  1. For dogfighting with guns, put the weapons switch on air, the top switch to guns, leave the other two alone (up). You'll know you have it right because you'll get the gyro effect on the piper. Setting for bombs is pretty simple too. IIRC, just put the weapons switch to ground, middle asp switch to B, top on launch. The piper should disappear in level flight when in bombing mode. I never touch the bottom switch or the dials. Slayed many AI with this configuration
  2. He must have missed his landmark on the touchdown. They have very specific points on the deck they aim to set it down on. There's a good video about a Marine Harrier that had a front gear that failed, and the deck crew set a stool down where he is supposed to set the front gear down at, and the pilot nailed the landing. Edit: found it.
  3. I'd say it lines up pretty nicely with this video. The pilot has very crisp, sharp control over the aircraft.
  4. Heres one with some low speed rolls/stalling. At 300km/h it rolls about 140/s. At full on stall it became extremely slow rolling, eventually becoming uncontrollable and doing some weird stuff. I'm not a aerodynamic engineer so excuse my inaccuracies in describing the behavior, but you can see for yourself. I wouldn't categorize it as being "too responsive", i didn't regain positive control until let it settle into a full nose dive and regain some speed. I hope you appreciate this Comrades, it cost me my life.
  5. I've ridden in many CH-53's, CH-46's, mostly in administrative movements, but sometimes roping out of them, jumping into the water, etc... The best ride I had was going from the USS Essex to the USS Juneau in the middle of the Pacific on a SH-60 Seahawk. The pilots decided to have a little fun I guess and did some maneuvers that caused the crew chief, who was not buckled to a seat, to flip on to the ceiling of the bird as we ascended and descended rapidly and repeatedly. As we went on the down slope of the roller coaster, he would flip on to his back on the ceiling until we started to climb and gravity returned him to the floor. It was literally one of funniest things I experienced in the military. I just figured they were having a good time on an otherwise boring flight. But man, having the doors open and out over the open sea, that was impressive without the acrobatics. As far as jets go, my only experience with them was seeing them conduct CAS. No A-10's unfortunately. I did witness a JDAM strike, however. I guess felt is a better word than witness, it rattled my chest pretty good. I also saw an F-18 scare the enemy out of cover by making a low pass and dropping flares over them. I guess we were too close for him to use weapons, I dont recall the reason that low pass was requested, but it worked. Saw F-22's flying over Kadena AB when I was out there as well. I think thats it. Edit: I also witnessed an F-18 crash at Miramar Air Station in early 2007. The pilot was doing touch and goes or something, but we saw him take off, and you could tell the engines went out, and then he punched out. Plane crashed in a field near where we were training with Stu Segal for a deployment. One of the guys in my unit was the first to get to the pilot, my buddy said he was ok, but really worried that he had killed someone.
  6. The weapons selector works as it is intended now. Its more of a priority selector rather than an off on switch. Heres an example: Plane loaded with 2x R3R on stations 1 and 2, 4x R60 on stations 3 and 4. You put the IR/SAR switch on SAR, and the weapons selector knob to station 1. In this configuration, the plane will fire 1 R3R when the weapons release is pressed. Press it again, it will fire the other. Once there are no more radar missles left, the plane automatically selects the R60 and goes into IR mode without touching anything. No more hitting switches and turning the knob to fire different missles. You want to salvo fire both rails, you select the 1-2 position, or the 3-4 position.
  7. That is an outstanding deal. I'm hoping for a decent bundle on June 6th.
  8. Haha. That would be great. Although if you really did it, I would expect there to be condensation built up because of the warmer air being created by the computer heat.
  9. Lots of good info on here. Something important to remember that each individual CPU has its own performance capabilities and limitations, so like was said above, you really have to test it on your own. There is no copy and paste answers. This is a great thread. CPU tweaking is very intriguing to me.
