The Mb-339 has been multicrew for a while, too, afaik, before becoming official, so if people REALLY just needed a ''freebie'' that's been an option a loooong time. This is the part people keep imaginatively disregarding. I've already been there and done that with multiple people, BUYING the modules FOR them, if they'll just TRY it (including L-39, Yak-52, Gazelle, Combined Arms, etc) Wanna guess how much difference it made? There's exactly TWO categories of people, those who are willing to learn and those who aren't. That simple, and it always will be. No amount of sugar coating or handholding is going to change that ultimately. For example, stuff like the ''fancy fly it for you/workarounds'' suggested in the wishlist make things ''easier''... for people who are already here, who ALREADY made a major time committment and learned some of the basics, at least, but it's going to do exactly zip for retention or attracting noobs. People aren't ''leaving'' or ''not coming'' because they can't AAR. They leave cause they sit down, after about five minutes determine ''this is going to be more complicated than CoD 16'' and bail. As passionate and determined as much of this community is, and as much as we'd love to share it with others, the unfortunate reality is just that 99% of people don't have the patience or interest in aviation to spend the time and effort required to even turn the damn plane on, much less ''learn to fly'' it.

Presumably the same as everyone else's? Not sure what you mean. In particular I had in the mind the one where pushing the wrong button on the Harrier's MFD caused a CTD, which can safely be placed in the ''severe category''. I'm sure ''bugs'' still exist in all RazBam's modules, as is true of all the modules in the game, and always will be, but the worst offenders have been resolved. Some features are still be being added, also, but the most important things have all been addressed. It's ''rivet counting'' at this point, and has been for a while now. I'm sure he'll lose a lot of sleep We're not exactly plumbing the depths of Moria here

@Japo32 You're writing fine, don't worry! I didn't intend any particularly harsh criticism. It is annoyingly common for people to make ''I want more free stuff'' threads I understand that's not exactly what you were saying. I do kind of like the idea of a buddy key. That might be worth exploring/considering. Like a temporary key that can be loaned out for backseating. Especially for the dedicated trainers, it's worth it. Of course, these days, they're doing free flights semi-frequently, too, which kind of solves the issue, as well. Just requires waiting for the freeflight window then snagging your friend for a ride along.

I have all of em, and last I flew them they all worked, were combat capable, fun to fly, and look great inside and out and the worst bugs were resolved a loooong time ago. The majority of people do not walk around looking for opportunities to display their righteous indignation months/years after the fact.

I did not know the F-15 and MiG-23 were that far along. Awesome! I personally am throwing my hat in for Summer 2022 for those two to hit EA.

No, that's cool. It is an extremely interesting and historic aircraft, and yes they worked wonders getting it into production at all and keeping as many of them going as long as they did. I just eye roll hard when people start raving about ''DER SUPER GERMAN TECHNOLOGY'' The V-2 was pretty damn impressive, and afaik they were the first to start messing with supersonic stuff on any significant level, but a lot of the ''legends'' about German technology are thinly veiled excuses for how they managed to spank the French and Soviets so hard. ''I mean sure, we were poorly organised, using outdated tactics, and only had radios for every 1,000th man, but the real tipping point was all that radical new technology they had, like Panzer IIs! We just didn't see 'em coming! Panzers, man, just say the word. Panzer. That's how far ahead they were, practically lasers. And don't get me started on their coal powered trucks that could ALSO burn wood!''

Should I be worried about the pilots in the Hind
Mars Exulte replied to Rogue Trooper's topic in DCS: Mi-24P Hind
That's not quite the same thing It also necessitates assigning a HOTAS button somewhere to ''disappearing my annoying body'' instead of something more useful -
It was the first deployed to combat to a significant extent, but was hardly as remarkable as it is often exalted as, especially considering that whole ''bursting into flames'' thing. The Meteor started flying in '43 if I remember right, but was not deployed to combat zones. The P-80 was delayed to late war after an accident but was capable enough to serve for another 10 years or so, the 262's ''superiority'' is debatable at best (the wing sweep was for CoG, and had no transonic value). The Russians were bringing up the rear, but had their own fighters around the same time. In fact, ALL the major powers had long running jet fighter programs, and began deploying them within just a couple years of each other all around the same time. They weren't all reliant on magic Nazi uberwaffenwundardoctors to come out of the stone age @@

Regarding multicrew, the kind of stuff we've got here isn't as simple as to just ''jump right in'' like a tail gunner or something. Copilots, RIOs, heli gunners, there's quite a lot of switchology involved in those positions, you're not going to have hordes of randos helpfully jumping in to take a position. Also, ''not owning'' an aircraft also means you don't have the cockpit or any related files for its systems or simulation, meaning at a minimum you have to download several gigabytes of data ahead of time. As for the maps, I understand why they charge for them. They're creating a lot of new technology for it (much of which is itself being distributed for free). The maps are not autogenerated splurg either, they have a fair amount of time invested creating assets and designing the environment. This is a niche, low income environment. ED isn't doing anything that very nearly EVERY OTHER SIM is also doing for all the exact same reasons. All this ''gib free stuffz'' nonsense really irritates me. This is a business, not a charity, and there's a lot more effort put into the products here than in most this other stuff. They earn their wages. Pay them. If somebody can't or won't buy a certain thing, too bad for them. This isn't Pokemon, you don't need to ''buy them all''.
-
262 is being made by ED around here somewhere. It's been a slow developing project for years. Last I heard, I think they said they had finally.collected all the documents they needed to actually start building it, but that was a year or so ago. Afaik Hellcat hasn't been mentioned by anybody yet, but we've got the P-47 and F-4U, so the Hellcat should be a comparatively easy addition. They all three use the same engine, so there's at least two devs now with a working twin wasp radial they can use as a baseline. Be a lot of work still as the planes are still very different, but at least some of the engine code should be reusable, I'd think.

