[Official] SimShaker for Aviators
sze5003 replied to f4l0's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
There is a ssa beta version you can run. I forget the location of where to get it, but I think you can find it on the Facebook page or search the thread here. -
That's good to know I won't need to mess with firmware, thanks! I'll have a look at the guides on the site and I'm sure I'll have more questions as time goes by with my usage.
-
Finally was able to get a mcg pro tabletop bundle. Will be here soon. I was having a look at the website and software available. Should I just go by the latest dates on the page? So all I should download is VKBDevCfg latest date available? And the black box firmware ? Also vkbButton tester latest edition? Also when I recalibrate in the future will I ever have to redo all by dcs bindings? For some reason on my vpc stick when I recalibrate windows reads the id as a new device. As for the dry clutches, since I like my stick returning to center I guess I need to tighten the dry clutches on both sides and test before plugging in to set up firmware?

The A10c isn't that bad. Put that couch in orbit and add a next waypoint with one button then enter the coordinates using the cdu keyboard. The hardest part for me is I fly in VR so I'd have to memorize the coordinates quickly. I'm glad to have jester for my single player stuff, which will make things a lot easier assuming the wheel is simple to operate in VR.

I think they mentioned something last week about some sort of update. But I don't think it's important. Let them focus on their work and we will get it when we get it. You know it will be good too so it will be worth the wait.

Redkite's videos, crash Laobi's videos, Chuck's guide for controls setup and simpler explanations. This is a study sim so I prefer the longer YouTube videos. It's not really an arcade game. Baltic dragon mentioned in a post above about interactive training missions. All of this should get you going. Also join the hoggit discord channel and ask people to fly with you they are very helpful.

Any experience with Samsung Odyssey Plus & DCS yet?
sze5003 replied to fargo007's topic in Virtual Reality
I have the original Odyssey and I too get pain across my forehead when flying for a while. I didn't think to use one of these bands. I tried loosening the headset and not turning the wheel in the back so much but it's not much of a change. Some people took the padding out and used different padding. For me it squeezes my nose and I had to take the flaps and stick them inside by the lenses. Ashame that the O+ said it would be more comfortable. Doesn't seem like it. I'm waiting for rift 2.0 or whatever google and LG come out with. I still have my rift boxed up but I didn't like having sensors on my desk. -
I guess I was thinking it would make me sound like a bad fan. I jumped on the hornet pre order I think a week or two before it was suppose to become available. It just made the wait for me feel less longer if that makes any sense. I know heatblur does great work because I bought the viggen randomly and was surprised how authentic and detailed it felt, which encouraged me to learn it and enjoy it more.
-
Appreciate the info. I know it may sound bad but I want to wait until almost the last possible time to pre order so then I don't feel like I'm waiting any longer. Love the previews I've seen so far!

These are my settings for VR with a PD of 1.5 if anyone wants to try them out. Runs smoothly enough for me on the Odyssey. Hopefully it helps someone out. I know I got tired of messing with settings to try to get the best visual/performance for a while.

Trim is very slow with full flaps. You have to hold the trim button for it to move a little bit. I find it more trouble to use the trim in AAR since it is so slow it screws you up. I should swap to my warthog grip because it's heavier than the MT-50 so I might be able to make finer adjustments that way. The MT-50 grip is very light plastic and I think it's throwing me off because sometimes I end up moving the base too in VR.
-
I'll be trying to get one of these Monday. I have a warbrd base and mt-50 right now because I wanted the ability to use the warthog grip but I still have not used it much on there. Curious of the differences between the two so I'm looking forward to owning both. I used heavy springs on the warbrd but it's better suited for the heavier warthog grip not a lighter grip so I think I'll stick with the stock vkb springs on the gunfighter when I finally can grab one.

