horizon to maintain speed. then use collective to maintain height (check vertical velocity.) to end the turn, bring her level with the cyclic then bring the pedals back as required and then reduce collective to keep level . leave the pedal in a bit longer than the cyclic control to have the nose wobble less as you come out straight. good for gun runs. a bit of this and then you will find formation flying much easier. and landing and cruising. basically everything will be easier :)

amusingly DCS is now the only game on my system where i hear audio through the rift and my system speakers. been trying to get this working since i got the rift.. and no more manual switching so great feature which needs an option for those who don't need it.

clickable data has changed? maybe they are adding in the NS-430 in the not too distant future?

they will make cockpits to match the outside world, when they have finished finalising the outside world. why? because if they change the outside world lighting levels again, they will need to redo all the cockpits again. its by far the majority of the texture work. why i would leave them till last too. and they have been this way since 2.1-2.2 and the entry of DS. basically we have only got texture fixes to keep us flying. like those ka-50 buttons. we got a fix so you can tell whether they are on or off. we didn't get the final texture fix. but it gets closer every week. now they have got some performance back they can ruin it by adding in brand new textures :) ah progress :)

@hippo i get a much more stable frame rate with alt-enter. it stays above 45 fps most of the time. i notice when its not in full screen because i start getting this repeating judder where it falls to 40 every 30 seconds or so. so to me its obvious when its not in full screen. its also obvious that full screen has an effect. because VR below 45 is very noticeable. and alt-enter fixes it. you probably don't notice the flux as much because you stay above 45. but if you want to get closer to 90 more often. try it with alt-enter.
-
you need to set the specific cockpit in the KA-50 section for labels. but you also need to set the general language setting. the one near where it asks about metric or imperial for measurements. that one will change the abris. if set to English
-
alt-enter fixes the intermittent stutter every 20-30 seconds.. in fact i know i have forgotten to press it because i see that judder.

go into advanced system properties and change your page file size from windows controlled to the same size as your ram and try again. the auto controlled pagfile can be too small. and DCS can still crash. also in the game reduce the pre load distance to a small number. this will require less ram. and reduce loading times.

Falklands: An interesting case for the Gazelle

that part of the world is renowned for its weather. and the argentines invaded at the end of the southern hemisphere summer because they didn't think the British would face the southern ocean winter. wrong. so you should expect any flying to be in terrible weather. and helicopter operations to be somewhat difficult but necessary (British understatement for suicidal) there will be a constant pounding sea. zero visibility. snow blizzards and strong storm winds for 3 months. all in all i cant wait. we need a sea king! -
use the level auto pilot to keep her level while you are looking at the screen to target. especially if you have used stores. makes moving the target point around easier. because your nose is steady.

the sides are red vs blue and blue always wins.

do we have to check all the maps for random holes? or is it just this one :)

i have a button for rules of engagement. for each gunner. and a button for close door. for each. so four buttons on my throttle. 2x press of each ROE button sets them to free fire. and opens doors. (1x for return fire) 1x press of close door sets them to hold fire and shuts the door. i rarely change the burst length. because on long burst they shoot at everything and run out of ammo.

So, about all that dust effect from helicopters.....
Quadg replied to smallberries's topic in DCS Core Wish List
i like helicopters and wind. you fly them like sail boats. ie when you need to stop you turn into the wind.. and unlike with sailboats, if you miss time the turn. you don't ram into a jetty :) -
me i sweat like a pig and need a full fan blowing on me or i cant see anything. thank god this winter has been cold. although i have actually missed the fan.. it adds to the immersion of being outside.

yep i turned it off because of this

in your user profile there is a folder called saved games. at the same folder level as my documents. c:\users\yourusername\saved games it contains a dcs folder. put the skins in this folder with the same folder structure as the game folder and they will overwrite existing files and folders in the game folder on launch. it has to be a mirror of the game folder. to work. its the new way of installing mods etc. rather than directly messing with the game files. put missions you download here to. in the missions folder. it should leave the main files "pure" and keep the mods separate. and you wont have to reinstall mods after updating the game.. as it wont overwrite them.

I'm British and i have bought more Russian modules than i have western. mi-8, ka-50, l-39 and mig 21. v's huey, gazelle and a10c. so Russian modules make financial sense to me.. in fact the mi24 is my next purchase :)

Do I need 32GB of Memory now?
Quadg replied to joebloggs's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
@fragbum what is your RAM usage in DCS if you turn the page file off? that would tell us how much windows is shuffling to disk :)
