  1. Anyone know how to get the little joystick on the HOTAS that ships with the 1600 to function like a button? Its normally a control stick, but given the lack of a TDC action axis - I need it to function like a button so I can control TDC with it.
  2. Sure, but this is a workaround at best...
  3. This happen to anyone else? Usually to initially designate a target with the targeting pod, I set TDC slew mode (TDC is underlined), boresight the pod, move the TGP icon in the HUD over whatever I want to target, then press TDC down (action). This used to lock my targeting pod onto whatever it was looking at on the ground, then I can slew it around for a fine-tune. Now, when I initially press TDC action, it snaps to the DMT. I have to go back through the display to get back to the targeting pod.
  4. If you happen across it, the book Viper Pilot is a good read. It is written by an F-16 wild weasel pilot who fought in the gulf war, and in Iraq after September 11th. And from my reading of the book they normally used HARMs as suppression (force them to shut off), and did the actual killing of the Sams by marking their location and running in with cluster bombs. Considering the DCS F/A-18C weapons and variant are from the early 2000's I figure his tactics would be valid.
  5. Probably should have checked here... I am stuck on this part as well. Same reasons. The Huey won't land and I can't see the enemy infantry and vehicles in the thick trees. My AI flight sees them and will pound them however I can't see squat and the Huey never lands so eventually the enemy catches up and kills the downed pilot.
  6. I'm about 3-4 missions in (just finished the night mission with the GBU-12's) good stuff!
  7. Can anyone else confirm this? I have G-Sync 1ms monitor and 980ti. I had V-Sync off as I thought it was an alternate system to be used with monitors not capable of G-Sync. I have the latest NVIDIA drivers installed (as of yesterday) and am getting some issues with movement. Specifically if I have a wingman and I move my head at a medium speed, it looks like the wingman is going into warp speed (a blur behind or in front of the aircraft depending on which way I move my head).
  8. Low altitude works for SAM's as the radar and missile are coming from the ground. Most of them are semi-active and if you can break the lock from the ground radar they go ballistic. Even in relatively flat areas you can usually find enough terrain to put something between yourself and the ground radar. Missiles (active and semi-active) fired from aircraft - you have to hide from a radar that is way up in the sky. Much more difficult to do.
  9. One tip on the A-10. Don't load it up too much. Start with 60% fuel and reduce your weapons load to keep the weight around the 40k mark at takeoff. It becomes a different airplane.
  10. Anyone else having this problem in 2.2? Nevada map. Haven't tried Normandy. When using the DMT - TV sensor, on the HUD the aiming reticle for the sensor is slaved to my flight path marker, but the camera is actually looking somewhere off to the left. It moves along with the airplane, but was looking over to the left. If I locked with Action buttion, it would lock a point to my left. Now that I think about it (this happened last night) I did have some crosswind from the right. Maybe there is a bug (or not implemented yet) using this with wind.
  11. This thread is proof that you can't please everyone. I think the Harrier is a lot of fun to fly. It will never live up to the Hog in terms of things like loiter time and weapons capacity but the speed and VSTOL makes up for that. Actually the only module I bought in DCS that I regret purchasing is the Viggen. It's got a lot of cool features but I found the learning curve too steep and the systems not intuitive. I flew it a few times and that's about it. This is not necessarily the designer's fault.
  12. Are you talking about getting it to track after firing a missile? Sortof running into this issue myself. Lock with TV, uncage mav, select mav sensor as SOI, lock mav with action button, fire. Then I want to switch back to TV and find the next target, but the Mav won't track it unless I hit NWS, which takes my TV back to center and away from the target area. If I just cage/uncage the next missile real fast, will it start tracking the TV again?

    LHA-1 Tawara

What are normal procedures for sorties off a ship like the Tawara? Rolling vertical takeoff and vertical landing? Any idea of gross weights for the RVTO? I know I saw a limitation for vertical landings around 20,000lbs
  14. The wheel brakes seem very weak on the Harrier when pressing the W key. Is there a modifier to increase braking pressure like on some other aircraft? Even touching down at 60-70 knots i'm eating up a ton of runway in the landing rollout. I understand that the nozzles can reverse to a degree but I still feel the brakes should be stronger. PS Love the harrier, very fun to fly.
  15. Where do I subscribe to the newsletter?
  16. Rob is spot on, also there is a group of 355th guys based overseas that might jive better with the OP's schedule. Try posting this on the 355th forum he linked you to. Handle is 355th Gaffer
  17. Thanks. Really the only solid answers I have found.
  18. For the life of me, I can't find any instructions on using the GBU-12 with the F5. Specifically how do I set the code for the bomb and make sure its armed??? Yes I read the manual and GBU-12 is listed as "WIP" - there is no text on it.
  19. Now that could be an issue. The airspeed is definitely reading out fine, but I don't put the pitot heat on every time. I will try and replicate the problem and see if that is causing it.
