TrackIR - Stuttering under 120fps
Quadg replied to hughlb's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
the only time i had judder with track IR was when i used the in game Vsync. using adaptive vsync fixed it, option in NVidia control panel. -
Aircraft Request the English Electric Lightening
Quadg replied to Crowman's topic in DCS Core Wish List
i would be up for one! i live near binbrook and the air is still missing the sound of these noisy beasts. its just to damn quiet now. 20 years after they retired. and its funny.. the Eurofighters at the minute are being constantly scrambled to intercept Russian bears.. a job the lightening did better :) and probably cheaper. -
why should the stick be held backward during taxi?
Quadg replied to WildBillKelsoe's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
it also a matter of plumage :) a peacock struts with his tail feathers raised. so put the cock back in cockpit and flaunt your tail feathers. especially in multiplayer. -
hover taxi for the win! avoid that pesky mud. and too fragile landing gear. remove the wheels entirely. don't bother with fancy wings. get a big rotor that beats the air into submission and shows it who's boss. and you can even head out into the bush and go native, and forget that taxi ways even exist..

why should the stick be held backward during taxi?
Quadg replied to WildBillKelsoe's topic in DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk. IX
i think its about doing everything you can to keep her tail on the ground because of her massive prop. keep the tail pushing on the ground. especially when its being hit by prop wash. so yank back on the stick till you are half way down the runway and want the tail to come up. -
Improved frame rates with new Nvidia driver 388.43
Quadg replied to crowebar's topic in Virtual Reality
cool I will have to try the latest. I noticed instant judder when I went from 385.41 to 388.13 the mi-8 was terrible. rolling back to the previous driver which was 385 on my system fixed it. I did not try 388.31 I installed the windows fall edition yesterday and I instantly noticed the judders again. it had reset my driver settings and reinstalled the latest again (388.13) so I'm a bit fed up with playing with drivers. I see another thread reporting 388.41 as fixing these issues. -

Improved frame rates with new Nvidia driver 388.43

how is it in VR? I'm still on 385 because 388.13 gave me bad judder in VR. -
the huey runs cooler now. so it takes more collective to exceed the EGT limits than before. you get EGT spikes if you move the collective to quickly. so being a bit slower on the collective is a good thing. you can take off with full load without exceeding 625 now.
-
sit in the left seat and use the chin bubble. I love the left seat in VR. I don't like mirrors in VR :)
-
steam is telling me it updated steamVR recently. could that be the issue?
-
the huey seems to run a lot cooler now. I had got used to keeping an eye on the EGT anyway. but now she hardly even gets hot lifting off in a empty huey. and she used to get much hotter when lifting in a fully loaded gunship. now you can stay under 625 with guns rockets and door gunners. but she does seem slower, only cruising at 80 in the fully loaded huey. so it seems balanced. I don't think I'm going to be blowing any engines any time soon. with the fix to the sling load weight issue on load release. this patch is great!

this has been fixed at last! in the latest Open beta!

Steam Autumn/Holiday Sale, DCS World Modules -40%
Quadg replied to SkateZilla's topic in Community News
its just the stupidity of DRM.. causes the paying customers, the distributors and software owners, more problem, than it ever causes criminals.. ED are in a DRM tangle of their own making. and paying customers are being annoyed by it. the criminals are not. you need to read the small print in every module to avoid the tangle yourself. I'm a bit annoyed that I can get the f86f in the steam sale and use it in standalone, but I cant buy the museum relics campaign because of the DRM.. -
Blank Slate: Best Plane to Learn from Scratch in VR?
Quadg replied to Ryder35's topic in Virtual Reality
the spitfire is great in VR. you realise how small the cockpit really is. and I understand why it has the half door :) I feel like I would need it open to get my shoulders in. I once heard an American veteran, who flew both spitfires and American fighters. say " you climb into an American fighter, like the p51. but you put on the spitfire like a suit." and I finally get what he is going on about. the spitfire feels like a second skin. and with the ground crew having to strap you in, because there isn't enough room to move your elbows. its like being at the tailors... the p51 is nice and roomy :) the guy went to berlin and back in photo recon spitfires. -
Blank Slate: Best Plane to Learn from Scratch in VR?
Quadg replied to Ryder35's topic in Virtual Reality
as others have said. the helicopters use the advantages of VR the best. and suffer from the least disadvantage. if you want a plane. then go for the older ones. that require more from the pilot. then the spatial awareness given by VR is a bonus. so anything without a HUD or glass cockpit. ww2 birds are far easier to take off/land in VR. the mig 21 is glorious. the su27, A10c, ka 50 and f15c are kind of annoying. because you need to use the hud and mfd's and therefore run into some of VR's problems. poor image quality. so I have hardly flown the modern stuff since I got VR. and I haven't really missed it. most of the helicopter campaigns are in 1.5 rather than 2.1 but that's not a problem as 1.5 is better in VR. -
exactly. he is referring to the hog replacement. the all in one F 35

New Nvidia drivers update = warps, stutters and freezes on CV1?
Quadg replied to Buckeye's topic in Virtual Reality
385.41 but I would just stay away from 388.13. -
okay :) well the ball isn't the most accurate instrument in the cockpit :) why the guy mentions wings. you have to have the piper on the line and your wings level. if you have to dip a wing to keep the piper on the line then you are slipping in the direction of the raised wing. and that little slip wont show on the inaccurate ball :) so if you have the right wing dipped and the piper is not moving to the right of the line, then you are slipping to the left. press in right pedal until the piper starts moving to the right and level the wings to keep the piper on the line. level wings is why its called level bombing. you can do it in a dive or climb :)

I can get a much higher stable overclock with hyper threading off. and higher benchmark scores. and better heat overhead. and with DCS being 2 threads. you don't need the extra cores, you need the higher overclock. so turn hyperthreading off if you OC. because it gives you more headroom. which means smoother not faster. in general. less stutter rather than more frames a second. a bit like setting processor affinity. every little helps. I have 6 cores which is more than enough to stop windows interfering with DCS. I don't need 12. don't know whether it would be worth it with a quad core...

New Nvidia drivers update = warps, stutters and freezes on CV1?
Quadg replied to Buckeye's topic in Virtual Reality
rolling back to the driver from September has fixed the stutters for me. definitely an issue with this driver... my evga superclocked does not like it. and the mi-8 hates it. usually my rig stutters when my cooling gets dirty. but a quick clean out didn't fix it. -
I've upgraded from 2600K to 8700K did some performance tests...

modern cpu are designed for server farms first and desktops second. its like try to put the engine from a container ship, into a sports car... yes they are both oil burning engines but... -
in layman's terms he is saying you are not flying the plane straight. slip = not flying straight.. yawing left or right through the air. countered using the rudder. noticed using the ball on the ADI. remove slip using the pedals/ twist grip. centre the ball.... you need to fly straight to bomb straight. unfortunately the bomb sight only figure this out half way through. (that you have side slip on..) it expects you to fly straight too.. and gets perturbed when you don't. and throws a fit.
