  1. I didn't even notice the date. Now I wish I could delete this thread.
  2. It's time to speak up guys. On the Virpil site they are conducting a survey for the design of an aux panel. They are actually asking us what we want and if we aren't very vocal about it, they may not bother to ask again. There's something like 16 different versions of buttons, switches, knobs and levers. I've asked a question before I enter my vote. All the switches seem to be north/south OFF-ON and I want to know if any of the switch can be made east/west and ON-OFF-ON, ON-ON, MOM-OFF-MOM or some other type. And after they answer that one I have more. I know we have more than a couple of hundred Virpil users on DCS and a lot of others that are looking. Speak up guys, let your voice be heard. https://forum.virpil.com/index.php?/forum/21-control-panel-community-vote/ There's actually 4 surveys. Jets, pistons, space and swing-wing. Pick you poison.
  3. A little more info Can you laze it for us. I can't find any mod with a name even close.
  4. I'm asking for help here because, as many users that Discord has there is very little help that I can find. When I get onto the server I want to play on and join the Discord channel that is used for comms sometimes the other people in the channel are listed on screen. When they key their mike the name highlights so I know who is talking. Unfortunately I only get this list sometimes and I want to find out how to turn it on and off.
  5. I agree but I would apply the complaint to all aircraft, at least the one that I have. I bought a 40" TV to play on to try and get the instruments size as close to real life as I can. It didn't work. The F16 is still to small to read and I'll bet the pilot doesn't have to lean forward to read their MFD's. That would be fun trying to do that from a seat leaned back at 30 degrees and pulling a few G's. The F18 is just the opposite. Everything on the MFD's are so stretched out and fuzzy the that they look to be out of focus. The only way to make them usable is a MOD that I found but I still have to modify that also. AND THIS MOD ISN'T SEEN IF I INSTALL IT IN THE SAVED GAMES FOLDER. I have to install it in the program folder. But that's another issue I'm trying to find a solution for. I really don't see how you guys with the computer monitors can even play. The symbols would be so small that you would need a magnifying glass to see them.
  6. You should be able to use it for elevation if you apply the proper curve to it. Tell us what acft your looking to set it up in and some ideas of what you might like to use it for. It doesn't even have to be an axis, somebody here will be able to tell you how to program the software to do it.
  7. I'm assuming the you mean the slider that sets under you left ring finger. I use it for view zoom. Remember that it's an axis, You can adjust it from a fine to coarse control by using a combination of curves and XY control both in the Virpil software and DCS axis controls.
  8. That doesn't make it fire any faster, but if you turn the encoder 20 clicks, all 20 are in a buffer and the bug will move 20 degrees. In the unbuffered state the bug would stop moving as soon as you stop turning the encoder. The trouble with buffered is that you can end up way past the heading you intended to set and have to come back the other way.
  9. QNH is the norm You right, we use QNH here. I've lived in Las Vegas for 30 years and flow in and out of every airport and base in the valley and I have never heard of anybody using QFE.
  10. Slow encoder rotation Astronaut Have you found a way to speed up the rotation of the encoders on you heading and course bugs? Normal encoder rotation is way to slow, using buffering and I end up way past where I want to set them. I have no idea what scroll means, I can't see any difference. If I could, I would assign the push button on the encoder as a shift causing the rotation to move the bug 5 degrees at a time and leave the normal position at 1 degree at a time. As of yet I cant find a way to change the rate at which the encoder changed the bug's. I haven't looked at Joystick Gremlin yet, may it has the functionality to do what I want.
  11. Possible solution Hey guys, I was shooting in the dark yesterday trying to find a answer to this problem and I found one that works for me on the F18 at least. I havent tried it with the A10 yet. This is the text of the MDG_strokesDefs.lua file as I have modified it. This starts with a Readability mod from another one of our flyers, so, credit where credit is due. i wouldn't have had any idea where to start without it. I run a 40in 4K TV as my primary display and it is currently at 3840x2160. I have exported both DDI's and the AMPCD to a 23in 1920x1080 and increased their size to to 600x600 pixels for the DDI's and 700x675 for the AMPCD. It make finding targets with the TPOD a whole lot easier when using the AMPCD B&W over the green of the DDI's. stroke_thickness = 0.0 stroke_fuzziness = 0.4 -- Currently is used for DMC generated fonts black outline DMC_outline_thickness = stroke_thickness * 1 DMC_outline_fuzziness = stroke_fuzziness * 1 DMC_stroke_thickness = 0.0 DMC_stroke_fuzziness = 0.4
  12. Count me in on this too. My exports look great and I can actually read them now, but because the MFCD's and HUD are tied together in one configuration LUA, making one readable makes the other unreadable. My HUD symbology is so thin that some of it disappears. It's hard enough trying to read alight yellow font HUD against a lite colored sky. I don't really care if the in cockpit MFCD's are readable with the exported ones being larger and readable. It seems a little strange to me to have the font's for an in cockpit LCD screen tied to an external HUD without any way to adjust for differences in light and background except for day/night switches seems a little strange.
