You are completely right. But I am, too.
I used the word "germanize" for the conversion from MiG-29A and UB to G and GT (the "German" versions).
And before "westernization", which took part in the early 1990s, actually only the nationality markings were changed, from the GDR flag to the Iron Cross. Cockpit stayed basically the same initially. When I remember right, the very first change was that the wife of one of our former East German pilots spoke the voice messages new (I even can't remember if in German or English. Later the voice messages were in English). And the laser range finder was also disabled very fast.
I checked my flight log and found that my first flight in a Luftwaffe FULCRUM was in an UB in 1994 and only from 1995 on I see GTs. But compared to my two flights in GDR UBs I think the gauges already were changed from the metric system, even as the "westernization" was not done in full extent yet (sorry, I can't remember everything precisely, it's three decades from now).
