Well I had a group of 4 Mig 29s comming in on finals and they did land...or at least two did, the other two looked like they were about too and then broke right, flew through the floor and then back into the sky again. Which is odd as far as I know the realisim is set to maximum, and I certainly pancake when I hit the ground. I am populating the "war zone" from different air bases, it's easier to manage. It's getting a little mad on the map at the moment, I am glad I re-watched your getting started tutorial and watched you hiding some items. Regards Paul

As Havner says don't give up. I got it, thought it was ok, but spending about half an hour on each game fine tuning it for that particular game (don't try and make a generic profile like I did, it won't end well) makes it something else. In LOMAC it's good, you will miss it when it's not there, in FS (and I assume BS) it's essential, no two ways about it, flying without it feels like your flying with a toilet roll over each eye. Two tips for you, pause and precision mode (not sure they keys as they are bound to my x52 now). They cause the TIR to pause or go into effectivly slow motion, this enables you to have the ability to quikcly look around your cockpit in dog fights, but also a more natural (slower) movement when not. I imagine the pause will be very usefull in BS and is usefull in FSX with the 3D clickable cockpits. At least in FS, when you put the mouse curser in the middle of the screen and then move your head the curser stays in the middle of the screen and not where you put the curser in a 2D plane of 3D space. So this can make pressing buttons in a 3D cockpit tricky, especially if they are the extremes of your movement as you will be moving your head ever so slightly, pausing TIR stops the movement, enabling you to click with ease, un pausing it picks up the readings again and points where your looking. If you have a programable joystick I suggest you map the Pause, Precision Mode and reset button all to it. Regards Paul

I'm becoming a serious fan of lockon...
DTWD replied to cobrabase's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Is that a picture of a book case on your wall? Regards Paul -
That is true, if I set the aircraft to start say 5 minutes before me will they still be on the base when I spawn in or do they have to be in the air? I already have aircraft landing, fly overs, orbits etc, it's looking pretty cool. What does look quite nice is that I picked that long line of airbases (if you split the map in two it's the bit on the left, in the middle of that there is a line of air bases running up) you can see aircraft con trails taking off from these bases, it looks really cool as your lining up for take off. According to Glowing Ammrams video BS has this kind of stuff as default, which will make life a little easier. Regards Paul

I was under the impression that the ATIs always worked better for LOMAC, something to do with the shaders or something. I think there might have been something wrong in your setup though because I am running on an 8800GT and I am not seeing single figure performance, the absolute lowest I get is now is just under 20 with a bit of tweaking I have done. Even saying that your seeing a big performance jump, and I know someone who has an nv280 and a CPU that's running nearly 1GHz faster than mine and they don't see anywhere near this kind of leap in performance. Regards Paul

Ah cool, thanks. Regards Paul

I see rattler mentions this timed take off I just asked about. Does anyone have any info on how to do that? Regards Paul

Yeah I could generate some of the aircraft in the air (it's what I am currently doing) but I just like the idea of an aircraft taking off from a base and joining the "war". I am STILL working through your tutorials (but with my own slant on them) and I noticed in one video you said you could setup loop points for the AI and it's ideal for refueling aircraft etc. Well I set the IL M or whatever it's called to take off and fly to a spot (starting with 100% fuel I think) and it flies off and starts it's loop, it appears to do one and then run off home. Now in your tutorial you said they will loop until they run out of fuel, is this likely to be the case as it ran out of fuel in the same amount of time as my su33 used half a tank. When I told one to fly straight and level it seemed to last a lot longer. Also (and these questions are open to everyone, sorry I keep picking on you Ironhand :D ) can you set things to take off at certain times? I am just thinking allowed as I type here and I haven't had a chance to try it yet. Regards Paul
-
Ironhand, Can I launch aircraft from different airbases at the same time? It's not exactly what I am after, but I think I can hack something together that will be alright if I can do that. Otherwise I think I found something for 1.13! :D Cheers Regards Paul

