  1. they also mounted them in AC 130. so use them to this day.
  2. the shell is a 2lb hunk of metal and explosive with the muzzle velocity similar to an M1 Garand. so yes it will mess up a harrier with one hit.
  3. it has cows eating vegetation :)
  4. helicopters don't have as big IR signature as jets. because the hot exhaust is directed into the rotor downwash and quickly dissipated. so IR missiles are easily spoofed by flares. and you have to get closer to get a lock. so cannon are your best bet because they are not worth a radar missile. as to shooting stuff on the ground, DCS has a dodgy blast damage model. so near hits tend not to be enough and only direct hits destroy stuff. rockets look pretty but are pretty useless against anything but trucks and infantry. so I normally use a gun where I should use rockets. or swap the load out for a bomb. as you have pretty much figured out for yourself :) to get good with the gun you need to fire from a stable platform. as you get better at flying the aircraft in trim, you get better at shooting. a combat turn onto a ground target with a burst of fire then continuing the turn is the best way to dodge ground fire. make it a curving dive onto target instead of a straight one. then the bad guy misses too. you have the advantage because he cant dodge.
  5. I found that when I put the game IPD to the IPD of my headset, I needed to move my head around less. in the gazelle I always had to back away from the sight with the default IPD. because it felt in my face. but with the correct IPD it suddenly feels okay and I don't move my head. I did not expect IPD to have that effect. because the aircraft felt the right size with the default IPD. so I thought default was close to what I needed. turns out it was not :) the cockpit is also easier to see. without zooming. in a way I cant explain. less blurry? closer? bigger? probably closer because im not moving my head back two clicks of the mouse wheel... yay rocket science :)
  6. I use my mouse in VR and don't really think about it. its to the left of my throttle and I use it with my left hand (im a righty) trying to hit buttons with a laser pointer touch controller felt more immersion breaking than the mouse. trying to use some buttons requires some weird arm positioning. but in the end its what you get used too that works. its not immersion breaking when you don't have to think about it. the horror aspects of VR are quite good. getting up close and personal with monsters is kinda nasty.. crashing for the first time does make you scream in terror. and will make certain people violently motion sick. large heights can reduce people to quivering tears. (I hurt my sides laughing at a friend freaking out at height) and sometimes you just cry in wonder. that all wears off, except my vertigo. like in real life, heights get me every time. and it does not matter that I know im standing in my den... so that friend got a good laugh at me in return.. my channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJ2yUnbJFMnfyCIJmQAnxSQ/videos but 2d youtube really does not do it justice :)
  7. I just record my flights in VR and post the good ones to youtube. and I don't worry if people complain about visual quality or head shake. if only the track system worked. then I would post tracks for other VR users to ride in like VR roller-coasters and not bother with you tube at all. but we all know the state of the track system..
  8. is the link I used to watch it on twitch today.
  9. I just watched the stream, as I was busy and could not join in. well flown everyone. term of the tournament is definitely "Stalin bus" for the MI-8 :) based on the stream I would give the victory to Red for greater control of the battlefield. both bullseye. but blue were coming back at the end. I will definitely make time to join in for the next one!
  10. the biggest performance hitters are pixel density, MSAA and view distance. so reducing those to the smallest you can live with will give you the best bang for your buck. don't worry about average. I worry about minimum. its all about staying at or above 45. for the best experience.
  11. from anti submarine warfare (ASW) to all wheel steering (AWS) try asynchronous spacewarp. and asynchronous timewarp. timewarp is the one you cant turn off. ASW locks the game engine to 45 fps and warps every other frame to make 90. timewarp makes adjustments to frames if the head is moved during render. so the frame is not dropped. this runs all the time and does not limit the engine. but it can be as jerky as a dropped frame to someone using the headset. ergo those having a jerky time with ASW off are having a problem with ATW. and need to move their heads less.
  12. yep the first thing I did was go on to check the mi-8 instant action for PG.. none showing..
