Leatherneck Simulations Monthly Update - Februamarch 2015
JG-1_Vogel replied to Cobra847's topic in Heatblur Simulations
Awesome blog! An LN don't sweat we were just going a little stir crazy after the hype train reached LEO. Just a little while longer now! Very curious about the ground radar, my initial thought was "OH! MiG-27!" but that didn't have an A2G radar did it? Just the wee sensor thingmibob at the front. -
can we have a February Monthly update :)

Um, well today is the last day of Feb. Did I miss something or is there an update coming this month? -

Talk about leaving it until the last minute. Tomorrow is the last day of February, unless it comes out later today they're really cutting it close to the wire. -
Not my cup of tea personally, but credit to those who do. Have to admit though it would be great to see some newer AI aircraft/helos as a lot of current airframes are missing which is a shame. Then again, I'd have a list as long as my arm of airframes I'd like to see included in DCS.

:megalol: I don't think the crew chief would agree with that assessment! :pilotfly:

Personally speaking, I really don't understand the desire for full civilian modules for DCS? I can understand C-130's, Globemasters and things like E3's/An-50's because they can fulfil a combat role but an Airbus? Seriously whats the point? FSX is where that sort of thing belongs IMHO.

So, touchdown at roughly 250-270kph? Will have another go and see how I fare.
-
A month or two ago I was nailing landings in the '21 fine with no problems, now either I'm just rusty or have LN tweaked the stress tolerance of the rear gear? I land at 290/300kph and no matter how gently I touch the runway one of my rear undercarrage always collapses. Is it just me?

Framte stutter with DCS World.
JG-1_Vogel replied to JG-1_Vogel's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hey here are some more detailed system specs. Taken from CPU-Z... Mobo: MSI X99S SLI PLUS (MS-7885) CPU: Intel i7 5820K Haswell-E six core RAM: 16GB Quad channel DDR4-2133Mhz GPU: Nvidia GTX970 4GB OS: Windows 7 Hope that helps, and thank you Kuky it would mean a lot if it could help solve the stuttering :). -
Framte stutter with DCS World.
JG-1_Vogel replied to JG-1_Vogel's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Thanks Kuky, will have a look. Don't know if I will be able to do it though, I'm crap when it comes to changes BIOS settings scared I'll brick something :p. -
Hey guys, I just got my new rig (horray!) and all my games run beautifully at settings I could only have dreamed of before. My only problem atm is DCS, unsurprisingly. My FPS is fairly stable in the mid 40's with occasional peaks of 60 (vsync enabled) on high settings all round (apart from heat blur which is a fps killer for me). Only issue is I'm getting SEVERE frame stuttering and it's very noticeable. With the in-game FPS counter enabled I'm going from the likes of 30-60 fps on alternate frames. Reducing in game graphics settings has no impact, so I'm guessing it's something to do with the current drivers? Or is there a config fix somewhere for this issue? I'm running a GTX970 4Gb with the latest Nvidia drivers. Any help with this would be very much appreciated, makes spotting targets really impossible with the ground textures stuttering all over the place. EDIT: Just realised I could have posted this in the DCS world subforums, mods feel free to move :).

Ah, how I both love and hate iOS. It's got superb games, and I do prefer it over Android (bad previous experience with HTC Desire) but you rarely see niche apps like this because Apple charge so much for developer licenses.

:megalol::megalol::megalol: An F4-U would be awesome, I remember back in the day playing CFS2 flying the Corsair all the time. Was my favourite of the lot, except maybe the Hellcat. Also, if they did an F-14 AND a MiG-23 I doubt I'd ever really need to buy another module again (other than perhaps the Hornet and if it was ever done a Harrier and a Tornado). -
Great video, those radar filter buttons really have a clunky sound to them. Lovely aircraft, MFCDs and glass cockpits are great and all that, but sometimes you can't beat the old analogue dials and switches.

JG-1_Vogel replied to Corvus's topic in Screenshots and Videos
That was close lol. Man, the Su-27 looks lovely with the settings ramped up. Can't wait for my new PC to arrive next week so I can do the same. Running everything on low atm. -
Looking forward to this! With all the buzz and speculation about F-14's in the LN forum when they said about implementing full multi-seat I squeed at the thought. Now to get some MiG-28's :P.

