  1. It's quite complex indeed. Still struggling to fully understand it. I have been looking in the manual I thought I was setting acq to tads in the tads, but it is done in the weapons page, i don't fully grasp the difference between them yet, seems to work as intended as said, boresighting works fine with track ir as well no problems. do need to read some more manual to fully understand what is the difference between acq and the selection one can do when pressing tads in the camera view. apologies for calling it a bug earlier. i've been avoiding the manual too much, i was like pfff manual, i fly the ka-50 and some jets who needs a manual....i got this . I do the same with stuff from IKEA, first put it together if it fails blame IKEA, then read the manual and do it properly sorry guys... it was the ACQ
  2. I'll admit i have been a little frustrated with this module, and I havent fully read the entire manual yet. You are right ill adjust my posts, and try not to post out of frustration. The behaviour i get when slaving george seems to be different from when doing a cold start as when doing a hot start (and performing the boresight procedure is not needed). I think the square comes perfectly or almost perfectly over the crosshair when not having to boresight and i slave george to my view, but when i do boresight (eg on a cold start) it seems to be pretty far off? I
  3. nope not trying to show that. i am expecting george to look at where i tell him if i tell him to slave to my view, if u notice in the start i have the hellfire, but when i slave george is not looking at the right spot. I have already boresighted. because the last two missions george also fukked up by only calling engaging engaging and then doing nothing i start getting a little frustrated and i end up selecting the gun and rockets. anyway. the post is about georges aim being off on a cold start, i did the boresight procedure on start up. I have done this multiple times and georges aim will be off, you can't do the boresighting procedure properly if u use track ir. how about the ed test department get a track-ir set and test it? cold start, do the boresighting procedure using track ir, then try have george looking at where the pilot is looking using slave. a video of this would be very nice, so other people using track ir have a fix when a cold start is needed.
  4. did it on start up also, fail, tried to fix in flight, also fail, aim is way off.
  5. correct as is? I dont think so. Also i already did the boresight procedure on start up. In fact boresighting and using track-ir seems pretty broken to me. trying to fix it inflight also does not work. not that it matters much, george is pretty useless, i take his seat and do his job as well or things go sour. an option to exchange george for some extra fuel would be nice, or just leave him at the base would be nice. that way i can have more hellfires and a better flying helo as well. i dont know why the dude is in my helicopter...
  6. When george spots targets, you should be able to select multiple units from that list or the entire list, you should be able to tell george he should attack the selected targets (in the order you told him) in advance. now if george spots 20 infantry the pilot has to give george 20 times the command to search the area, and 20 times the command to engage 1 unit at a time. also giving george the options for weapons free is not an option because he will waiste most ammo, he should not be firing when he has weapons free but does not have a good shot/solution. george should be a better gunner, when piloting he should know how to cross a mountain ridge....
  7. i agree on that, unfortunately i have no one to be a gunner besides george, i don't know whats a bigger workload, trying to get george to work properly or take his seat and do it yourself. atm its a bit much, but i had the same feeling with the ka 50 14 years ago, flying it often helps a lot, still learning. One plus side, learning how to use the dcs trim for helo's is no small task either, but i have that down from learning the ka-50, once you get some forward momentum she is rock solid and flying her is very easy. coming from flight to a stable low hover and do it fast, is quite hard still need some practise on that. landing quickly i have that down too. Because it's all very new i lose some situational awareness at this point, but it will be better. hopefully george can take a bit of the workload better in the future.
  8. he doesn't need to search the area again, as he just did that, he should know where the targets are by now, you need to be able to pull that list instantly and tell george now get that tank for instance. Also when he has a list of targets you should be able to select multiple targets in advance and then george should eliminate/ attack the targets in that order. why would i need george, if i fly towards 20 infantry he needs to search 20 times. i can just take the gun and mow the 20 infantry down. you need a human gunner to be effective, with george in its current state its not very effective.
  9. as i recall it the track files are going to break after updates. especially if there are changes to the flight model. I can't count the times where i crashed in the track file but in reality never crashed. They don't always work as you would expect... I think making these track files is going to cost you a lot of time and the track files might become unusable quite fast.
  10. Well then good for George but in the military you take orders regardless if you're happy or not. I say George gets sent off to court martial and we get a cp that follows orders... It would be great to get that m16 functioning btw, It would be really useful to me .
  11. Don't get me wrong the Apache is indeed an amazing module, but since there are no force feedback cyclic sticks and pedals commercially available... controlling a helicopter in dcs is always going to feel completely different from the real thing, it is probably also what makes the Apache extra hard to fly The module is great ( George does need some work though),but i found out i just don't really enjoy the whole cumbersome experience, this chopper puts such a workload on you that it severely hurts situational awareness.
  12. That's right, I bought the module on patch 2.8. I've been watching videos on how to taxi and take off (because the training mission 2 doesn't work out so well in this patch.....), they where all pre-patch 2.8. So when i tried to taxi i noticed i had to give rudder the opposite way. this was very confusing. So i thought my installation was bugged at first (as i just installed it like an hour earlier, training mission gave trouble too....). But it has just been changes to the flight model.
  13. it was not, but people like to make that from it. M y issue was that I've seen video's of people all giving rudder left (push left pedal), I had to give right rudder (push right pedal). That was what worried me the most, I thought it bugged for me. I have the ka-50 for 15 years since day 1. And although she has less torque effects i know how Heli's works. You're the type of person that would have said exactly the same, 6 months ago if I said the flight model was off. Well it was off and that' s why they changed it, I just think they are not quite done.