Morning...oh bugger...afternoon all! I have been pratting about with the some air bases trying to get a nice feel to them. I am sort of setting up a base template of aircraft at an airbase that I will use as my launching platform for mission I design. Basically I have several helecopters taking off, landing flying around etc. I have an AWACS on the runway ready for take off (and then taking off), a refueling aircraft on the ramp ready for take off and an SU25 that takes off and flies to another air base. This all seems fine in the mission editor but when it comes to running the thing I don't get everything. The SU25/Refuling aircraft/AWACS are all nowhere to be seen. My fly around helecopters are doing there job, and one chopper is on the grass powering up, it takes off, another one spawns in and it takes off. The spawning I can live with as they take off from the same point, but I can't understand why my fixed wings aren't anywhere to be found. I switched to one of the fly around choppers and there is no sign of them on the airbase at all! Also one of my take off choppers doesn't spawn in. Am I doing something wrong? Regards Paul

Oh yeah! It wasn't like that the other day, I just copied the page without looking. I wonder why it's discontinued, I hope they aren't making a new one without a wire! Regards Paul

Gary, I ordered from Flightstore: http://www.flightstore.co.uk/prod/TRACKIRU/ and it was shipped the following morning (I ordered it at about 2200) and I had it the following day from Royal Mail (I think). I can heartily recomend there service. Regards Paul

Are you talking about compression or something else? Regards Paul

Where did the forums go for about the last 20 hours? Regards Paul

Or 4th August 2008/9...and if that is so I will cry. Regards Paul

Maybe it's some subtle manipulation of the forum users. I wonder how many people choose 4808 as there pin number next time they are requested for it...oooh conspiracy. :D Oh and that image quite clearly says 4809. There could also be a pre-leading 0, but it could also be smudge. Regards Paul

Hawx is nothing more than the end of an era for Clancy games. We actually, as a community, should hate it and love it in equal measures. On one hand it gets new people into flight sims it could increase the people purchasing proper sims. But on the other it's such a bastardisation of our beloved hobby that it deserves to be "living on a farm all happy and running in the fields and chasing rabits" like our pet dogs that suddenly disapeared when we were young. It would be nice to get some idea of how ED plans on spending there time over the next few years, what takes priority new models full simmed up or the new engine, or are they both going to be developed along side each other? If the new engine really is a whole new engine does it mean ED have to re-engineer the Ka-50 sim in the new engine? How long will that take? Will the KA-50 drop straight into the new engine or are we going to be getting two versions? One like we have now and then another version in the new engine? I am assuming any new aircraft being added as flyable into the DCS will be modular and so thus can be easily added/removed just like the MS Flight Sim series? If so are we to be removing our BS install and adding a new one? Is it a free upgrade or do we pay again? Regards Paul

I can't imagine that it wouldn't be possible. In the end they are files on a computer, one way or another you will be able to open them, and if you can open them chances are you can save as them. Don't forget BS is also based on the LOMAC engine so it's probably the same process, which means you just replace the files. In fact I think FC plays OGGs and or waves, which ever it finds that matches the required name so you don't even have to be that precise. I haven't looked into it fully atm, but I am currently editing together some new sound effects for LOMAC/FC and that is a doddle. Regards Paul
-
None, I only started this LOMAC/FC lark a few months ago and I run Vista which as somone has already pointed out it's as solid as a rock now it's patched properly. Regards Paul

It sounds like the numbers entered into the FOV settings (one of the tabs in LoCFG) have too many decimal places. Go into the FOV settings and set them to any number around what it's currently at, or set them to default. It's possible that the sliders and or settings aren't set to anything or are set to extreme values because it can't understand the values in the CFG file. If you press the default button be aware it may change ALL of the other settings set in LoCFG, so be careful. I am also not 100% on this either so don't hate me if you destroy your settings and it doesn't fix it. One quick question though, what's "FPS TWEAK FOR LOCK ON FC 1.1xx v2.0G4A1"? Regards Paul
-
I see, yeah having that Flag clickable at the top is a bit of a navigation hicup I would look at fixing. Regards Paul

Are we going to get the english manual as promissed?
DTWD replied to pagadi-zaiet's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Is there really any point in releasing what will most likely only be a reference guide? There is only so much you can say about the gui, unless of course it's the KA-50's cockpit to which the manual refers. Also isn't this just helping the people who have pirated it? Surely it's best to not release anything until about a week (at most) before the demo? Regards Paul -
Nice, but how do I switch to English? That flag at the top doesn't do anything but refresh the page...and I do hope you haven't commited the sin of putting an American flag for the English language...:D Regards Paul
