  1. Yeah I see what you mean. I'll look at upgrading the RAM, I just hope the CPU isn't the bottleneck here. I would love to get a new processor but I simply can't afford it. £45 on RAM is stretching it as things are :(.
  2. It's the i3 530 LGA1156 socket I think I can't remember what size cache it had. EDIT: Just googled it looks like it's a 4mb cache.
  3. Unfortunately I can't upgrade the CPU, simply can't afford it. I found some RAM on Overclockers.co.uk 8 gigs of Kingston DDR3 for £44. The CPU is running at over 4ghz though surely that would make up for it being an i3?
  4. Looking to up my RAM from 4gb to 8gb. Didn't build this rig myself and I can't remember what socket RAM I have. So I installed CPU-Z but it says I'm using PC3-10700H (667mhz). I'm a bit confused 'cause I thought I had 1600mhz RAM installed? Saw somewhere else that normally thats for 1333mhz RAM? Slightly confused! Have a Clarkdale i3 overclocked to 4.20ghz but think my 4gigs of DDR3 is bottlenecking my system as my fps isn't that great. I've got a GTX460 which isn't THAT bad. If anyone could help me with this I'd appreciate it!
  5. Man I remember playing Mechwarrior but that was MANY years ago. Looks pretty good might be something to look at cheers.
  6. Mirrors are already off badger66 :) I remember from FC they just chew up the frame rate for nothing! Will try lowering the res but thats a last resort to be honest. I'll tone down the shadows next and see how things go. I'm a bit gutted because I remember that CPU was one of the most limiting factors in my old rig. So I got a really quick CPU if not the best model and it hasn't made much difference. Eyeing up a new rig, but I can only look we students don't have a grand hanging around in our bank accounts lol. PS. How much difference would it make if I up my RAM to say 6Gb? Or would it be more my GPU thats holding me back?
  7. Just to clarify, I'm not running Black Shark 2 only the original.
  8. I just got DCS Warthog today through my letterbox, and trying to get it to a point where I can fly smoothly. Before I go into any detail here are my PC specs: Core i3 530 clocked to 4.20Ghz 4GB of DDR3 1600mhz (I think) Nvidia GTX460 Windows 7 64bit Textures - High Scenes - Medium View Distance - Medium Water - Medium Heat Blur - Off Screen res - 1920x1080 AA - 2x AF- 8x (forced through control panel) Vsync - Off HDR - On TSAA (what is this???) - Off If I missed anything let me know, but my FPS is pretty naff. I know my PC isn't a powerhouse but it's very much capable of running DCS ok. Black Shark runs smooth at 60fps constant no problems. Are there any performance issues I should be aware of? PC is defragged and maintained very well, so no issues there. Was getting some stuttering to start with and external views dropped to 8fps even when I was at 8,000ft by myself with nothing going on.
  9. I used to live on RAF Akrotiri when I was younger, watched the Red's every year when they came to practice before the UK airshow season. I will want to be able to see my old house on the ground textures :P. You using sat imagery or just a plain texture with more detailed buildings?
  10. The GR3 would be a pretty sweet Harrier varient to fly *hint hint* :D
  11. LOL.... yeah... kind of feel stupid right now:doh::lol:
  12. Will I break the tutorial missions? I remember the training missions in BS stopped working after patching. Want to get quite a few hours in with the training missions so I actually know what I'm doing. Mashing lots of buttons mid flight usually ends badly... :P
  13. I'm going to have to bite... Tornado? Jaguar? Buc? Christ an Avro Vulcan??? :P Do tell teasing won't do!:pilotfly:
  14. I actually preferred Sharky Wards book Sea Harriers over the Falklands :) but that's just personal taste.
  15. Will we ever see some British aircraft modeled in DCS? I'm itching to try a proper Harrier sim on the level of detail we've come to expect from the DCS series. I love flying the US and Russian designs, but us Brits are starting to feel a little left out . Since the Harrier's been around a long time must be tons of information around? FA2 version pretty please for carrier ops! :joystick:
  16. Ok, so I've just climbed back in the Kamov after a few years out and finding it hard to get coordinated turns right. No matter what I do the thing just flies left or right and I can't seem to get it centred when turning. I've only flown fixed wing so I don't completely understand some of the techniques used for flying rotary, any advice you guys could throw my way would be appreciated.
  17. Hey guys, I've been away from simming for a good few years now and I'm trying to get the cougar set up again. Noticed on TM site they've got TARGET software instead of Foxy? Are we using that for setting up profiles? Or do most still use foxy to code them? Really want the A-10 HOTAS, but alas been a student I don't have the money for that! Look forward to being back in the pit again :D.
  18. How does it compare the SIMOD A-10A in FC? Interesting find :).
  19. Really? Isn't that a bit dodgey? Thought it would have some kind of anti-ice for the wings... learn something new every day I suppose.
  20. Oh no, don't start mower off with Lock On lol... it's worse than his Allied Force rants :P
  21. Hey Bedouin... I'm sure you will be ok with the A-10! You have an X-52 which is good, although in the future you may want to buy a set of rudder pedals. I have a cheap Saitek set which have held up ok for the last few years. I highly recommend getting a Track IR though, initially I was unsure how good it was until mine arrived through the door and I started using it... it's amazing and I would find it hard to fly without one now! It just becomes second nature to look around and makes the sim all that more immersive. Like Mower said, baby steps. Don't try to fight before you can fly. It might sound boring, but it really works. I spent ages just throwing the Ka-50 about to get a feel for it and navigating before I even flicked the master arm switch.:book: You might also want to look into joining a squadron. When I started flying Falcon 4.0 years back I was slow to pick things up until I joined a squadron... with help from friends I was swatting MiG's outta the sky very quickly and having an absolute blast doing it. There is a fantastic community out there willing to answer any questions you have. Oh, and by the way.... might want to check the credit limit on your credit card, simming gets expensive! Lol :joystick::pilotfly:
  22. Ok.... As much as I would love to see the F-22/35/Typhoon etc etc modelled in DCS... IT AIN'T GUNNA HAPPEN! The systems are far too classified to be of any use for DCS... can we have suggestions which are kind of realistic lol.:pilotfly:
  23. I was never saying that the Harrier could win against a dedicated air superiority fighter ALL the time. But it can't be denied that it could, and has done in the past. From my perspective it seemed from some of the posts in this thread that people were saying that the Harrier would never, ever be able to splat one period... which is has done in the past! Of course, a dedicated fighter will have a stupendous advantage over the Harrier... but it's not immune.
  24. To be honest, strike fighters was a pretty neat sim for F-4's and the like. There are some awesome Phantom sims out there, but most of them are for the MS sim titles so you can't "blow shit up" unfortunately. Keeping my fingers crossed for Jet Thunder personally... those guys are doing an ace job. http://www.thunder-works.com/news.htm
  25. With respect GG, if a harrier can't fly rings around an Eagle how the heck did a seemingly crap lightweight fighter kick the proverbial s**t out of America's best jet at the time? Shame I'm not at home otherwise I'd type out the section where it describes the dogfight. I don't doubt an F-15 could chew up a Harrier for breakfast, but you can say the same for the Eagle. It's dependant on the scenario, your making it sound like the F-15 is some God machine that will never be caught off guard by a cunning pilot. I know I was going a bit far with the F-22 comment, but it would be fun at least just to see how long it could match a rate of turn with one using its nozzles. Your well informed GG I don't doubt that... but sometimes man just need to take a step back instead of getting the last word. Your always knocking folks down with facts and figures! Perhaps you should get in touch with Sharkey, I'm sure he would be delighted to explain the event to you! :)