Has anyone tried the warthog throttle curves here ? https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=214802 I'm going to give them a try when I'm home to see if it helps. I don't have that many issues as long as the tanker is flying straight it's when he constantly banks before I connect that throws me off. Obviously trying to keep speed by moving through throttle will create a bit of PIO which is why I feel the curves may be necessary, at least for me. For some odd reason I find carrier landing and refueling the A10C easier.
-
True, each person has a technique that works for them. For me I forgot what it was because I have not flown in a while. But at one point I did have some technique I used and connected each time as long as the tanker was straight and level. I'll have to figure out the throttle curves to make them smoother. I was doing the AAR mission from this campaign and the tanker ends up banking a lot. He's also at 228 knots which seems ok but also feel very slow. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3302808/ The biggest thing I notice is I need to relax myself and not get frustrated or nervous. That is when I end up screwing up.
-
After some time I managed to connect. But not for long mainly because the guy starts turning as soon as I'm nice and stable about 2 meters from the basket haha. The throttle does take a while to get used to once you come back to refueling. I'm using my virpil warbrd base with heavy springs but the MT 50 grip. Maybe I should swap out for the normal springs because I put the heavy ones on thinking that I'd use the warthog grip. But I don't want to recalibrate right now and redo all my bindings.
-
Had no clue you could slide the padding over. I'll try to get rid of those flaps. Thanks!

There are full version missions where you often start on the runway hot and have to take off and go through all the way points or short version of the same mission in day and night where you start in the air somewhere at waypoint 1 which puts you closer to the targets.

Maybe he was just testing some things with the Odyssey for a while. I know the Odyssey isn't as comfortable as the rift. But I can't go back to the rift because I like the resolution of the Odyssey much more. At least with the rift I could breath lol the Odyssey squeezes my nose a lot and I'm often stuffed up so it's annoying.

Red Flag Training Missions - F/A-18C
sze5003 replied to beppe_goodoldrebel's topic in User Created Missions General
No worries it's been a while since I refueled in the hornet. I'll keep trying I think I just have some bad luck because I'll line up and make it so close to the basket then the tanker initiates a turn :) But I'm having fun with these missions. I want to play them in sequence so I'm forcing my self to do them in order before moving on to the attack stuff. -
I remember I did refuel in the hornet a few times a while back. Not sure what changed now but it seems my warthog throttles have a bit less response pushing them past 50% on the rails. It feels like I move the past military power and the response isn't linear. I need to move them up a bit more past that and then my speed just shoots up quickly. If I lower them to mill power or a bit less the speed takes a while to decrease. What settings in the throttle axis do you guys use if any? I don't remember the power curve acting like this on the throttles. I remember having to move them a lot but the speed increase and decrease used to be better.

Red Flag Training Missions - F/A-18C
sze5003 replied to beppe_goodoldrebel's topic in User Created Missions General
I flew day 0, 1, and 2 so far. Can't quite get the AAR because I haven't done it in a while. Seems the tanker flying around 228 knots makes it a bit difficult because it feels like you're fighting the FCS system. My favorite mission I think so far is the night formation. Once I got my NVG's on it and adjusted them, it was a really nice ride. I had some trouble seeing the tanker because of the darkness but adjusting the nvg's up and down fixed that. -
Very good to know. I have the original Odyssey and luckily I don't have the misalignment issue. I wonder if it's particular to the Odyssey + I know Wags uses an Odyssey too but he hasn't mentioned having this issue either. Good to know they will fix it whether it's windows or the DCS team.

Red Flag Training Missions - F/A-18C

Looking forward to trying these. Thanks ! -
You can stop the Oculus service from running when you boot up your PC if you will use the Samsung. But I don't think you can use the rift controllers with the Odyssey. The Odyssey controllers don't use the rift sensors and can't since they don't require it and have different tracking. Check out Revive for oculus games that you can play on the Odyssey using the Odyssey controllers.

I think during the holidays it was going for $299 but enjoy it. You are in for a treat the f18 cockpit looks great in VR.