  13. I am opening this thread again because I have made changes with no resolution to the problem. I have moved my install to a Win 10 with all new downloads and installations. My problem still exist. To keep it simple my example uses the "DisplayReadablityModifiedV2.5" mod for the FA-18. It changes the font size of the MFD to make the readable when using a large screen. Mine is a 40in 4K TV. When I put the modified files under my "SavedGames" folder DCS doesn't pick them up but when I change the files in the DCS programs directory they do modify the MFD's. My saved games folder has the exact same directory structure as the DCS directory. I know the saved games folder is being read because my HOTAS mapping is correct, but no mod that I put in that directory modifies DCS in any way. I've tried OvGME to do the installation and it put the modified file in the exact same place I do but DCS doesn't seem to pick them up either. Does anybody have an idea what is going wrong and what I can do to fix it?
  14. After reinstalling and testing again I'm closing out this problem with no resolution...yet. To much chatter about MOD's not working in 2.5.5 so I'm dumping all my MOD's except the MFD Readability MOD. I'll wait until I see updated MOD's and give them a try.
  15. Thanks Der but I'll probably have one of them by then. Right now I'm just waiting for Black Friday to see if nVidia might add a game to the purchase of of the 2070 XT. Maybe later we can exchange screen shots and compare. It might help the next person who's looking to upgrade.
  16. Art, That MOD is just the easiest to test with but I have also tried other MOD's that are listed on the DCS web site. Just simple ones though so I could easily check to see if it was installed in the SG folder according to the directory tree that was required. The MOD I used does work if I install the two files directly into the program directory and replace the default files. I'll get a few more MOD's and try them but I just don't understand how DCS can create it's own folder under my SG folder but then not use it.
  17. Last night I gave up trying to fix the current installation, so I wiped out both of my DCS installs. After reinstalling I tried to run a MOD again with no luck. On first run DCS did create a MOD root folder in my SG folder. I used OvGME to installed Rackham's display readability mod for the F18. DCS didn't read the mod. I installed the 2 files for this mod directly into the DCS install and it worked. I have to assume that the mod is valid and DCS just wasn't looking at the SG folder. I looked in the DCS log and only found one line that referenced the SG folder and it was looking in the fxo folder for something to do with DX11. Does anybody know where I can check in DCS for the instruction that tells it to go look in the SG folder and what the correct folder tree is?
  18. The display readability mod is generally used in order to read the MFD's on the F18 and it does work if I make the same changes to the file in the program folder for DCS. I'll look at some other mods and try them just to confirm your suspicions but the mod's I'm trying are simple. They only change or add one or two files. It's easy for me to see rather easly that they are installed correctly.
  19. For years now I've heard that flight sims seem to have a better affinity with nVidia cards over AMD cards. I couldn't find any discussions on this topic so I thought I'd ask and see what people who actually use these cards in sims have to say. I'm looking at nVidia's 2070 Super vs AMD 5700XT. On the tech web sites they never compare cards using any type of flight sim so I am at a lose of any real opinions on this subject. These cards are almost identical in performance with a $100 price difference. But if nVidia does work better with flight sims then the price may be worth it. Pro's, con's and any opinions on the subject are welcome whether it's the match of these two cards or team red vs team green in general.
  20. No, it hasn't been moved. As I said I the OP...in my saved games folder I renamed the dcs folder. I then started DCS and I watched it create a new root folder for it's self in my saved games folder. I then used that new folder to install a couple of mods. It didnt change a thing.
  21. David OC is right. I need to make a change within DCS that is stored in the Saved Games folder in order to properly determine if it is being read. I know OVGME is working because I have installed the MFD readability mod. I watch it create it's entire directory structure from the MOD folder on down, but my MFD's don't change. I also install the FPS readability mod. I can't see that install because it just replaces files that are already there. But my FPS is still unreadable in the upper left corner. I'm just trying to determine if I've broken something in DCS that keeps it from reading the Saved Games folder. I have ran the repair app but there was no change. I don't have a complex install yet so maybe it would be better to reinstall DCS and see if that fixes it.
  22. I thought I'd ask about this before going through the hassle of reinstalling. DCS does not seem to be reading information from the Saved Games folder. I have renamed the DCS folder in Saved Games and restarted DCS. I see that DCS re-creates the folder with the exact same name it had before. I have used OVGME to install mods and I see them writing to the DCS folder in Saved Games correctly. I have added several simple MODS in case one installed in the wrong directory structure. Any body see this before and how did you fix it?
  23. I've been looking through the key binds for a couple of acft that I have. There are titles of key binds that I have no idea what they are meant to do. I don't know if it's a language thing but I am at a loss. Does DCS produce a document that explains what the key bind was programmed to do?:book:
  24. Navel bombers I hadn't thought of the A6 and Aardvark but thats a good idea.