  14. yeah, I guess after 15 years of flying the ka-50 with no problems we can state that the ka-50 is not a helicopter. (and yes i know the torque is less because of the double rotor) Maybe the Apache is fine and this is just how an Apache flies. If this is the case then the Apache is just not for me, and I prefer the hind or ka-50. Having a helo/plane with an ai is new for me too, not a fan of george the cpg so far, pilot george is ok, no problems there. On cold start up using track ir, the boresighting method wont always work (well the procedure will work, but george his view will be miles off when u slave him to where you are looking). I'll give it another try on release.
  15. Well i know that, the point is that is what the training mission is suggesting. Don't talk about trim or torque, just say to lock and the relock the tailwheel. then go taxi and take off. great training huh?
  16. A force feedback stick would be ideal for helo's, but your setup is fine (the rhino is a twisty stick? u need an axis for rudder with helo's). I know the apache looks awesome and has a great model, but if you don't own a helicopter then get the ka-50. she is way easier to fly and also easier to learn how the trim works in dcs (its not ideal). i found the apache not so enjoyable to fly, george as a cp is a disaster, the training missions are terrible and the apache needs a lot of work. It's to early to enjoy the apache in my opnion. i have had my fair share of x52 sticks and the all seem to break or get weird issues. best budget setup for dcs is the t1600 m package (that includes the rudders)
  17. It's hard, the Apache looks way cooler, has the nicer model, better sounds. Thing is, I did not really enjoy flying the Apache, both the Apache itself and George feel like a burden, the training missions where really bad, The feeling u get from the DCS Apache is not this feeling of a powerfull gunship but more the feeling of a sitting duck. The Ka-50 is much more enjoyable in my opinion. I wish George had an ejection seat that could be operated from the pilots cabin.
  18. No not at all, for instance the ka-50 is a great attack helicopter, great to fly. I actually regret buying the apache dlc too soon. a pain to fly, worst training mission of all the modules, and ...george. Don' t worry about the ai taking the human error out, it will put back 10 times more errors. trust me, having george is not an advantage.
  19. Same here, especially since i play solo, The-Ka50 handles a lot better, doesn' t have overcomplicated systems (that don't work properly, like boresightin calibration and track ir for instance). Another big frustration is the unintuitive way to control george ( system with jester was great, ed's system is NOT great , george as a c/p is a complete fail. ) All in all I really tried liking this module, but the reality is that the apache is a pain to fly, on top of that you get...george..the idiot gunner. The apache feels like flying a sitting duck. In multiplayer i found helicopters not very enjoyable either, it takes ages to get anywhere, meanwhile you are being bullied by jets, and you have to kill tons of groundunits to get some points. The apache looks great and the model and sounds are awesome don't get me wrong, but gameplay wise....not so much. I don't think there is a module in existence with worse training missions then this one.
  20. yes its possible, not very hard either. if you have mapped all buttons and "want to map more stuff (but lack buttons)" what u can do is add a modifier button, u sacrifice one button. but if u hold that button u can map 2 things on 1 button. for example normally button A would do function X, however if u hold the modifier button A will do function Y. i have the t1600 with rudder, later i got the warthog, but i am still using the rudder, and for it to work it goes via the t1600 throttle...i didnt really use the throttle because the warthog throttle is the obvious choice. but now it comes in handy! i was like damn that cp/g needs a <profanity>load of buttons i need a second handgrip....wait a minute! lol.
  21. thx, makes sense. Besides patches affecting track files i suspect it has an affect on the training missions as well. was worried that the module was behaving different for me but fortunately its not the case. however training mission 2 will probably become quite a challenge for most new apache pilots :).
  22. I haven't realised there was so much reaction on the post. For everyones info, i know that heli's dont fly itself. changing collective usually means a correction with rudder. In most tutorials i saw, i saw people talking about having to adjust with left rudder (i needed to adjust with right rudder). That is what worried me the most. In hindsight, maybe in the youtube tutorials, they kept the tailwheel locked, at about 40% collective you need some correction left. Also some patches might have changed things, i bought the module on patch 2.8. If you look at this take off by 'wags', I needed to do it different but probably because i was given the instruction to unlock and relock the tailwheel before pulling on the collective or because a patch changed the flight model or maybe a combination of both. I am not sure if the tailwheel is locked or unlocked in this video... conclusion: my module is probably working the same for as for anyone else. no need to worry. keep the tailwheel locked and go taxi first then unlock the tailwheel and correct ( which way depends on how much collective u give), unlocking the tailwheel on idle collective can be usefull if you want to turn in place :P. I think that training missions might be affected by patches in certain occasions.
  23. module broke for me as well, i get extreme yaw to the left instead of right when not even touching the collective (al controlls centered, need 60% right rudder trim to negate, whgat should be happening is a slight yaw to the right when pulling on the collective... to negate i should only need rudder trim of 25-30%, also the rudder pedals seems to be very far off unless u put some serious curves on the axis. long story short, i dont know what this is supposed to simulate but i am not interested in fantasy. i wish this module would work for me normally, i don't care if its hard, but i have zero interest in a simulation that uses fantasy flight models. the fact the my apache spins left instead of right as for other people breaks the complete game for me, i think most simmers can understand why.
  24. Check the manual or chuckies guides. Send the track file if u need help ;).
  25. 1) You can release CBUs in CCIP with Master Arm on only let me tell you another secret, you can't release any weapon unless master arm is on.
