  1. @motoadve I purchased on Newegg Regarding MOBO: I posted this up over at AnandTech: https://forums.anandtech.com/threads/pciex16-drops-to-x-8-when-m2-ssd-is-installed.2611401/ After extensive reading, I decided to go with the AMD 7800X3D (Purchased yesterday). Main reason why I went with AMD 7800X3D vs Intel Core i9-13900K. Heat, Watts & Gaming performance comparisons. I also have no need to concern myself with Gen 5 concerns for the near future based on most of what I have read so far. I cant count how many videos I have watched along with reading articles. I appreciate the knowledgeable feedback I have received here and will continue to post up with questions. Now the next journey begins. Selection of motherboard, then its RAM. By the way, I found what I believe to be the best informative video regarding AMD MOBO selections. This really cleared up alot of confusion for me. So far my list for MOBOs are as follows, the ones with strike through's have been omitted due to some lack of features, such as lack of full audio suite on back Panel and small amount of Rear USB ports or cost.
  2. Well,, ,Im committed now! Just ordered and it will be here tomorrow. 1st part of new build, now just gotta research best gaming MOBO and 64 gig (2 sticks) of Ram. null
  3. Thats assuming you get the option to buy before they sell out. Good luck to all of us.
  4. I dont think we will really know the answer to that until the DCS simmer's provide feedback?
  5. Thats a great question, I forgot to ask myself.
  6. @BitMasterYes sir! I am aware of the heat matter with Intel, and that is probably the most important thing that is nudging me more towards AMD. There is not a day that goes by that I am not reading up on this stuff. Fortunately, I have time before I am ready to start buying parts. But one of the things I have been reading up on in the last 2 days (That I had no real idea about) was these 1% & .01% benchmark results. And unless I am wrong, my browsing of this matter leads me to believe that the disparity matters most with VR. I'm not into VR yet, but its on my radar. Bottom line, which CPU is best for DCS , but since I have the option to go either way with a new build, I just want to make the best, long term choice. Should i even care to focus on the potential 1% differences? Who knows? Im sure its going to take awhile before any DCS Simmers get their hands on a 7800X3D, and do some testing and post up the results. @some1 Thanks for the comment, perhaps I made an incorrect assumption on those Benchmarks posted? I presumed that those folks were provided with those AMD CPUs prior to public launch for evaluation etc?
  7. There are some comparison tests already posted up on UTube that compare the 7800X3D to the I9-13900K (Im trying to decide between the 2) and although the FPS on the 7800X3D are higher, I see the 1% numbers for the 13900K much more favorable by my interpretation?
  8. @BitMasterLOL,,, well,,, did I mis-interpret the 4k info. Thanks for straightening me out! I was chasin a ghost on that one!
  9. @BitMaster thanks for the response. I was concerned while doing reviews that there were some cons mentioned related to 4k performance.
  10. @72StuThanks for the feedback. I have read many, many reviews. Whats lacking in them is good feedback on 4k performance for gaming. Thats one of the main reasons why I posted in here and specified (Above) "best performance gaming for DCS at 4k"
  11. Thanks for the clarification on the 990, and the other tips as well. I got an alert this morning about thise SSD being on sale today for one day and I got real anxious about making sure I didnt miss the boat on getting these before they sell out or mis the deadline. I have been going at it hard with all the reading,,,, then I decided to do an inquiry about RAM prices as I was curious to find out if the expectation was that they price would rise, stay flat or drop. I was surprised to see that most reputable publishers basically stated that RAM prices have been dropping since January, and they can be expected to drop more over the next 2-3 months. Seems to me that since Im not really going to start buying parts for a couple months (because Im still researching what to get for either AMD or Intel) anyway, i think I should wait and perhaps get an even better price on whatever I choose.
  12. @BitMasterThanks for the info on the encryption, that frees up the options. Prices today on Amazon are: $154.99 SK hynix Platinum P41 2TB PCIe NVMe Gen4 M.2 ( I think this price is only for today as I read on Slickdeals?) $149.99 WD_BLACK 2TB SN850X $159.00 SAMSUNG 980 PRO SSD 2TB PCIe NVMe Gen 4 Gaming M.2 I thought there was/are issues with the Samsungs? Or is that just the 990? Prices being basically the same, you would pick the Samsung? Im just curious because I have been reading so many reviews for top SSD’s for gaming, and most of the time it the SK hynix Platinum P41 & WD_BLACK 2TB SN850X are in the top 2 and the Samsung 990 somewhere at the top as well occasionally. I have not seen the Samsung 980 come up anywhere that I can recall. Id be very interested in learning why though. Thanks,
  13. I’m putting a parts list together for a new build and Im looking at options for a single, 2TB SSD M.2 Gen 4. I thought I had a few good ones picked out, then I read further and found out they have different features like with or without encryption? I have no idea what the impact is for gaming. This build is primarily for best performance gaming for DCS at 4k. What would be the best M2.s SSD at 2 TB? Here is what was on my initial hit list, and I was just about to pull the trigger on SK hynix Platinum P41 2TB PCIe NVMe Gen4 M.2 2280 Option: WD_BLACK 2TB SN850X NVMe Internal Gaming SSD Solid State Drive - Gen4 PCIe, M.2 2280 Option: Kingston FURY Renegade 2TB PCIe Gen 4.0 NVMe M.2
