Has anyone tried Nvidia 391.01 drivers with DCS 2.5 OpenBeta ?
Quadg replied to Ramstein's topic in General Bugs
the 390.xx were not great in VR.. headsets going blank. no mention of this in the release notes for 391 so ill give it a miss... -
Why have hundreds programmable buttons?
Quadg replied to Marcq's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
the keyboard is the ultimate button box. but nobody seems to like those :) -
Anything wrong with using HDD for DCS and gaming
Quadg replied to iVVChewy9141VVi's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
with the dcs memory leak you are going to need the page file during play. so a spinner will judder in normal game play. and it will get worse over time. so future bug proof your rig and get a SSD. -
what is the penetrator on a 8KOM? heat and an ounce of copper? so you destroyed the entire contents of a bunker with 2 ounces of copper penetrating. man i love the damage model in DCS :)

the maverick trick was for the A version hogs. they cant carry the litening pod so used a maverick as a poor mans litening pod and thermal sight.

Occulus rift image goes to black after 20-30min play.
Quadg replied to lucky-hendrix's topic in Virtual Reality
from what bignewy has said on other threads, it seems that there are a couple of interrelated memory bugs. and its taking some gymnastics to get round them. change the windows page file size from windows controlled, to the same size as your RAM. (16 gb) see if that helps till they fix it. -
weights over a 1000 seem fine to sling load in the huey. i thinks its that 300kg load in argo that cause all the problems.

the bunker is specifically designed to counter the role of an s-8 rocket. the s-8 is an unguided area effect weapon used on spread out soft targets in the open. (trucks and infantry, like in the training) bunkers are designed to protect soft targets from area effect weapons. by removing them from the open and making them very hard. to use an analogy, in rock paper scissors, the rock (bunker) will always beat your scissors (s-8 ). so use paper. the su-25 has several rockets designed for bunkers, several guided weapons designed for bunkers. and good old large dumb bombs which will do in a pinch. paper beats rock every time. with no effort.

i have a six core 4930k and i have had HT off for over 4 years. this morning i turned it back on because OBS is struggling to keep up with recording.. short answer, both dcs and obs recordings got smoother. so in my experience 6 cores is not enough for dcs and recording in VR anymore. I'm going to continue testing but it looks good. HT is staying on for now.

TrackIR not as smooth in 2.5 as 2.2 and 1.5.8
Quadg replied to Jacks's topic in Game Performance Bugs
that fixed my tracker judders, back in the day when i flew 2d. in game vsync on and it was a judder fest, even though the counter stayed smooth. try using adaptive v sync in the NVidia control panel. i got higher average frames and smoother trackir. -
the stick moves slow in this situation because you have no hydraulics. the same thing happens in the air when the hydraulics get shot off and it aint pretty what happens. it adds random delay to your control inputs. so your stick moves quick but the huey stick moves slower..

due to weather d day got moved quite a bit. it was initially scheduled for may. and they almost moved it again on the 6th. it was a summer of unusual storms in the channel. so senior officers would all know the plan, and everyone else knew the big one was coming. even the Germans. but the big gamble on the weather was all Eisenhower's. he had to decide on when to go based on a 24hr old weather forecast.. and in the end it was a close one. the tanks at bloody Omaha never made it ashore because of the weather. the dd tanks sank in the channel. and storms destroyed most of the mulberry harbours, before Cherbourg was taken. Antony Beevors book about d day, is excellent on this topic. i think they left the painting of d day markings until they knew they were going. but I'm not sure on that one.

Is it a bug or me? Huey training mission and campaign.
Quadg replied to Mad Jock's topic in User Created Missions General
the helicopters all spawning on the same pad was a bug introduced in 2.5 they fixed it in the last patch but i think someone needs to open this mission and save it. to fix the issue once and for all. -
i like the handy sick bucket beside it. you never know how a grunt is going to react to VR :)

i have had no issues with the altimeter. you turning it on with both switches? the one on the roof and the one on the device itself? I'm impressed with the new crew chief instructions. i liked them in the mi-8. its great that they are in the huey now. was this new with 2.5? makes up for no camera. and is more realistic.

Nice path finding
Quadg replied to Bl00dWolf's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
well that's one way to keep the bridge clear in case a train comes. the new tactical AI :) -
i think Greg was waiting to see if belsimtek changes the EGT model again. as no one thinks its final as it is. but we definitely need a workaround for the campaign as it is.

the fact that the GPU seems to be maxed at 100 and the CPU not would say to me your GPU is limiting you. now if your GPU was at 50%... and it looked like that. i would say CPU.

one screen for each eye looks like one screen to you. but it makes the world 3d. and the head tracking puts you right in the middle of the 3d world.

any AAA is most likely to get a kill when firing from ambush on an unsuspecting pilot. which in this day and age means you turn the radar off and leave it off until the rock and roll starts. and your first burst, and most likely to hit, will be on tracer only. AAA that has been found is ineffective as you point out. whether it uses tracer or not. because i dodge when i see the muzzle flash on known AAA positions. i don't wait for the tracer. SO you could say RADAR is as useless as Tracer, at this point. the problem is the way the AI uses AAA.

the main rotor seems to lack gyroscopic precision. its gyroscopic precision that allows us to cruise and turn smoothly in the other helicopters. and its the lack of gyroscopic precision that feels so wrong in the gazelle. a gyroscope wont fall over because i nudge it one way... try it with a spinning top. but the gazelle will 5 degrees nose down nudge and she will fall over

yes. you can copy and paste the server address from the description by highlighting it with the mouse and using ctrl- c to copy. so you don't have to type it into teamspeak.
