  1. I wonder much can be ported over versus building it from scratch?
  2. What improvements will there be for the DCS Harrier versus the one RAZBAM has already made? I'm not talking weapons or systems implementation, but more along the lines of flight dynamics. In other words, will there be a noticeable difference outside of graphics?
  3. It's not a question of passion, but rather professionalism.
  4. Cockpit sounds pretty cool. HUD refresh is too fast though.
  5. From what I understand, the release of normandy will be in a version 2.1. This 2.1 version will have the lighting updates as part of the core game, and be able to run both normandy and NTTR. I would hope the clip map issue would be integrated as well. But for sure the lighting improvements, which are a graphics engine update, will come to any map running on 2.1.
  6. I hope they will also address the level of detail issues that have creeped into NTTR. Some of the terrain textures have become atrocious even on max settings. It's like it's stuck in "low".
  7. Will Nevada be receiving upgrades with the release of 2.1 and Normandy? Like lighting, smoke, etc?
  8. I found myself in a similar situation last week. I ended up picking up the p51d to try the ww2 aspect before Normandy comes out. I've come to the conclusion that fully simulated ww2 aircraft are a blast to fly, but extremely boring to fight. When playing on realistic servers with no awacs, no external, no labels, no f10 map, it's entirely possible to fly around for 30-45 minutes and never encounter an enemy. And when you are lucky enough to spot something, you have to visually IFF, which means you might expend your altitude/energy just to buzz a friendly. The solution to this is to play with some "cheats" enabled, which in turn ruin the simulation aspect. Again just my opinion, but I won't be buying any future ww2 modules or the map. Just not for me. The tiger is a great module, very well done, and still requires lots of skill to be effective in combat. Also allows you to mix load outs and can have significant loiter time if you aren't burning around everywhere.
  9. I just like the English cockpit because it's irritating to me to not be able to read the warnings etc. you could learn what each French term translated to, id just rather save some time and bypass the language barrier. Did the same with mig21 and last-50, but those models came with a English option, no mod needed.
  10. I would also suggest the English cockpit mod on the DCS user content download section, if you do not speak French.
  11. You really don't need much mapped to the Hotas. I have nosewheel steering, magic slave/CCRP point button, chaff/flare release, and trim. You can switch between mouse look and clicking cockpit by double tapping the mouse wheel button. The plane doesn't require a lot of mapping, but you could map the TDC slew and target lock buttons if you wanted. When I need to change weapons I just click on the weapons selection panel manually. Overall I have found the Mirage to be very easy to fly and land. When landing just set the back wheels down at about 150 kts, and wheelie down the runway till about 115 kts and let the nose down softly. Landings are butter smooth with this thing, it is a gigantic wing after all.
  12. Raytheon says the AV8B can use AIM-9X. http://www.raytheon.com/capabilities/products/aim-9x/
  13. just to test it, i loaded up the f5 take off mission, accelerated to 160 kts, then aborted the takeoff and was able to stop before reaching the end of the runway, no chute. I just cut throttle and then stabbed the brakes repeatedly until it stopped. And I wasnt able to reach 160 till about halfway down the run way, so a normal landing would be no problem.
  14. did you try pumping the brakes? gotta drive it like a car with no ABS. Get as much stopping power as you can and if it starts to skid, let off and then reapply pressure right up to the skidding point.
  15. Well boys, the coin flip worked, kinda. Ended up getting the Mirage, A10C, and P51. Did I say $66? I meant $77. DAMN YOU ED AND SALES!!!!!!!
  16. I prefer flying. Anything. Honestly though I cant decide. I like the MiG21 because its hard to fly, I like the F5 because of its simplicity. I like the Ka-50 for its ground attack capability. My main negative points for each of the listed modules: P51D: I already have the TF-51, and it would basically be the same thing but now I can fight on the WW2 servers. Mirage: Its another delta wing aircraft, and has about the same ground attack capabilities as the F5 and MiG21. It does have BVR though. Huey: I dont know how much fun it will be to just fly around in a helicopter that cannot really bring much to the table combat wise. But I love the huey in general. A10C: Biggest drawback here is the complexity of systems, on top of having the A10A already. I don't enjoy the A10A all too much because of its lack of precision munitions, but to be honest, I don't know if I'll have the time to invest in learning the TGP, NAV, etc.
  17. Help make up my mind. Modules I have: Nevada FC3 MiG21 Ka-50 F5 Modules Interested in: P51D $18 Mirage $36 Huey $30 A10C $26 EDIT: Can go up to $66. Talked myself into it.
  18. Just wanted to say thanks for running a good server. Had a good time on their lately.
  19. I haven't read the manual in a while, but I think it recommends the technique I use as well.
  20. In my experience, you rotate at 250 to about 10-12 degrees AoA and hold it there, and allow the aircraft to lift it self off the tarmac. If you over rotate it, it puts too much pressure on the back tires and they will explode. I've used this technique successfully online and off, bombs, nuke, clean, etc. If the front tire is bursting I don't know what could be wrong.
  21. Must be a weird bug like the last issue where only certain people experienced it. Working for me on 2.0 and open beta, but I don't have release version installed. When you look at the plane in F2 view, are the dispensers visible on the plane?
  22. What version? I was messing around 2.0 last night online, flares and chaff worked for me. Was the system loaded on the plane? Was the Sprd drop cover open?
  23. Been quiet over here lately. Can we get a Fights On Part 2? I promise people wont bitch about HUD refresh rates....
  24. ive tried binding it to other mouse buttons, wont let me. I understand double clicking the mouse wheel, but id rather have it on one of the side mouse buttons.
