  1. I thought that the MiG-31 could do that using its Zaslon radar and its datalink. But I'm not sure.
  2. Maybe only a few of you guys know it but there still nothing comparable around to use in Hot and High conditions. This thing still lifts about 500kg at 3000m ASL, without flashing all the lights in the cockpit and without burning fuel in 2 engines. Sud-Aviaton (Now Eurocopter) SA-315B Lama Widely used in Switzerland for construction work in remote areas, tourism and off course rescue missions.
  3. Germany flow the MiG-29 in Europe and Slovakia still does also with specially modified ones (MiG-29AS or SD) so does Poland which received the German ones instead of scrapping them and they use them to extend their existing fleet not only as a spare parts donator (or am I wrong with that?). Indias fighter evaluation also included Russian fighters and it is neither banned or out of favor. Btw. Boeing retreated their offer for the F/A-18E and F Super Hornet, which is in my view not the newest (meaning not the fancy, high-tech, high-cost fighter) but the easiest to adapt to our air force. Having a fleet of Hornets and Super Hornets would have been comfortable IMHO. I guess saying that Boeing already saw the political dispute about it coming, is a bit extreme. But still it seems strange to me: the Super Hornet is older concept than the Eurofighter and the Rafale but still isn't outdated that's why they also offered it to India. And the contract is still worth 3 bill. dollars so even Boeing wouldn't take it as "peanuts" ? I don't get their statement: http://boeing.mediaroom.com/index.php?s=43&item=157 Can't tell if their Super Hornet is not meeting minimal req. or max requirements? :poster_offtopic: I know, sorry...
  4. The whole evaluation was a strange: 1st of all no Russian fighters were evaluated (cold war is over or isn't it???) My opinion: you could at least test them and then tell everybody how bad it is but if you don't test them you just don't know it. 2nd: We have chosen the F/A-18C and D Hornet, a USN aircraft and we are a country without a Navy, without Aircraft Carriers, without access to the sea and without ambition to fight a war anywhere overseas. (It is not a bad aircraft don't get me wrong but you also won't build subs to use in a lake...) The Hornet was preferred to the Mirage 2000 also because of the safety aspects considering single-engine aircraft. Nowadays this aspect doesn't plays a role anymore...
  5. It might even have a radar in its nose (becouse the camera is mounted outside) and it got new MWS sensors just behind the radar housing (the same as on the Mi-28 ). Maybe it even has a RWR, in DCS: Black Shark it really sucks when you get shot down by radar guided systems...
  6. http://www.eng.mil.ru/en/index.htm Official web presence of the Russian Army Welcome to 21st century! :music_whistling: No seriously, finally a place to get facts about Russian armed forces  ------------------------------------- Switzerland received a new offer from Dassault for their Rafale, which is much cheaper because they received the final order from India. Even though the decision to buy 22 Gripens is already official since Nov. 2011, Saab also stated they would offer a new cheaper contract (wonder how that is justified...) But there's nothing official it was just mentioned by some spokesmen of Saab and Dassault. The goverment stated that the decision is already final and any new offer won't be taken inot account. (?) Swiss national radio article (German) I don't think that the our DoD won't have a look at the new offers because the decision for the Gripen was justified by having "the best price-performance relation". So the parliament won't say yes to this deal if there are even two new cheaper offers around. So I can still hope for the Rafale...
  7. Is this still called Ka-52? Is this the normal Shkval but mounted externally? Seem to be a big upgrade.
  8. nice E/A-18G could you tell me where I can download a higher resolution version of that?
  9. I just imagine a guy black out in front of his computer simulation, because the oxygen supply failed. :megalol: Damn 800$ is quite a bit of money!
  10. I assume the next fixed-wing US aircraft will be a more or less modern fighter jet. I wish that (if the A/C carries it in real life) we will be able to use Anti radiation missiles which are simulated as close as possible to their real life counterparts. I think of a AGM-88 HARM or something similar, I don't know if the USAF uses any other ARMs. It would be really nice, having a real multirole airplane which can handle A-A, A-G and SEAD tasks.

  11. It would be really nice if some special buildings would be modelled in DCS like the huge telescopes south of Cherkessk http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special_Astrophysical_Observatory_of_the_Russian_Academy_of_Science
  12. Erm which secret button? :suspect: btw: the backseat looks "deadly", there isn't much in the USAF inventory which can't be guided on this screens
  13. This song is just great for any flying video
  14. I found this a while ago at thebattlesim.com: I think there is a chance that FC3 will feature this new aircraft and it would be a really NICE feature (ED :book: ED:book: NICE... ) I rarely play MP because a lot of things were suspicious too me and flying the Ka-50 on a mixed BS, FC2 server gets a little bit annoying after you get shot the 2nd time by an F-15C... I really hope that ED will solve the problem so it won't end up like the dusty Modern Warfare 2 DVD in my room. Please stand by: Host migration........ :music_whistling:
  15. Oh yes, I agree the Eurofighter is a nice aircraft :P
  16. Call the FBI and tell 'em that you fell down a pair of stairs! (sorry but I didn't found a video of that  )
  17. @Mikoyan89 Yes that's a nightmare too :hehe: BTW: The mine clearing video is really nice.
  18. Too bad that Russia's aerospace and defence industry is still not taken serious in the west. This cockpit looks nice and damn I would love to see new Su-30 instead of crappy low-cost Gripens for the replacement of our crappy low-cost F-5E Tigers.
  19. Does anyone knows what the gray "things" on top of the main rotor are? Some of the newer Mil Mi-8 have it.
  20. @dooom I use a program called "MP3 Gain" to make my music files louder. (So I don't have to switch my speaker's volume all the time)
  21. Posted in the russian part of the forum by Sasha_Perm: Are these missiles also tested in Kapustin Jar or is this elsewhere?
  22. Look like ED software, especially the Hornet and the In-cockpit scenes.
  23. At http://.usaf.aib.law.af.mil have a look at the 8 Sep 2004, QF-4E-incident. As far as I understand these drones do have a mechanism to destroy the aircraft (via UHF). Well they are intended to be destroyed anyway so that's probably why they have this system. Like if the aircraft is damaged in a way it can't be controlled anymore, you can blow it up, avoiding 15+ tons of metal hitting one spot. Probably the spy and other drones don't have it, although I once read that the U-2 has it, but I don't have a source for this. I also read that the U-2 pilots had some poison with them to kill themselves before getting captured. A picture of the equipment Gary Powers was carrying, I made in Moscow, shows something that could be an injection, but again my few Russian words weren't enough... Right-lower corner http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/59/img5533x.jpg/ (Huge picture) http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/5259/img5533x.jpg Btw: Have a look at the letter on the picture :D Oh and btw, I was just flying above your country to take some pictures :music_whistling:
  24. For anyone not believing in this story: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U-2_shootdown I saw it, I touched it and I made pictures of it: BTW: Another spy drone that went down back 1971: Story: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockheed_D-21/M-21#Operational_history Accidentally or not, crashed or hacked, flying into another country's airspace isn't something that happens every day. But if it happens between two countries which have diplomatic relations only via a third country (Switzerland in the case of the USA an Iran, btw), it doesn't improve their situation. This thread is getting a little bit political and is already far in the conspiracy corner... :ufo:
  25. BTW: For everyone interested visit http://usaf.aib.law.af.mil/ Full USAF crash reports. I had to use a US-proxy server to access the site
