Question about rare weapons in multiplayer
MackTheKnight replied to ECV56_Tordo's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Looking forward to 1.01 patch to clean the cheaters out of the sky. I haven't flown in a public server for couple months, as the last time the entire group I was flying with kept getting tk'd by an "Unknown" player with a similar loadout to that. Until 1.01 - Private servers are the way to go, imo... -
Speaking from experiance here... Go with the i7 920 - you will not be dissappointed. Just make sure you get good 1600 MHZ DDR3 RAM to go with. (Or faster, if you have the budget) I'm running 6 gb of OCZ Gold and it's running like a champ! i7 920 runs stock at 2.4 ghz, if memory serves. Mine is OC'd to 3.0 ghz with the stock cooler. CPU temperture does not exceed 36C under full load. I have a GTX280 for graphics, which I won't consider upgrading until the DX11 cards hit the market. Blackshark avg. FPS of 55 over the city - can't argue with that. :) All settings maxed out, of course. Also make sure you run Vista or Windows 7 64 bit if you go with that much memory, or you won't be able to address it all. Happy upgrading! :)

24mbps would be heaven! I thought 5 was amazing when I got it, as before it I only had 2 mbps but it generally ran around 700kbps. I've never heard of anything faster than 10 mbps in this Region. I guess we are behind the times. 100/100 fiber!?!? What a tease! :megalol: 'tis a shame ROF was delayed a bit more, but it'll be worth the wait I think. I too haven't played a good WWI Flight Sim, since RedBaron on my ol' 486DX. -Mack

I'm running it on Windows 7 64 bit. Just had to update the Starforce drivers as suggested in previous posts, and it's working great! :)

I see your point and feel your pain. I used to be on an RF Wireless internet provider and it was up and down like a yo-yo. Thankfully I moved and am now on a very stable 5mbit DSL line that I've no complaints about. I can certainly see your point about the always-on requirement for this particular DRM. It would be impossible to play, in your circumstances. Hopefully the Rise Of Flight developers will realize the kind of problems this will cause for people and change their DRM to some sort of check-in method that reserves it for a week or two at a time, similar to how the dvd check was done with Flaming Cliffs. I would think this would make more sense from a business perspective as it could reduce support calls. Just a thought and a prayer... :noexpression:

+1, Polecat - My thoughts exactly. We need to support the sim community. DRM sucks but you can't blame them for wanting to protect their product! I believe the NA release is still set for this Wednesday (June 17th, 2009). I've never dealt with FSPilotShop before, so here's hoping that they ship things in a timely manner. :)
-
I appreciate you guys posting info about this, as I was not aware of Rise Of Flight. I've pre-ordered a copy. As far as DRM goes, I don't really like it either but if we don't support these niche companys that are creating these sims, they will die out entirely. Then what will we do? The game looks superb from what I can see and looks like the release date is set for June 17th, 2009. Finally a successor to Red Baron 3D!

Appologies for continuing the off topic, but I've seen no issues with rearm/reload or any maintenance command under windows 7. Perhaps its caused by some other issue, like the farp not having the means to do the work... :music_whistling:

Ahh, nice to see someone agrees with me! :) Same experiances here, Tiger.
-
Nice. :) I hope they do include it. I have seen the crash on ending a large mp mission as well, although it's not consistant.
-
I guess I'm the exception to the rule, as I would not go back to 32 bit. I've not seen the slight loss of performance that PoleCat refers to and I've actually experianced increased stability, rather than decreased. Each to his own, I suppose. :) As for me, I'm happy with my 64bits and don't see any point in dual-booting a 32bit OS anymore. I used to dual-boot XP 32/64 bit, due to the compatability issues but those issues have all been resolved with Windows Vista & 7, for me... Ram, I hope you enjoy your adventures with Windows 7 as much as I have. :joystick: -Mack

I agree with Panzertard, 64 bit is the way to go. 32 Bit doesn't cut it anymore. Especially with the standard amount of RAM reaching 4 gb and beyond. (keep in mind this is total pc ram, including video ram) 32 bit can only see and utilize 3 gb of ram so if you have 2 gb on your mobo and 1 gb on your graphics card, you are at the limit for 32 bit. In my system I'm running 6 GB of RAM on the mobo and 1 GB on the video card, for a total of 7. If I were to use a 32 bit OS, I'd be wasting alot of hardware. My 2 cents, Mack

I've been running Windows 7 64 Bit since the first public beta release and am now on RC1. I've yet to find a game that won't run on it. Some require a bit of tweaking, but I've managed to make all my games work. Including good ol' IL2 1946 & LOMAC FC. Polecat is right on about the Windows XP Compatability. It is mainly directed to businesses that are still running legacy applications for lab equipment and the like.

IMHO it'd be well worth it, as you're not really spending or losing any money on it. The new hard drive, you could move to your new build when you get there. Windows 7 RC1 is free until March 2010, and time is always well spent, getting familiar with new software/technology. Plus you should see an improvement in framerate, if you use DCSMax. Bonus! :)

I agree the fragmentation of the S8's is rather weak, however in general I find them to be rather powerful if aimed carefully. I've taken out a few Abrhams tanks with those things before. I was very surprised the first time, as I don't think that's possible IRL, or is it?

Got my English copy from a retailer out of Montreal, via Ebay. Check it out here> http://cgi.ebay.ca/DCS-Black-Shark-PC-Games_W0QQitemZ280349057963QQcmdZViewItemQQptZVideo_Games_Games?hash=item41461b23ab&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14&_trkparms=%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A30

Nice to see another Canadian learning the Shark. :) I fly multiplayer but due to job, etc. I'm more of a weekend warrior. :) PM me if you want to fly together sometime. Or if you need help with learning anything I might be able to help a bit. In my case, I learned to fly the shark online with a couple of buddies who were learning it at the same time. It's nice to put a couple heads together when trying to figure the ol' bird out. :) -Mack

Can your PC run BS with no related issues?

It was indeed one of those "unknown" players lurking on the server. No idea how he managed to arm and fire R77's but he did.... managed at least 6 kills that way (Most of them, me) before I got frustrated and bailed the server. I kept thinking to myself "where the heck is this guy" before I realized he was using long-range R77's. Before I could even get in range I was a fireball. So that being said - some sort of feature where a person could be auto-banned when killing someone with out of spec ordinance, would be a great asset to the multiplayer engine. Add it to the wish-list I suppose. :) Thanks all, Mack
-
Hi Gang, Just curious is it possible in BS for someone to be banned from a server for using an invalid load-out? Wondering, as I was in a blue vs red server tonight and the guy getting all the kills was doing so with R77's, which in the real world and in vanilla/unhacked DCS: BlackShark, can't be done. Regards, Mack

I agree with you there. ED should definatly make sure that gets updated in the patch, but still. The review makes it sound, to the uneducated person who's checking out the review before they buy the game, that if they have Vista they shouldn't even bother trying. And that's just rather sad, IMHO as I'd hate to see someone miss out on this amazing sim due to incorrect info about the games performance on Vista.
-
Good review, but I couldn't let the Vista thing go un-mentioned and posted a comment stating the opposite... I've run this game on Vista 32 bit, Windows 7 32 bit and Windows 7 64 bit with no issues at all. Even in the GOW campaigns. I hope they update the review and take that non-sense out as I'd hate to see ED lose business over the so called issues with Vista. The author really should have tested it himself before passing judgement.

Thanks, Spike - I just ordered a boxed version from them as well. Cheers, Mack

Yes, it is possible and very handy, to boot. :) 1. save the recieved DL target. 2. Reset your shval 3. Select your desired target on the datalink panel 4. Press the yellow "Ingress" button on the datalink panel (If memory serves I think that is what it's called. When you click this the light on the datalink button you clicked in the previous step should go out. 5. Uncage your shval (make sure your HMS is disabled). As long as you're facing in the targets general direction, your shval should automatically slew to the given target. Enjoy. :) Edit - Ya beat me to the punch, ReOrdain. :)