  13. most of the latency is in the VR services. as sniper mentioned. we don't need faster GPU we need hardware to do the job of the VR services. OVR, SteamVR and WMR. this is where all the CPU overhead and poor latency in the system is. in the same way GPU started doing "physics" we need a card to start doing VR.. right now its being done by software using the main CPU. and yes its slow. its why you get double the frame rate if you run it in 2d. no VR service involved. we just have to wait until a VR standard percolates out of the mix... its not really a GPU or CPU problem. VR just needs a hardware home. nvidia 3dvision gave way better 3d performance than VR because it was hardware based.. if only Nvidia did a VR headset but they got really burned by 3d vision.
  14. here is me doing some take-off, landing and shooting practise. in a reasonably heavy huey. (mini guns and m60 door gunners, half a tank of gas. 15-20c air temp. with a good head wind.) using an interesting controls indicator :) 10 minutes of landing and 10 minutes of shooting In the same helicopter. if you learn the belsimtek limits then the model flies fine. you just have to take full advantage of ground effect. and even better. when belsimtek gives us more power. you will have the skill to take proper advantage of it. the mission is by reflected, called huey playground. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=178909 great for muscle memory flights. because you can practise what you feel like practising. i.e. scales when learning guitar.. edit: I need to use external view... it also has 7 rockets a side so its a full gunship config. not just m60 and minis on the front. so heavier than I thought.. should have opened the door and leaned out to check
  15. Proper preparation prevents piss-poor performance... that will fix your problem. learn the manual so you don't need it in the cockpit.. or use a PDF viewer to reinforce bad habits :)
  16. does it have a compressor or is it like the mig21 and uses stored pressure in bottles? if you forgot to put it in neutral do you run out of air pressure in the pneumatic system? always fun landing with no brakes and no drag chute. because you forgot to put it back in neutral.
  17. this needs a transport objective. have an LZ at each of the ground force zones for dropping off internal box loads and sling loads for bonus points. with internal boxes probably being the most dangerous as you have to land to drop them off. then the hueys and mi-8 can transport while the ka 50 and gazelle try to kill each other in the bushes. or snipe from long range. and after a transport has unloaded he can always have fun with the door gunners. set the air temp low so the huey has a chance. and put in some wind. so hovering gazelle and ka50 cant snipe so easily. then I might consider flying a transport :) I can see why the gunship pilots have jumped in though :) the 8 KA50 are going to have a bad effect on blue ground forces with 96 vikhirs :) why we need a few landing transports to distract them :)
  18. the way the sim handles the idle stop is a bit awkward. so you are better off setting the idle stop before you start the starter and not at 15% the idle stop stops you from putting the throttle to zero and turning off the engine in flight. I think the real start position is slightly lower than the idle stop position. that is set with the idle stop button. but we don't need to worry about that in the sim. just set the idle stop and start the engine. I think you would get a hot start using idle in a real Huey?
  19. DCS world has a president Tromb, not president Trump. if you go by the NTTR map... that isn't "fiction" is it? oh the horror...
  20. next time you drive your car and stop at some lights pay attention to your stomach. its that final lurch of the stomach that tells you, you have stopped. and without that lurch it really effects you :) the first time I came to a stop in a driving sim I thought my face was going to hit the steering wheel. because my body thought it was still moving because of no lurch :) and my eyes were telling me the car has stopped. so if the car has stopped and I am still moving then this is going to hurt... its quite discombobulating. until you get used to it.
  21. you need to uninstall mods during updates. which is why most people use a mod manager. to make it painless... after an update of the game you may need to wait for an update in the mod before reinstalling it. depending on what has changed.
  22. it not the radiation that is toxic in the uranium... its the uranium. heavy metal poisoning. plutonium is even worse. its highly toxic before you factor in radiation.
  23. ignore the AI... they do have super huey's compared to yours. because they use a simpler flight model. never try to climb with an ai huey. you will lose and blow your engine. just keep up with them horizontally. don't worry if they get above or below you.
  24. going on the mask size settings for the VR shader mod, I would say the rift has the largest FOV because it needs the largest mask size. based on what everyone is reporting. the odyssey is larger than the vive.
  25. nice vid that one. I assume this is the same 25mm round that the bushmaster in the Bradley was designed around. :) can we get the modern depleted uranium APFSDS rounds in the harrier? or is that army only?
