  1. did they change the P-51 sound at all? Engine or Guns?
  2. Agreed. The gun sounds were so weak before. I just watched Dunkirk and was wishing the guns sounded like that in DCS. When I logged in I was surprised to find that they now do! The explosions are something I've been wanting for a looong time. Can't wait till they work for bombs. I REALLY hope FLIR is the next up for a makeover.
  3. If I set "Random System Failures" in the main menu, does it enable failures across all scenarios (campaign, instant action, Multiplayer)? Also do failures work in multiplayer? Are they tied to the server or is it dependent on your menu setting? THIS QUESTION IS NOT ABOUT MISSION BUILDING, ITS ABOUT "DCS WORLD 1.5 & 2.0 OPEN ALPHA".
  4. If I set "Random System Failures" in the main menu, does it enable failures across all scenarios (campaign, instant action, Multiplayer). Do I have to set those failures in every mission or will the menu option give a potential for failures despite the ME? Also do failures work in multiplayer? Are they tied to the server or is it dependent on your menu setting?
  5. THIS ISNT A THREAD ABOUT MISSION BUILDING. IT'S A QUESTION ABOUT HOW A GAME SYSTEM WORKS
  6. If I set "Random System Failures" in the main menu, does it enable failures across all scenarios (campaign, instant action, Multiplayer). I know in the mission editor you can force failure parameters but I don't know how that relates to the menu option. Do I have to set those failures in every mission or will the menu option give a potential for failures despite the ME? Also do failures work in multiplayer? Are they tied to the server or is it dependent on your menu setting?
  7. I agree completely. The DCE for the Tiger is one of the best ways to experience DCS in my opinion. I'd love to see it integrated into DCS and expanded upon.
  8. I don't think he'd be making a guide yet anyway. The jet is only about half-finished as far as the systems are concerned. There's just way too much that's "not yet implemented" to make the quality guide he's known for.
  9. So... is the Harrier going live on 2.1 and stable branch today as well?? I'm not downloading beta just to use one plane...
  10. What the crap? I didn't know that wasn't implemented in DCS... Wow that's dumb.
  11. I didn't expect to be that impressed. All I can say is WOW! That looks like a different game.
  12. wow, I've been waiting for this since I read they were looking to hire an FX guy for explosions. Really impressive! The current system has always been a huge letdown for me. Sucks to show friends how amazing the A-10 is, only to be visually impotent on ordnance delivery. This is a HUGE improvement. Glad to see ED showing off a bit.
  13. Wow. I just popped in here to see if anyone had made a decent Normandy mission lately. This is more than I expected! Thanks for the effort!
  14. I just bought a new Samsung CF791 monitor mainly for the purposes of DCS. I'll just start by saying I've now seen things I never knew existed, the monitor is unbelievable. One problem that I honestly never even noticed before is banding. When looking at the sky, especially at dawn and dusk, the sky's gradient is separated into bands of color that are really distracting. I guess one problem with a better viewing device, imperfections stand out more. Is this immediately correctable? If not, is it something that ED recognizes and plans to patch? To my mind it's a pretty big oversight.
  15. Good to hear. Btw I love this plane! Very unique.
  16. I just bought the Viggen and flew around Georgia to orient myself to the plane. I then used it in Nevada with the stunning graphical improvements that 2.1.1 offers. One giant issue though is the insane amount of glare on the HUD reflector. It isn't glare from the sun, it's created by the HUD projection itself. I was able to reduce the brightness so that I could somewhat see the markers through the glare but I'm still amazed at how bad it is. The A10c has similar issues in 2.1 but the Viggen seems to be much worse. I assume this is a side-effect of Deferred Shading (which I love for the most part). I have a feeling I could turn it off and fix the problem for now. I just wanted to see if this was a concern to HeatBlur and other users of the Viggen (I couldn't find much info about this through Google). I understand this is all early access and I'm not angry with the dev or any of that bs, I'm simply looking to be assured that this is not working as intended and will be corrected soon.
  17. I agree the glare is annoying at times but I'm pretty sure real pilots think the exact same thing. If its a problem that pilots face in RL, it's a problem I prefer to face in the sim.
  18. That was a thorough reply. Lots of good info there. I think altitude floor limits on certain SAM systems would be a pretty simple fix for now. I know ED has created DCS as a long-term platform that is continually evolving. I can only hope that proper Anti-Air is one of the many facets of warfare that they will improve as the sim continues its development.
  19. wtf... that would blow my mind to launch a Maverick and have that be the resulting explosion. That can't happen fast enough for me. Ground explosions are a really underwhelming part of DCS.

  21. Thanks for the feedback. I thought it may be proper behavior for older SAMs but couldn't really imagine that being a useful tactic with more advanced hardware. Good to know that certain models do have some sort of terrain-avoidance. If this is a valid tactic against most SAM sites in DCS does it also work against A2A missiles? I assume it would be more difficult based on trajectories from altitude vs SAMs on the ground but it would be good to know. I guess it would depend on the missiles guidance being lead or pursuit trajectory.
  22. I'm a fairly new player, been at this for 2-3 months (and loving it). I was watching Ralfi demo a forthcoming campaign where he avoids SAMs by altering their trajectory into the dirt. I feel fairly certain this is wildly unrealistic in most versions of SAMs. If I'm wrong please correct me. Is this something that ED is planning on changing or are people generally content to have semi-worthless air defense missiles? AAAs on the other hand work quite well so it seems to me that this is an error in programming rather than a designed inadequacy.
  23. I love the escort missions. Question: should we be using AWACS in a WW2 setting? I guess it can simulate ground radar stations but I don't even know how accurate that would be. As far as I knew ground radar was mainly for defense scrambles. I'm not sure it was ever communicated to pilots that they should be looking out for a particular enemy while they were themselves already in the air! Maybe i'm wrong though.
