DMT has no night or thermal optics. You will have to use FLIR or TPOD or a combination of them to ID and designate your targets.

SAR High Res imaging Quality on the An/APg73 Phase 2 Radar
Revelation replied to Kev2go's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
That is really going to come down to the target itself. If your target is a fixed structure that can be identified via SAR imaging, then you don't have a need for a targeting pod. You could also have a scenario where your TGT waypoint is set in an area of vehicles. You use your A/G radar to detect what's there. You can switch between GMT or SAR or SAR+GMT and then point your ATFLIR at the target(s) you see for visual ID. In this instance you would target higher threats and leave the rest for Hogs and Harriers. One thing to keep in mind regular A/G mode can scan something like a 20 mile area. The more you focus your radar, aka zoom in (EXP), the smaller the area you can scan at any given time. SAR imaging can only scan, roughly a 1-2 mile area. So it is best used when you know the general area of your target(s). -
SAR High Res imaging Quality on the An/APg73 Phase 2 Radar
Revelation replied to Kev2go's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
The further away you start the SAR scanning the better the image. That is because more "points" are able to be generated. Imagine each scan happens once per second, faster in real life, and each scan is a "slice" taken at that particular angle to the target(s). The more slices you have the more data points your computers can use to generate an image. The only thing you can really find is that it is listed at greater than 60 miles. Remember it can be used to generate GPS data for targets and assign them to weapons that can hit targets from 100+ miles away... -
SAR High Res imaging Quality on the An/APg73 Phase 2 Radar
Revelation replied to Kev2go's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
A couple of points to add: SAR imaging has a "GMT mode," I haven't seen an instance of this depicted anywhere so I don't know how it compares to regular GMT mode. I once read that an F-15E pilot could see the spinning radar dish on a SAM via SAR imaging from his radar. One point to keep in mind is that the APG-73 was capable of Hi-Res imaging, though the hardware in the cockpit was only capable of Med-Res imaging. I haven't found anything to the contrary in all of my searches. There's actually a dedicated Data Pod to transmit Hi-Res imaging. Here's an illustrated example of SAR imaging. -
I see what you did there... ;) :megalol: jk

Since there are children still starving somewhere you should not spend time playing video games and spend your time and money helping those less fortunate. During the time you spend online you could be out giving at least one person a meal... It's the typical socialist that insists others should go without to help others and derides success. It's the typical socialist that never lifts a finger to help people but has no problem pointing fingers at people. It's the typical socialist that insist they know how to spend other people's money better and only if you give them more of your money can they solve all problems. It's a typical socialist that refuses to understand that people's situations are a result of their choices in life.

Most people that abstain from purchasing NTTR do so not due to a lack of campaigns for the terrain, but the location of said terrain. Most claim that they want a "realistic location" to carry out virtual-warfare. I agree the Hornet will be one of the most popular modules for some time to come. There are other modules, even carrier based, that the community is just as excited for. "Best Map" now that is very subjective... What do you base that off of? I think the new Caucasus map will be just as equally capable of having carrier operations taking place. Heck for that matter Normandy, while a historic map, has "ocean water" and one can utilize a carrier on that map as well. SoH will be the new "hotness" and it will probably get most of the attention post-release. That I fully expect. Those campaigns do not exist on SoH though. Using your logic, there will be campaigns for the Hornet on the Caucasus and NTTR so they don't need to create campaigns for the Hornet + SoH. With that said, campaigns will come for the SoH for most if not all modules - eventually. There is no reason for ED to take the time to build a campaign for SoH just for one module. What about those that buy SoH but don't want to buy the Hornet, crazy as that sounds some people chose not to buy it, should they have to "pay" for a campaign for a module they don't own?

You'll have to download the stand alone installer. It should "see" your Steam install and pull the necessary files from it that it can use. If it doesn't see your Steam version, then it will download all files net new to your PC. You need to search the announcements and figure out if your modules will move between Steam or not.
-
Yes. You will need to find the post on what modules can be used between Steam and DCS Stand Alone and which ones can't. I believe it was around the time of the M2000C is where things changed.

Response from Thrustmaster re. F/A-18 HOTAS
Revelation replied to Garyss's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
There's no Hornet style stick on the website. Further there has not been an announcement that they were working on one. The closest they have is the Modern Combat Grip which is modeled after modern Eastern Block AC. -
People will buy the map with or without a dedicated campaign for it. Further, would you only create a campaign for the Hornet? What about the Blackshark or the A-10C? Why stop there? People will not buy a map just for a campaign, unless it was the first iteration of a Dynamic Campaign.

There were numerous shots of Hormuz in the video. It jumps from Caucasus to Hormuz a little over half-way through.

If you wait long enough you could get a deal that included SoH + Hornet + Carrier. You have the choice to pre-purchase the Hornet now or wait. That is your choice and your choice alone. You acknowledge that ED has said bundle deals are likely, so do you want to wait for said deal or not? If you do, then simply just wait... Yes they do know what to do; they can pre-purchase or wait for a "better deal." A good roadmap will not avoid any discussions that you are mentioning. Building hype is all about marketing. To entice your customer base to purchase a product. $20 off is not "aggressive marketing" in the least bit. $20 is an enticement to pre-purchase now versus waiting for release. The expiration date of the pre-purchase discount is irrelevant. You either want to pre-purchase the module or you don't. It doesn't matter if the Hornet were being released tomorrow or next year. YOU and you alone have the choice to decide if YOU want to pre-purchase the Hornet at the given price or not. I've already given you a reason why we most likely will not get a roadmap.

Yes, there was a small group of people that threw fits and insults at Razbam during the early days of EA because things were not getting done in precisely the time Razbam was "shooting for." Razbam had great communication during that time even in regards to delays, but some refused to accept anything other than the original dates.
-
I'd love to see ED do this as well, though I doubt it will happen. Razbam had done the same thing with the Mirage and they still received a ton of flack from a vocal minority.
-
No, they said they would be released around the same time. Granted that was when they were still trying for a Winter 2016 release. So I would not expect that to hold true today.
-
Normal flying. Typically you want in in uncaged when landing and taking off to help identify wind drift. You would also want to uncage it when dropping dumb bombs from altitude to give yourself a better setup prior to release.

No, that is not what I typed. I typed the Stennis, that we have in game, is a very simple rendition since no US player controlled aircraft currently operate from a carrier. What is in game works just fine for the AI. Well except for the recent release of the Harrier, but it doesn't operate from the Stennis anyways. What the Stennis will be for the launch of the Hornet has yet to be divulged.
-
Nope. When the have an acronym for multiple-combined acronyms is when it gets retarded.

Will it come with training missions and campaign?
Revelation replied to fatboy's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
All of the DLC campaigns are protected and you should not be able to change aircraft - though admittedly I haven't tried. -
PC specs used for pre-release videos please
Revelation replied to TEMPEST.114's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Falcon Northwest Talon: i7 6770K, 32 GB RAM, GTX 1080ti, Windows 10, 1TB SSD, TM Warthog stick with extension / TWCS Throttle. -
The Legacy Hornet still has an automatic carrier landing system in place.

ED also has to look at performance versus graphics. I'm sure they could code a dynamic fluid simulation for the vapor effects to make them very life-like. The follow up question would then be, do you want 1 FPS or 2? As Donkey said, they will work on it over time.