  10. What is the best sale you've seen from ED? For me, it's been the F5/NTTR, and the fatherland sale where I picked up Mig21 and Ka-50 for a total of $45. Also throw your bets down for the inevitable June 6th WW2 bundle/sale!
  11. Point taken. I guess I was hoping for a similar package price to the F5/NTTR. I already have NTTR, just concerned about precedent being set for future map/mod bundles.
  12. Thanks for the embed tip. I've done some further testing due to some complaints on here, at different speeds etc, and I feel like the module more closely resembles real world performance. There's some really great documents on the 21 because of all the testing the US conducted on "borrowed" MiGs.
  13. Looks like the viggen/CA bundle is the best deal, but I'm a little confused by the $88 Viggen/NTTR package. Looks like a savings of $12 off full price. I'm not complaining about saving ANY money on a module, but if you were to buy both for full price, you would receive $22 in bonus points. Thoughts?
  14. also if someone knows how to make embed youtube work, could you help a brotha out?
  15. Due to all the discussion on the new roll rate, I made a quick, extremely scientific roll rate test video. Doing my simple math, at 1000 km/h, the roll rate seems right under 400 degrees/second. Given the stated roll rate of around 420/second, it would appear the flight model is behaving very closely to the real deal. It is also now possible to induce blackout at higher speeds in a full roll, which has also been documented in MiG-21 articles and tests. I also noticed the RWR is slanted about 30 degrees to the right now as well. Not sure if this has been discussed.
  16. i WRECKED the F4 instant action dogfight on the first try with the new FM. MiG doesn't feel like a PiG any more.
  17. Good news boys! New FM update has the MiG-21 kicking ass in a turning fight like it should. I also struggled to keep up with the F4 in a vertical fight like I've read in articles. Really enjoying the update.
  18. If I'm not mistaken, Dolphin flies the MiG-21 IRL. So I'm pretty inclined to take his word for it when he says the module is behaving realistically. Even if it felt totally wrong to us desk pilots, if thats how it is in real life, what complaint could there be? Do we not want the most realistic simulation possible? Or one that feels right to us?
  19. I got home fired up to get a Viggen bundle, and its $88. I'm a little confused. The F5/NTTR bundle is $66. The F5 is 59.99. The Viggen is 59.99 (47.99 now), why is the viggen/NTTR bundle more expensive? Just curious.
  20. It's a gigabyte z170 gaming micro I believe. I'd have to look when I get home. Yeah I could definitely lower it some, like I said I just don't want to mess with it. I'm not the most adept computer person, and like I said it runs cool enough for what I do. It has never been over 73c during hours long gaming sessions. Besides if it burns up, gives me excuse to upgrade!
  21. For sure you don't want to run full voltage full time. My z170 boards bios over clock program uses adaptive voltage. What I meant was that sometimes they apply more voltage than necessary to maintain a stable clock. For example my 6600k runs at 1.3v @ 4300 ghz under full load. It could possibly (probably) run that clock speed at a lower vcore and still be stable. I just ran the boards default 4300 settings to save time and headache. I don't worry about it because the temps are good. I could probably get away with 4500+ at that voltage, but to me, the amount of gain is not worth the hassle.
  22. Bios overclocking is better in my opinion. Most motherboards come with over clocking programs pre packaged, but the general consensus is they are usually a little overboard on voltage. A little research goes a long way in overclocking. I use bios overclocking on my gtx 970 (1320 gpu 3500 men) and i56600k (4.3 ghz). Temps don't go above 73c on either, and get anywhere from 60-120+ fps on high preset for DCS depending on map and location. I use conservative overclocks because I have a small form case and air cooling.
  23. As far as I understand, you can't run out of activations. If you use them all, it will automatically give you another one after 31 days. So even if you burn your last activation, you will get another in a month.
  24. Supposedly hitting us this weekend. I wonder what all made it in
  25. SPAMRAM the merge, then dump remaining 120's after completing 15g turn to get on his six. My favorite F-15 tactic. Works well in BVR too.
