it is my understanding that the closer the 1% and 0.2% numbers are to the Average FPS numbers, the better (least amount of stuttering). if i am correct, doesnt that result look unfavorable?
-
I admit i dont know alot right now about overclocking AMD but in a recent overclocking tutorial on how to, they were pretty strict about ram being set at no more than 6200.
-
I think we should move on until @72Stu responds otherwise.

OH BOY! That is a whole different topic! I was trying to do some research on Win 10 vs Win 11 for DCS yesterday, and for the most part, the consensus was to basically stick with Windows 10 for now.. And if going to Windows 11, do a fresh install instead of an upgrade. BUT, there was no mention about DDR5 memory use, so this is indeed an interesting point. I didnt even think that it mattered, so why?
-
@okletsgoThanks for the clarification
-
@okletsgoOn a 7800X3D? I dont see your system specs?
-
Im not familiar with your 5900X, but that just doesnt seem right to me? (pagefile issue?) I never go really near maxing out my 32 gig ram on this older build, and all I do is multiplayer. But anywho, Im wondering how the 9800X3D is doing in DCS for Ram for dugite57's new build
-
Yes, if you look at my post above, that is 1 of the 2 boards I have highlighted in Red as 1st pick, and that is the one I am focusing on unless I find out otherwise I should be looking at something else. @dugite57Nice build sir! I cant use that motherboard because of the lack of audio accommodations on the rear I/O. I see you went with the 64gig of ram! I would be VERY interested to know how much of that ram is being used in DCS. Im on a quest to find out if 64gig is actually going to be a factor over 32gig?
-
That board only has (6) USB-A ports on the rear panel, I need at least (8)
-
Speaking of RAM, I just ordered the AMD 7800X3D, looking for gaming motherboard, narrowed it down to 2 so far based on my eye bleeding research. Option 1=ASUS ROG Strix B650E-F Gaming WiFi AM5 Option 2=MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk (Dont care about Gen 5 support and want full audio suite on rear panel and plenty of USB ports there as well) These boards need DDR5 Ram as I understand it. That being the case, do I really need more than 32gig for DCS? I wouldnt mind putting 64 gig in, but prices are a bit too high for wasting it. If it is highly recommended, then I will do so. Thoughts? Thanks,

@motoadve I purchased on Newegg Regarding MOBO: I posted this up over at AnandTech: https://forums.anandtech.com/threads/pciex16-drops-to-x-8-when-m2-ssd-is-installed.2611401/ After extensive reading, I decided to go with the AMD 7800X3D (Purchased yesterday). Main reason why I went with AMD 7800X3D vs Intel Core i9-13900K. Heat, Watts & Gaming performance comparisons. I also have no need to concern myself with Gen 5 concerns for the near future based on most of what I have read so far. I cant count how many videos I have watched along with reading articles. I appreciate the knowledgeable feedback I have received here and will continue to post up with questions. Now the next journey begins. Selection of motherboard, then its RAM. By the way, I found what I believe to be the best informative video regarding AMD MOBO selections. This really cleared up alot of confusion for me. So far my list for MOBOs are as follows, the ones with strike through's have been omitted due to some lack of features, such as lack of full audio suite on back Panel and small amount of Rear USB ports or cost.

Well,, ,Im committed now! Just ordered and it will be here tomorrow. 1st part of new build, now just gotta research best gaming MOBO and 64 gig (2 sticks) of Ram. null
-
Thats assuming you get the option to buy before they sell out. Good luck to all of us.
-
I dont think we will really know the answer to that until the DCS simmer's provide feedback?
-
Thats a great question, I forgot to ask myself.

