  1. I saw that thread and tried to hastily muddle through it. I'm about to have a four day vacation, on my todo list is finalising thee case swap and finetuning everything (along with hopefully visiting the OKC air museum and seeing a B-52 up close) Thanks for the offer! If I have any issues I may take you up on it.
  2. Stuff like that can happen with SonicWave and some Asus utilities, too. That was when I learned to run a light system. If it isn't relevant to the task at hand, I don't let it run. People LOVE forcing a bunch of autoloading selfupdating random crap. Yesterday, I finally figured out which file was causing ''CyberLink Power Director'' crap to run all the time. I thought the file was a Windows function and never terminated it @@ Discovered the true purpose by chance.
  3. Honestly, I'm surprised that never happened to me. I've dropped my glass panel a couple times and it didn't shatter or chip.
  4. Well, figured if I'm gonna have to rebuild might as well go all the way. I'm returning the cooler and case fans and getting one that comes with all the fans. So I chose the Kedier C570. Will have a new 240mm AIO to eliminate the clearance issues I had with the Alseye, and white braided cable extensions for the PSU so I won't have that ugly daisy chain stuff hanging down.
  5. I like the hinged panels! Yeah, I've already decided I need to replace the case, and I've already noted I can buy multiple cases with all the fans preinstalled, and if I'm making these changes I might as well get rid of the cooler (with the evidently useless thermal readout) which will let me put my M2 heatsink back on (which wouldn't clear this cooler). Goddammit. This was supposed to be a budget build reusing as much stuff as possible and now I'm here...
  6. I'm intending to get a new case altogether mostly trying to decide which one. I have two more fans from the set I purchased so I'm aiming for three intake and three exhaust. In testing and gameplay, the CPU seems to be ok for the most part. In fact, that temperature display is clearly decorative as it was earlier reading 90+ when the ACTUAL CPU temp was 45... so wherever it's getting it's number is bogus. I'm going to undervolt it, soon as I figure out how to actually do that correctly, as I botched my first attempt. It's a single, large tower with dual 1700rpm fans in a push pull config. It's basically forcefeeding that rearmost case fan. They're push/pull fans forcefeeding the rearmost case fan. Appreciate the feedback guys. I'm as mentioned earlier, I'll be replacing the case shortly and increasing the number of fans, as the temps are higher than expected. CPU seems to be fine outside stress testing, but GPU is definitely running hot. I've only had a few hours to mess with it, so I'll be getting after it more in the near future.
  7. Yep, Brave user here, too. Put it on all PCs and phones. Blocks 100% of ads, including on YouTube. Extremely useful for limited bandwidth/speed users. It is Chromium based, but does not use their API for ad block functions, so the Google bs later this year does not affect them.
  8. It's an exhaust. Intake at the front. Exhaust at the rear/top. So yes, it's "doing something". It's not a mesh front, but there are filtered two inch slats at the top and bottom. I had one for years. I don't want to use it anymore. It can mount a 280mm radiator at the front (technically still can have it in there, I removed it because don't want it). It would indeed be a pain in the ass, but probably only about $150 is you were trying to budget it. If paired with the correct fans (high static pressure) and installed correctly, it can help with extreme overclocking. However, a lot of the "gain" people think they see is a result of the room temperature liquid taking time to warm up (which takes longer the larger the reservoir). It depends on specifics of what you're doing and how it's set up. I don't want to use a radiator anymore, personal preference, and am not overclocking (going to play with undervolting a bit more later in fact). That aside, as long as it's stable and not damaging itself, it's largely moot. 50 or 75, as long as it's within spec it doesn't matter at the end of the day.
  9. I'll probably change to a P400 or something similar (only about 3 inches longer/taller) that has mounting points for two more fans in the front and top (total of 6) Yeah, I've heard about that. Actually attempted it earlier, but apparently did it wrong, I lost about 20% somehow. Reset it after that and will try to fix it later. Yeah, it's a new board so everything is different from the one I'm used to (both my last were Asus RoG) so still experimenting. For now it's only about a 50mhz difference or so, so close enough.
  10. I finally got around to testing DCS in VR. It has taken eight years (I first had a Oculus DK2) but I am officially satisfied with the results. This is what we always imagined when talking about VR flight.
