I'm glad to hear you guys are making this a regular weekend event. I had a blast last weekend. If I have time, I'll be there. :) -Mack

If you have track-ir plugged into a USB hub, remove it from the hub and plug it directly into your computer... Track-ir doesn't like hubs, in my experiance... It's just a hunch though. -Mack

Hi Guys, Thanks for the advice... After a few hours of messing around I managed to make it work. The only downside is I have to set the windows control panel to show the monitors in the opposite order of what they actually are... Not sure why that is, but it's a minor inconvenience... Happy New Year folks, -Mack

Has anybody ever successfully setup multi-monitors with a vertical monitor config? I've got 2 new Acer 23" Touchscreens I'm working on setting up. I've got the main screen on the bottom and the secondary on the top. They're both 1920 X 1080 native resolution. My desk space is limited so side by side isn't an option. Looking to have the main camera on the lower screen and abris/skval on top with TouchPal. I've searched the WIKI page, but all the examples are for horizontal configs, IE monitors placed side by side, not one on top of the other. Any idea's are welcome... Or is this even possible? Thanks, Mack

Hannibal, is that one of the new Acer 23" touch screens in the pic? If so, how do you like it? -Mack

Running 2 OCZ Agility 120 GB SSD's in RAID0 here and loving it... Main difference is load times. All my games launch and load levels much much faster than my old mechanical hard drive ever did. Some games, like Dragon Age for instance that used to take forever to load between maps, now take only a second or two. When launching games, it's as if I've just maximized them from a minimized state. I still use one 500 GB Mechanical drive for data, music, etc but all my apps are on the SSD's. Not for the faint of heart cost wise, yet.... Hopefully prices will continue to decline. -Mack

Of course, now I have to eat my words as the ISP is down... Sorry about that. -Mack

Dragon - I have to give you kudos for the missions! I played a few this weekend while testing the GameGroundz server and your missions are great! Alot of fun and very immersive! Keep up the excellent work! We are happy to be hosting your maps on the GameGroundz dedicated server. :)

There's a new open/dedicated server in the USA, we just finished setting up yesterday called "GameGroundz". Give it a whirl if you want. We are hosting Dragons map pack, which is really great. We had between 4 and 6 people in there on and off most of the weekend. -Mack

Strange - the server musta been down when I tried last night. It's all good now. :) Thanks! -Mack

Trying to download Dragon's latest map pack - but the link is dead...? Anybody else having this issue?

+1 to Dooom... That's been irritating me for a while. Much appreciated. :) -Mack

Nice to see a fellow Canadian on here. I'll PM you some contact info and we can see about flying online sometime. I agree with your points and also want to point out that I think a Study Sim like Blackshark, attracts a more mature audience (for the majority), and thus folks of said maturity may not dedicate as much time to simming as say a young teen would to CoD4 or something like that. I would imagine alot of us may have other obligations that keep us from enjoying our hobbys as much. Thus the smaller # of servers online at given times of the day/week. This is in no way meant to offend any of the younger folks that enjoy this sim. Just a point that I think deserves being mentioned. :) -Mack

There were 9 of us in the DFA server on Monday night. We had a blast.

Thanks Kurtz - I'll check that out. Cheers! -Mack

Hi Folks, I'm thinking of setting up a small server in the next month or two, for friends and the DCS community in general, to enjoy. I'm switching to a new DSL provider that does not do any type of network throttling. With my current provider I've discovered that they feel the need to throttle my connection if more than two people try to connect to my blackshark server and download a map. I suspect DCS is using some sort of p2p protocol for the map transfer. (And no, I'm not doing any of that in the background which would cause the throttling) Anyways, my real question is this: I'm not a map maker. I have no time to get into doing this since I'm working most of the time, and the time I do have off I prefer to spend flying instead of making maps. So I was wondering if there's a community map pack available that I could host on my server for 4-8 player co-op rounds. Of course I'd be happy to credit the map makers for their work. This is the only thing stopping me from hosting a server (other than my connection, which is changing soon), as I fear getting flak from a map maker for hosting "their maps" on "my server". I don't want to make bad friends with any of the DCS community. You guys are all stand-up guys, so I want to do this without ticking anyone off! Regards, Mack

How to improve FPS with my GeForce GTX 260?
MackTheKnight replied to Speed_2's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I hate to break this to you man, but AFAIK the Intel i7 920 is far superior to any AMD Phenom processor. The i7 also has hyper-threading, so essentially Windows sees it as an 8 core processor (four physical, four virtual). It also uses DDR3 memory which will make a big difference as well. I would think you can safely assume the main cause of the FPS difference between your friends PC and your own, is the processor and Intel architecture. But, on the other side of the coin - is your FPS playable? Would you have noticed the difference if you didn't turn on the FPS Counter? IMHO if your game appears smooth to you and a few less FPS isn't making the KA50 unflyable, why worry? -Mack -
Mission: Danger Close (SP/MP)
MackTheKnight replied to MBot's topic in User Created Missions General
I can't seem to dload it either. -
This may sound like a strange question, but what kind of mouse do you have? I've a buddy who has an MS Sidewinder mouse and DCS 1.01 crashes just like you described, when he has it attached. If he plugs in his Logitech G5, DCS works fine. It's a long shot, but if you've got a sidewinder mouse, try a different brand and report back with your findings...

Ahh, good ol' DOS :) I do the same thing... c:\games\blackshark :)

1.01 running in Win 7 X64 Ultimate, Build 7100 here. No issues at all. ED has done a fantastic job with the patch. The whole sim is running smoother now and the new trim option is fantastic.