@BitMasterYes sir! I am aware of the heat matter with Intel, and that is probably the most important thing that is nudging me more towards AMD. There is not a day that goes by that I am not reading up on this stuff. Fortunately, I have time before I am ready to start buying parts. But one of the things I have been reading up on in the last 2 days (That I had no real idea about) was these 1% & .01% benchmark results. And unless I am wrong, my browsing of this matter leads me to believe that the disparity matters most with VR. I'm not into VR yet, but its on my radar. Bottom line, which CPU is best for DCS , but since I have the option to go either way with a new build, I just want to make the best, long term choice. Should i even care to focus on the potential 1% differences? Who knows? Im sure its going to take awhile before any DCS Simmers get their hands on a 7800X3D, and do some testing and post up the results. @some1 Thanks for the comment, perhaps I made an incorrect assumption on those Benchmarks posted? I presumed that those folks were provided with those AMD CPUs prior to public launch for evaluation etc?

There are some comparison tests already posted up on UTube that compare the 7800X3D to the I9-13900K (Im trying to decide between the 2) and although the FPS on the 7800X3D are higher, I see the 1% numbers for the 13900K much more favorable by my interpretation?

@BitMaster thanks for the response. I was concerned while doing reviews that there were some cons mentioned related to 4k performance. -
New Build SSD M.2 Gen 4 Confusion
Fakum replied to Fakum's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
@72StuThanks for the feedback. I have read many, many reviews. Whats lacking in them is good feedback on 4k performance for gaming. Thats one of the main reasons why I posted in here and specified (Above) "best performance gaming for DCS at 4k" -
New Build SSD M.2 Gen 4 Confusion
Fakum replied to Fakum's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks for the clarification on the 990, and the other tips as well. I got an alert this morning about thise SSD being on sale today for one day and I got real anxious about making sure I didnt miss the boat on getting these before they sell out or mis the deadline. I have been going at it hard with all the reading,,,, then I decided to do an inquiry about RAM prices as I was curious to find out if the expectation was that they price would rise, stay flat or drop. I was surprised to see that most reputable publishers basically stated that RAM prices have been dropping since January, and they can be expected to drop more over the next 2-3 months. Seems to me that since Im not really going to start buying parts for a couple months (because Im still researching what to get for either AMD or Intel) anyway, i think I should wait and perhaps get an even better price on whatever I choose. -
New Build SSD M.2 Gen 4 Confusion
Fakum replied to Fakum's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
@BitMasterThanks for the info on the encryption, that frees up the options. Prices today on Amazon are: $154.99 SK hynix Platinum P41 2TB PCIe NVMe Gen4 M.2 ( I think this price is only for today as I read on Slickdeals?) $149.99 WD_BLACK 2TB SN850X $159.00 SAMSUNG 980 PRO SSD 2TB PCIe NVMe Gen 4 Gaming M.2 I thought there was/are issues with the Samsungs? Or is that just the 990? Prices being basically the same, you would pick the Samsung? Im just curious because I have been reading so many reviews for top SSD’s for gaming, and most of the time it the SK hynix Platinum P41 & WD_BLACK 2TB SN850X are in the top 2 and the Samsung 990 somewhere at the top as well occasionally. I have not seen the Samsung 980 come up anywhere that I can recall. Id be very interested in learning why though. Thanks, -
I’m putting a parts list together for a new build and Im looking at options for a single, 2TB SSD M.2 Gen 4. I thought I had a few good ones picked out, then I read further and found out they have different features like with or without encryption? I have no idea what the impact is for gaming. This build is primarily for best performance gaming for DCS at 4k. What would be the best M2.s SSD at 2 TB? Here is what was on my initial hit list, and I was just about to pull the trigger on SK hynix Platinum P41 2TB PCIe NVMe Gen4 M.2 2280 Option: WD_BLACK 2TB SN850X NVMe Internal Gaming SSD Solid State Drive - Gen4 PCIe, M.2 2280 Option: Kingston FURY Renegade 2TB PCIe Gen 4.0 NVMe M.2

Thanks very much appreciate the help sir!

@BitMasterThanks for the tips, I will go look at that stuff. By the way, Im not doing an open loop system (not interested in the anxiety or maintenance), the gpu is water cooled already with its own RAD, and I would get a ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 420 (or similar) for the GPU. The tower I found that would accommodate a top and side RAD I picked is Corsair 7000D AIRFLOW
