  1. i take it the other voters all fly world war 2 birds? or are fc3 fans voting?
  2. real maps can get game developers arrested on spying charges. bohemia interactive and a small Greek island that shall remain nameless. it was going to have a fictional name in the game.. but the developers still got arrested photographing military ports..
  3. sorry reflected, this is an old one.. its the same in the mi-8. you cant have door guns without the armament hard points being fitted. with the gunsight. at least the huey folds out the way. and it will take a foundational change to all modules just to fix it for these 2 helicopters. why ed has not changed it. even with all the complaints about it. i assume.
  4. does anyone else's rift go to standby occasionally when trying to start DCS 2.5? it does not happen every time i start. what happens is it turns on for the loading screen with the hangar so i can see the mig 29. but when it gets to the main menu the rift goes to standby. and i can hear the main menu music. if i take the rift off, the repeat on the 2d screen is still running and showing the rift moving etc. restarting the oculus service does not fix it. but rebooting does. it works fine straight after a reboot. anyway, it has only started with 2.5 and it only happens at the main menu. i don't run oculus home or the tray tool when playing dcs. i have updated my video drivers to the latest. and reinstalling oculus has not fixed it. my sensors and everything are okay. its strange that it only happens in this one specific place, and i can guarantee it happening if i leave my rig on for hours.
  5. they have done a good job at hiding the rotation as you look around horizontally. its much better than 1.5 so i can live with a bit of roll.
  6. aaahhh the rift cigarette break.... for us fools still smoking.. don't smoke kids, your rift fills up with smoke and your eyes water. probably great for simulating a cockpit fire though. with the rift you do get the loading screen with a progress bar, so i think this is on the Vive? its a screen at 2 fps though so not very "smooth"..
  7. we cant really mention starving children.. we spend our time and money simulating expensive death machines. that treat children as collateral damage. a pilot in a glass cockpit, should not throw stones :) its too hypocritical for me :)
  8. that was impressive for a complex first flight. the boosters landing together was sweet.
  9. you normally drop it as you begin your turn onto the taxi way. then your jet wash blasts it off the runway. instead of back down the runway and into the way of the next guy landing.
  10. i don't think the tray tool is working with the new oculus home. so turn ASW off manually. rctrl and num 1 i had to hit numlock also to get it to turn off.
  11. are you pressing alt-enter after you come back to dcs from your 2nd monitor? it may go to windowed mode.
  12. the funny thing is if you load and replay the track again it will probably work. but you need to reload the save not just hit replay.
  13. they do give love to the ka 50.. it wasn't so long ago that there was no engine EGT limits.. they got added as a complete surprise to bring it into line with the MI-8. about a year ago or so?
  14. blame Samsung for having a monopoly on DDR ram manufacture. they got stung by wholesalers a few years ago with low prices. and now they are getting payback by letting production dry up. they have promised to increase production later in the year.. about the time the wholesalers they are targeting go bust :) because no one should buy at these prices.
  15. its obvious, learn to start it :) put some study into the study sim. you get the best clickable cockpit in the game and then don't want to click any of the buttons? what's wrong with you? :) i instantly had to know what all those buttons did. in that glorious cockpit. before i flew it..
  16. you still get a judder when scripts run and triggers fire..
  17. which can be summed up as "stay off the grass"
  18. I'm getting used to no MSAA... yeah its not great, but being able to have everything else on high does kind of make up for it. I've been having a few "man this is beautiful" moments in VR.. its seems way better than no MSAA in NTTR and Normandy in 2.2. less shimmer. really only see the jaggies on electricity pylons. and some buildings. the new thin wires make them less of an issue. the actual landscape itself is pretty good. ie horizon merge. etc and being able to see tracers in VR is quite novel :) i could not see them in 1.5.8 which sucks when you are in a huey. so all in all I'm not as annoyed as i thought i was going to be.
  19. Thanks for this mission Reflected! i really enjoy it for just pottering about in the huey. it was the first mission i tried in 2.5 to die with a merged huey :) now to try the update.
  20. i had to turn the pagefile back on. had it turned off to save wear on the SSD.. because of OOM errors.
  21. cool a day early. Thanks ED! let the download marathon commence.
  22. whether the map is real or fictional, we will all put it to fictional use.... which means i don't care either way a post nuclear war map could be fun.. blown down forests, smashed cities and craters. think post nuclear war survival in helicopters and planes.. killing each other for each others beans.
  23. man that makes me miss 2.1.. the last time we could play without overexposed glare and washed out colours. and it ran better too.
  24. Quadg

    Can you do this?

that is a guy finding out how hard it is for a helicopter to pay for itself :) weather closing in and loads still to fly.. and he cant afford to stop :)
  25. if the plane is not fly by wire then the stick is placed in the centre of the airframe to make all the control runs the same length and to reduce complexity. for the controls to have the same weight they must be balanced. and that's a lot of wire to balance. the pilot is then placed where he can best reach them. so its normally between his legs. where he can get the most leverage on the very physical system. he has to actually move surfaces to fly.. so a centre stick is demanded by the controls and common sense. (KISS keep it simple stupid) look at the HE111 for a lovely complex system for moving the controls to the left. fly by wire.. the computer flies the plane so replace the stick with a computer interface. why the stick tends to be to the side. modern airbuses look like two side by side office cubes and not a cockpit :) the setup you have at home is irrelevant. :) too many abstraction layers :)