Hi everyone, my ageing rig gave me a fright today when it wouldn't boot up correctly so I'm looking at systems online while this ones still working. Moving up from an antiquated i3 cpu, 4gb RAM and a GTX460 which I got about 5 years ago on a shoestring budget. Looking at systems from the same UK company which I've only ever had good dealings with - Overclockers. Saw this rig, while expensive looks fairly future proof for what I need. Also they do a 12 months interest free finance option which is what I would have to do, can't afford the straight up payment. It's a full tower, with Intel/Nvidia set up: Mobo - X99 chipset, so the latest and greatest CPU - i7 Haswell-E 5280K at 3.8Ghz RAM - 16Gb DDR4 2133Mhz GPU - Nvidia GTX970 4Gb (would like the 980 but just far too expensive) SDD - Samsung 250Gb (was initially a 120Gb but thought that would be too small) HDD - Seagate 1Tb Added on an optical drive, although not essential ideal for all those games that aren't in my Steam library. Link to Overclockers page: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-065-OG&groupid=43&catid=2475 List price once you take VAT at 20% into account is £1392.95, which doesn't include an OS. They charge £80 for Win 7 HP but I'm sure you can get that for cheaper without using a cracked version. What do you think? Worth the money or overpriced? Bearing in mind I have little time to be picking out components and building it myself, lots going on at the moment with work and a recent death in the family... so would rather someone else do the work :P.

I don't quite understand the problem with the gear on the '21. You don't even need a HOTAS set up, just do the key commands... IIRC it's Rctl+= then g then Rctl +rshft and you're done. No biggy! I really like it personally, makes take off's interesting! The avionics are so straight forward in the MiG (to a point) that the actual task of flying the little beast is the main draw for me. Likewise I get bored in the A-10 because the aircraft is so boring to fly for me, the only thing that I like are the avionics which have a manual thicker than the last Yellow Pages I got through the post.

Steering/braking: Current, simplified behaviour or realistic?
JG-1_Vogel replied to Corrigan's topic in MiG-21Bis
I would like the option personally. I'm flying with an old cougar and Saitek pedals (all falling to bits) and use the lever on the front of my cougar as the brakes like in the MiG 'pit and it's quite easy once you get used to it. You just have to anticipate where you're going instead of relying on the instant response you get from the FC3 aircraft and the A-10C. Even if you don't have rudders etc, it's still easy. Just use the X and C keys I believe those are the left/right rudder keys and just apply the brake as appropriate. -
Yes didn't work. We can contact it but nothing comes back on the radio.

Hey guys, how do you set up an A-50 AWACS to report targets to you? A squad mate of mine has been working away on some missions but we can't get the A-50 to call out incoming B-52's nor does it respond when you call for picture etc. I know that with the MiG in SP missions like the campaign the AWACS is set to channel 0, but that doesn't work in MP either. Any tips on this would be greatly appreciated, we're pulling our hair out here!

JG-1_Vogel replied to britgliderpilot's topic in MiG-21Bis
Thanks might be worth a read since it's so cheap! -
Sorry, what's NOE? Yes, when you lock a target you should press the bottom left button out of the 8 that control the radar filtering and it will display as a double dash (=) if friendly single dash (-) if hostile or an upside down T if it's above you. Agree with you about the other FC3 aircraft. Their systems are so basic next to the likes of the A-10C and MiG-21bis it's quite an advantage they have over us.

Has anyone had much luck flying this beast in MP? I'm comfortable with the avionics etc, but employing her in a combat environment is proving to be tricky at best. The RWR is so rudimentary that it just tells you "HEY BAD GUYS OVER THERE" but with no range or ability to differentiate between threat types it doesn't do much for SA. Then there is the radar, which has range so short you're essentialy WVR by the time you come to fire. Then there is the problem of your range being so short yet when you turn on your radar (even just for a quick scan) you light up on the RWR's of jets which can engage you well outside of your range. I've been trying to employ her as an ambusher flying low and fast while looking for smoke/con trails before going full burner and getting a quick shot off before disappearing back whence I came, but not much luck so far. Any tips for a stumped ground pounder? :joystick::helpsmilie:
