Yea I thought so too. The Odyssey isn't as comfortable as the rift. It squeezes my nose a bit too much but the magic spot where you can see everything clear is easier to find than in the rift. I saw people returning the Odyssey + because they said it wasn't comfortable. So I'm definitely waiting for the next gen.

What's the difference with the Odyssey+ ? I don't notice much screen door effect with my Odyssey. Whereas it's more apparent in my Rift.

I will say that before I got VR I had track IR. Before I had track IR I barely flew in DCS. It just was too difficult. Track IR was fine but jumpy because I could never find the right curves. Also even with better VR hardware I hope ED will optimize DCS a little better. I feel like the Odyssey is pretty good in resolution and it can only get better from here. Also with any computer hardware, there's always a new version coming so waiting isn't always the best option unless price is ridiculous. Example: 2080ti vs 1080ti only 20% better in traditional performance but 50% more expensive.

I finally was able to release my Mavericks yesterday. I ended up taking out three tanks and didn't realize that you are suppose to fire when the instructor tells you to press the pickle button. Thus all I had left was the laser mav which I didn't get to use because the tutorial instructions were still waiting for me to press fire on the IR Maverick. Will try out the guns and rockets tutorial later when I get a chance. These are gonna end up being some great tutorials which I feel are much needed for this airframe.

Those are all good points. The competitive crowd is similar to those that play competitive fps games. They rather have the raw performance compared to immersion. Similar to for example playing battlefield V on a 144hz gsync monitor compared to 60hz because it offers better performance and smoothness if your rig can handle it. I had a 27 inch 144hz panel and switched to a 34 inch 120hz gsync wide screen. For me that's more immersive when playing non VR games. I also find the widescreen more useful when I work from home. I can write my code, have outlook and several other tools open with no shortage of screen space on my monitor. But 90% of the time when I use my Odyssey I'm flying in DCS. I don't see myself going back to monitor for DCS. When gen 2.0 headsets come out I'll be the first to get one because I enjoy DCS so much more with it. I'm still waiting to see when google and LG are suppose to release their headset. It's suppose to have really good resolution. I kind of wish I had pre-order a pie max after watching Jabbers review of one. Now they are quite pricey. But for me, I would only use it for DCS. I find that my rift is much more comfortable in terms of headset and controllers when it comes to not flying DCS. Edit: Those missions sound interesting. I do have the PG map and the hornet. I'm nowhere proficient with the jet yet. My long time flight hours were mainly in the A10c before the hornet came out. I really hope they do update the cockpit textures in the A10. The hornet cockpit looks much nicer in VR.

Check out VR lens lab if you want to have custom lenses created for your rift. This one here is for the Samsung Odyssey and I have not ordered any yet because next month I go in to renew my contacts so I'll ask for all the details regarding my glasses which I just wear when I'm home. https://widmovr.com/product/odyssey-prescription-lens-adapters/ Your eye doc should be able to provide those numbers for you. Just posting it in case people didn't know about it. Sometimes I wanna do a late night flight but after having my contacts in all day it makes it tough. Having these lense adapter could make that possible.

I'd say it's worth it if your PC can handle it. I used to have a rift, still do in the closet. I use the Samsung Odyssey now. Resolution is fine and clear for me mostly except for the harrier. Can't wait to get better vr equipment later. One thing is I have everything on high with PD of 1.5 and it runs pretty smooth. Sure it could be better but it's much nicer compared to track IR. ED just needs to optimize VR better. I have played other vr Sims and games and dcs optimization feels a bit lacking so I had to compromise with setting some things lower than others like shadows and msaa. For those saying they cant see the mfd's, a PD of 1.5 with the right settings on high vs shadows low and civilian traffic off, less smoke density will make it better to use a higher PD. But I also wonder if people flying in VR had their eye exams lately because when i first got the rift I didn't have my contacts in and I could not make out text easily at all. Always had to zoom. Wasn't happy and felt like I wasn't seeing it how it's suppose to be portrayed. Since I wear my contacts now all the time everything is crystal clear at least in the Odyssey. I only have to use the zoom in the harrier and other cramped Jets like the mirage.

Tried out the Mavericks and sidearm mission. Did both the long and short versions. So one thing I think should be tweaked is maybe try to cover the use of the dmt and Maverick target pod during the ride to waypoint 1. Or pop the smoke when you are in the middle of waypoint two and start discussing how to slew the dmt and other functions when the smoke is visible in the area. What happens is we start getting instructions pretty soon after we reach waypoint 2 to uncage and slew the Maverick/DMT to a Target but there is no smoke showing up until you are pretty close to the target area. This confuses the pilot because now you have to reset everything and slew to the correct area with the dmt then slave to the Maverick. Then we are given more instructions while very close to the target area and I think a newcomer would have issues following all the commands at first. I circled around and was able to pick a truck on the airfield with the dmt. But then I pressed tms up once to change to irmav. Pressing tdc did not lock the mav crosshairs for me. This is probably because we were never told to select master arm on. Although I tried it again with master arm mode on and ready status Mavericks but my tdc action button didn't lock the target up for a firing solution. I think it's very informational and covers a lot. Everything is there I think the timing on when to cover what instructions could be a little better. Maybe have the mission active pause when we get to see the smoke and go over the selecting a Target and slewing controls there. Otherwise by the time I start seeing the smoke on the airfield, I feel too close to follow all the instructions for targeting with the systems and acquiring a lock. I recommend others use an actual slew control with axis too. Using the tdc left, right, etc makes slewing extremely difficult. I'm using the slew nub on my warthog throttle and I probably need to tweak the sensitivity a bit as well as invert the y axis.

Tried the new startup tutorial. I hope later they can make the cockpit a bit more readable in VR. The tutorial does a good job of explaining all the instructions. There are times where the voice over continues without you hitting a switch, for example when checking the fuel system and when inputting coordinates in the UFC. I set the north coordinates and hit enter and then the instructions came through to put in the coordinates for east. But they continued on about the magnetic variation instead waiting until I had pressed enter on the UFC. Overall I think it works great, some highlights didn't go away until later for example the canopy highlight to close it. I think the directions for the mpcd's should be a little slower and wait until user clicks the appropriate buttons. I got a little lost when asked to cycle controls and set stabilizer trim values as I was still on the engine bit failures page. But I'm at least glad to have a working proper starting tutorial which I'll need to do many times over as I have been out of the harrier for a while. Thanks for posting these and great work!

That's odd considering one of their main selling points was they redesigned it for comfort. I have the original Odyssey and the fit is fine although it's less comfortable and fitting than my rift.

Also did you use heavy springs in the base for the warthog grip?

Samsung Odyssey VR Headset Revealed with “Anti-SDE” Display
sze5003 replied to rjetster1's topic in Virtual Reality
Some of the articles that first came out said something like that.. resolution, comfort and sde improvements but it's actually the same resolution. Since there isn't an oculus 2.0 coming they figured it's safe to put out there to sell for now. -
It's suppose to minimize screen door effect. But I don't notice it much anyway on mine.
-
Since I already have the Odyssey I'm not getting the plus as the resolution is the same. Besides comfort and anti sde I don't see the reason to pay for it again.

Announcement - new A-10C DLC training campaign
sze5003 replied to baltic_dragon's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I have all the A10 maple flag campaigns. I passed all of them except the tactical one. I think I'm on mission 23 of the tactical one and got stuck for good. The maple flag missions are not training at all. They are qualification exams. I did run into some issues with them. But without someone else youtubing their journey through them I would not have known the criteria for passing them. Unfortunately that person did not complete them all either. -

sze5003 replied to baltic_dragon's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Thing is the missions are super complex and flow off one another. It will probably require a bit more work to release half of them and disconnect the training flow to make it a smooth transition. They aren't simple missions they are interactive and depending on your input and several other triggers being done correctly, with real voice overs. Whichever they decide to do I'm fine with it. But I think completing it and then releasing it feel like the right thing to do not just do it now quickly because people are impatient. -
Samsung Odyssey VR Headset Revealed with “Anti-SDE” Display
sze5003 replied to rjetster1's topic in Virtual Reality
I would only get one if I could trade in my original Odyssey. Screen resolution is the same in the end. It's like oh we screwed up on the comfort part so let's make them pay for it again by adding something else to it too. It does squeeze my nose quite a but but doesn't have issues staying on my head. -
Samsung Odyssey VR Headset Revealed with “Anti-SDE” Display
sze5003 replied to rjetster1's topic in Virtual Reality
It's available now in the US for $499 but I'm not sure what the difference would be for me compared the the original Odyssey. I have both the rift and the Odyssey and would hate to have 3 headsets, running out of room to store crap. -
Announcement - new A-10C DLC training campaign
sze5003 replied to baltic_dragon's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Yea since it's a training campaigns it's meant to be sequential and pick up one mission after another. Some parts will be longer than others. I know people want something to fly now but having it all out at once makes more sense. The amount of work and detail that has gone into this a10 training campaign is superb from what I've tested a while back. Those of you that want something to go through now try out the mirage red flag campaign it's very interactive and a good addition to the main mirage campaign. -

Been a while since I've been in the hog. So when this is out it will be so refreshing to learn everything properly. Hope you and the rest of the team are doing well. -
I took a look at vkb software and it looks more confusing than virpil's if you use the actual one the developers reccomend and not the simplified version thats made by someone else.
-
I'm running a 1080ti, i7 8700k, 32gb of ram so you can use this for reference. Installed on an SSD and using the samsung odyssey. I use pixel density 1.5, everything set to high except shadows(medium) and civ traffic off. Grass and clutter I have the sliders close to the left but not completely off. Global shadows default, and I think 2x msaa. Preload radius all the way up. I get pretty smooth performance single player and online on the hoggit server.

Yea I got home from work and it was sitting there next to my door. The area is pretty nice and there is a small roof over the door of the apartment so I guess they thought it was fine to leave it. Had it been my previous apartment, it would have been stolen.