  11. I actually disconnected the case RGB cable cause I wasn't using it. Also apparently disconnected the case USB ports, so gonna be going back in for that later. Weird it would do that. I've had it for several years now. Originally got as a replacement for a massive full tower that I absolutely didn't need, the P300 had exactly the amount of room necessary for the components I had. And I like the clean, minimalistic look. Yep. Runs hot, 75-80 under heavy loads using 3dmark benchmarks. Probably have to look into that some more later. -edit You wanna know the weirdest part of this upgrade? I forgot to uninstall any drivers or anything, and it booted up anyway, just with a few error messages from some Asus utilities that weren't working anymore. I remember the 90s that wouldn't fly! The only hitch I've had so far is with the RAM, and I think that miiight be CPU support related. It won't boot at 3600 but will at 3466 or something. It's weird, and it's ''close enough'' so I don't care. Other than that, I had some clearance issues with that CPU cooler overhanging the primary M2 (I had to ditch the exotic cooler) and the first RAM slot (which fortunately I'm not using anyway).
  12. I did not know that, interesting

  14. I think one of them was a bait and switch scam. I've had the same thing happen several times now under nearly identical circumstances. One was arrows, now this stick, both went exactly the same way. Browsing products, notice one ''good buy'' item on sale, but it's not immediately available. Order, prepared to wait. Weeks then month+ go by, my order is never filled, but the item is now in stock (in one case even Prime ready) yet my order is never filled... also, the price has increased, substantially. I cancel or in some cases it's canceled FOR ME. If it was a one off, I'd think it was a fluke, but multiple times? I think it's *insert expletive of choice* trying to bait purchases at lower prices, then they ''lose'' your order and hope you'll buy it again at the increased price. The stick went from $130 to $170, before it was arrows $50 raised to $60. I'm 99% certain it's a scam.
  15. Well, in a bizarre twist, I have ended up with exactly zero sticks. Somehow, both ended up lost in transit. I don't know what the odds of that were... higher than you would expect, apparently. But... anyway... gonna try again, I suppose. Or something.
  16. Not really relevant, tbh. That mostly means it doesn't have the cables hardwired into it. As long as you have enough of the required power cables free to supply the GPU what it needs, that's the part that matters. In my own situation, having a 750w and a 3090, I debated a bit, and decided while the 750 should TECHNICALLY provide enough, it doesn't leave any headroom for overclocking and could be exceeded by boost, so I put a 1000w in instead (that I happened to have free access to). In your case, you've got a 910, so that's pretty damn close. Usually you won't ever need 850+ unless you're doing multiple GPUs or something really exotic clockwise. To just ''have a GPU and it work stock'' 900w should be sufficient.
  17. Many already do. ''How'' you launch the game isn't the matter at hand. You cna easily do that a number of ways, whether in VR or not and start it in whichever mode you wish. That's nothing new. The issue is having to reboot the game to switch between modes, and rebooting the game whenever you make even minor graphic setting changes. Hell, even should be able to download and add modules without having to reboot the game, if you wanna get right to it. There's too much bootin' goin' on across the board. It's mostly a hallmark of the ancient origins of the game engine.
  18. It's practically the new Crysis
  19. While we're at, not rebooting the game every time you make a setting change would be nice, too.
  20. From one gen to the next is usually a modest improvement in the first place. It's not like you're missing lazer sharks or something. You are missing a modest performance increase (possibly, not always a certainty either) and premium prices.
  21. Depends on what you've got already. I'm upgrading from a 6700k. I don't intend to go to the first gen of a whole new architechure with the associated teething that usually entails. If you're doing it ''in a few months'' and money isn't an object, it may be advisable to do the next gen as everything is coming out right now. If you're more bargain oriented and coming from obsolete gear, as I currently am, and are interested in VR with a high end GPU, I think this thread is conclusive that the x3d makes a substantial difference. So, tldr version VR? High end GPU (3080ti+)? Currently obsolete? If the answer to all three questions is yes, then the 5800x3d is for you. If the answer to any of them is no, then it is not ''for you''.
  22. Based on the other thread, that seems to be the case only in specific usages. But in general, yeah, it seems they would be more greatly benefited by expanding the average cache, alongside whatever else they do.
  23. The same teething issues that occur with the first generation of literally every new product line since the dawn of time. Being ''first'' always has a cost.
  24. You know, reading this thread, it occurs to me... If DCS hold up is draw calls, and this is the main thing Vulkan etc improves on, this 5800x3d is probably indicative of the kind of improvement we can expect. In some scenarios, nothing. In other scenarios 25-30%. Very case specific. Regardless, who knows when that will happen, so I went ahead and returned the 5800x I had and ordered a 5800x3d instead I won't be upgrading again for at least 5-6 years, so might as well go for gold now.