  14. Thanks very much appreciate the help sir!
  15. @BitMasterThanks for the tips, I will go look at that stuff. By the way, Im not doing an open loop system (not interested in the anxiety or maintenance), the gpu is water cooled already with its own RAD, and I would get a ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 420 (or similar) for the GPU. The tower I found that would accommodate a top and side RAD I picked is Corsair 7000D AIRFLOW
  16. @BitMaster Thanks for the response. I wasnt going with the Gigabyte GPU because the Waterforce is like $700 more than the Suprim. I keep getting nudged towards AMD, but quite honestly, I dont know AMD at all, at least I understand the Intel terminology when I read. I have been reading up on forum topics for new builds for DCS performance, I dont get most of the terms etc. Its tough to plan a build without understanding how the cores work etc. I dont want to turn this thread into a part recommendation thread, but my eyes are bleeding and Im getting info overload. So I will ask a simple question that perhaps I should start a new thread for, but here goes. I have about a $3800.00 budget, and I was going top of line with Intel (MSI RTX 4090 SUPRIM Liquid X 24G is $1,740.00 itself). I plan on keeping the rig for about 5-6 years. I want best performance for DCS at 38" (3840 x 1600) monitor max refresh is 144 I believe, but I would be very happy to not drop below 60hz during game play. What AMD CPU, MOBO and Ram would you strongly recommend? Thanks
  17. Thanks,, yeah, I can only imagine how fast that will sell out!
  18. What is the anticipated pricing of this 7800X3D when it becomes avail Apr 6th? I'm spinning down a rabbit hole now trying to figure out if maybe I should learn AMD and do a build on that instead of Intel instead. My head hurts LOL Ive been reading for a couple days, I am overloading my skull! Even considering the advise just to upgrade in stead of build, putting myself just in a Gen 4 / DDR4 only build or upgrade. So many avenue's!
  19. @BitMasterThanks for the valuable tips as usual! My eyes are burning over the last 3 weeks doing research after research for a new build, Im at a point of information overload and I dont know which way is up anymore LOL. Fortunately, I have a least a couple months before I can commit. Here is a screen shot of current part options on the list. This unresolved RAM is decision is obviously key to the build and parts selection. Again, head spinning. null null
  20. This thread has not caught up to current HyperThreading capability. I am putting a shopping list together for a new build. Im finding a lot of info regarding DDR4 vs DDR5 ram, but I havnt stumbled across any clear cut answer when it comes to doing a build SPECIFICALLY to get the best performance for DCS. The video above addresses a lot, but via a different CPU that doesn’t have the same capabilities of the i9-13900K. Performance recommendations please for the following build would be greatly appreciated. (Parts being seriously considered are as follows) CPU- Intel Core i9-13900K MOBO- ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 Hero GPU- RTX 4090 SUPRIM Liquid X 24G Storage- SAMSUNG 990 PRO SSD 2TB PCIe 4.0 M.2 Using current monitor- LG-Ultragear 38" IPS LED Ultrawide HD Monitor (3840 x 1600)
  21. Man, I already dont get their numbering scheme! 7800X3D being released soon? Yet they have already surpassed that number. I dont get the hype.
  22. LOL,, I can imagine the anxiety by most. I only considered AMD 2 days ago when someone suggested it to me. Outside of that, I have very little knowledge of AMD CPUs, But i am trying to get an understanding. Thanks
  23. Whats happening April 6th? My current parts list is: -Intel Core i9-13900K -ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 Hero -MSI Gaming GeForce RTX 4090 SUPRIM Liquid X 24G -G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB Series (Intel XMP) 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin SDRAM DDR5 6000 CL36-36-36-96 1.35V -SAMSUNG 990 PRO SSD 2TB PCIe 4.0 M.2 Internal Solid State Drive -MSI MPG A1000G PCIE 5 & ATX 3.0 Gaming Power Supply -Tower: Lian Li PC-O11DW 011
  24. Thanks for the response, Im not really sure what you are comparing here "7950x3d on 3d vcache core 20% faster than on non x3d core (aka 7950x)". I know nothing right now about AMD processors, but will apply myself if I discover that AMD is the best route to take on a new build for DCS. Thats my 1st step, is it more sensible performance wise to switch?
  25. I am a little confused in what I have read so far, perhaps more time is needed for a better conclusion due to the Multi Threading? I am getting parts together for a new build and I am wondering if I should actually consider going AMD instead of Intel i9-13900K? I am in need of really trying to knock down the cost anyway as I am just over budget with my current parts list.