Add "reverse gear" option for ground units in mission editor
Mars Exulte replied to Mad_Shell's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I think the issue is trying to emulate complex intelligent behavior through hamfisted scripting and micromanaging. Much more practical to ask for AI in general, which ground units almost entirely lack.- 1 reply

Should I be worried about the pilots in the Hind
Mars Exulte replied to Rogue Trooper's topic in DCS: Mi-24P Hind
Unless you're in a similar position, it's not really that immersive, nothing matches up. The whole appeal is it ''feels like it's you'', unless it's not remotely similar to what you're doing in which case it's just a distraction. I immediately notice any ''desync'', like me using an extended center stick while the F-16 is a little one on the right. In general the body is neat for joyriding, but in actual usage it has to be turned off anyway. Startup? It's definitely blocking switches. In combat? Probably blocking switches. Landing? Probably blocking switches. In real life you can move your arms and legs out of the way. In the game you can't and they are 100% in the way. Yes, they add a small amount of ''fun'' especially as part of a VR demonstration. But unless it's a joyride, I would say safely 99% of people turn it off before they get to business to avoid any time wasted when it invariably... gets in the way. To be clear, I am generally supportive of it being there as an option, but it's also frivolous, impractical, and kind of a waste of resources when it really boils down to it. -
#1 Most screenshots are staged to look as nice as possible. This includes things like setting your graphic stuff all the way up. If you are just taking a picture, 10fps doesn't matter. The area, setting, and lighting can all be carefully manipulated for maximum effect. #2 Modded graphics are a thing, including modded shaders. I use Mustang's textures as a literal ''do not play without'' and these days I've added Taz's mods to that list, too. A lot of people use ReShade, also, although imo it's no longer necessary. I did back in 1.5 days. #3 Some maps are inherently more beautiful than others. They were not all made at the same time and some incorporate better technology and more details than others. If all you've played is Caucasus, you're missing 80% of the game's potential.

There's some really nice RAF Harrier skins for download in the DCS user files. I don't THINK it has any by default

Singleplayer/multiplayer has absolutely nothing to do with forum usage... I'm myself a ''singleplayer'' and I'm sure there's tons of others. This is such a dumb thing to even say @@ Like... singleplayer games don't have or use forums? Like I said ''results don't align with my worldview, therefore I shall manufacture an excuse for how I'm still not wrong'' @@

I could use some SIM Cockpit advice
Mars Exulte replied to wraith76's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I use a modified PlaySeat Flightseat. They're about $500 last I looked, and have attachments for both sides and the center (no pedal or monitor mounts, though). I welded my own platform on the front for my stick to bolt to, but otherwise, you can adjust the sides forward/backward and height, the center mount can be lowered for a stick or raised for a steering wheel (no longer an option on mine). -
Budget inverse PC case, anyone?
Mars Exulte replied to Dragon1-1's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I don't think I've ever seen one designed to be mounted that way. Have you considered getting one of those ''workbench'' style setups that have everything facing upwards? -
Acer predator and oculus rift s.
Mars Exulte replied to huggy98's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Offhand, I would say it will probably run a Rift S to a playable extent, albeit with the same kind of compromises everyone else is making. How acceptable it will be to you to play on lower settings/shadows is up to you. -
No, what we have here is representative of people who care enough about the game to be active on the forums. It is otherwise not specifically biased toward any particular group or subset. The ''oh it's only fractions of a percent'' is not how polls work, and people who claim otherwise are invariably bitching cause they didn't like the result. Polls are ALWAYS ''fractional'', because it's not remotely feasible to ask everybody what they think about a certain policy or candidate or whatever. Several hundred people indicates a poll that ran long enough and drew enough attention to actually be noticed, and (probably) didn't have the kind of bs questions/options that make a poll useless. ''The vocal few'' thing works both ways, and STILL indicates a certain result even if within a smaller subset. ''But I don't like the results! Their vocal few outnumbers my vocal few! It's not possible that means what it looks like it means, because clearly I'm always right!!!'' That... isn't relevant to the accuracy of a poll's sampling.
-
For statistical purposes, a general sampling of a few hundred people is likely to be accurate plus or minus a couple points. The smallish sample size is more indicative of utter indifference than anything else.
-
I like a good fight as much as the next man, but the same 3-4 people keep having the same conversation over and over, and this is like the fifth or sixth thread. Don't you guys have anything better to do? Ohhhhhhhh.... nevermind. Carry on.

I was gonna say, I thought they planned on adding Cyprus

Yeah, the computer flying the plane for us is definitely highly instructive. It's like, all the advantages of watching a youtube video, minus the informative voiceover, human interaction, and awkard typing of phrases into search bars.
-
Yeah, silly us, expecting people to learn n' stuff. Totally unreasonable and illogical in this day n' age.

Truly, thou wert a prophet, I did not fully appreciate this at the time.
