  1. oh fair enough, I thought they would be a bit pricer that's all.
  2. Yeah I would like to but money will be fairly tight so it's going to have to be sub £1000 since my Cougar and rudder pedals are also on their last legs and will need replacing very soon as I've had them for 7-8 years now of almost constant use. Watched some videos and I probably could do a self build but the 12month 0% finance offers on overclockers make things much easier for me so I might end up going with them regardless as banks don't tend to do BNPL loans like that these days AFAIK. EDIT: And off will wait for EDGE to be released, I'm merely trying to budget and plan ahead since I will have other bills to pay for the car soon :).
  3. What is your current graphics card? I'm no expert, but since you only have 4GB of RAM you're not meeting the DCS minimum system requirements. I'm in the same boat with only 4GB, it might be worth getting 8GB RAM since DCS always has a lot of assets to load up and you might bottleneck a GPU like the 640 with it. I'm actually not going to bother upgrading my current system and am going to save for a whole new build since it would work out better in the long run as with the 9XX series nvidia cards supposedly around the corner the 640 might be obsolete before you even get it. Would recommend getting AT LEAST a 750 preferably a 770. I feel your pain being on a tight budget though, all my kit is giving up at once as it's old now and I can't afford to replace it all!
  4. I voted for the F-111 because it would make a great match for when/if LN release a MiG-23 :D.
  5. Aye that throttle looked ace, not to my taste though I dislike flying the WWII a/c in DCS when I've got modern jets and heli's to choose from!
  6. Actually looking at some other websites now, the system I linked above works out at £700 once you beef up the GPU to the 2gb ti version and they charge full retail price for windows. Found another sites called dinopc.com and they're doing a spec which is much better for just shy of £900 CPU: i5 4690k (with Zalman cooler) Motherboard: Gigabyte Z97MX-Gaming 5 RAM: 8Gb Corsair 2133mhz (other system was only 1600mhz) GPU: GTX770 2Gb SSD: Corsair "neutron" 128GB SSD HDD: 1Tb standard 7200RPM job Plus it comes in a nice looking corsair case with LED's instead of a plain black midi case. Just unsure if I can save that much up before my current rig becomes useless for playing DCS.
  7. I think you misunderstand, the 640mb card is what I have at the moment. The cheaper option for the new PC is the 1Gb 750 or the 2Gb ti version.
  8. Hi everyone, the system I'm running at the moment is pretty pants when it comes to running DCS and I've been wanting to upgrade for some time. I saw a budget system which is within my price range but wanted to know what you guys thought of it and how it might perform in DCS. To give you a comparison, my current system is as follows: Core i3 oc'd to 4.2Ghz 4Gb RAM Nvidia GTX460 with about 640mb of RAM Win 7 HP System I'm looking at: Z96 chipset motherboard Core i5 4690K at 3.5Ghz 8Gb DDR3 1600Mhz GTX750 1Gb (or maybe the ti with 2Gb) Seagate 500Gb 7200RPM HDD I don't have the time to build my own system so looking at buying one online, used Overclockers a lot and always had good service with them. Only thing I was thinking is that it lists this system spec with a 450W PSU to me that seems a little on the low side? On the whole though how do you think this system will cope currently and in the future?
  9. I would imagine the "top" speeds are only attainable in a shallow dive. Will be interesting getting used to the two stage burner etc. First few flights are bound to be full of mishaps!
  10. Shame you didn't get to have a go. I can tell you though the Warthog is a definite purchase. I'm still using my old Cougar from my Falcon days and it's really on it's last legs. I was thinking about getting a cheaper X52 Pro but the Warthog was so precise and so awesome I'm most certainly going to save up for one now. Also, Hawk - Day 1 purchase :D can't wait to fly a BRITISH jet in DCS!
  11. Managed to get a quick go on the Hawk with the Rift today. Wow, totally immersive and unlike anything I've ever used before. Also the Hawk was great, the resolution on the rift made it hard to make out the dials but the pit looked epic, can't wait for release :D.
  12. "One MiG to rule them all" Just looking forward to this so much now, hype train just reached escape velocity and currently heading into space lol.
  13. *click* Ordered :D. Now all I need to do is invent time travelling so I can immediately jump to the 18th and fly the sucker!
  14. I'd been eyeing these MDF's up for a while and that looks awesome... why does this hobby have to cost so much money with all the kit lol :(.
  15. YYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! WOOOO! Can't wait, only thing is I've also got the latest Zelda spin off arriving on the 19th so it's going to be fun juggling both although the MiG might win out :D. Can't wait to try JATO on a clean aircraft to see how stupidly fast it launches off the ground lol. This thing is going to be absolutely INSANE. :joystick: Congratulations to the LN team, you guys have had your ups and downs but it's just the last mad dash to the finish now and then you can have a week off :). I mean you have to start work on that MiG-23 soon... right? :P :pilotfly:
  16. Have to agree however much I'd love to swat some Sabres with a MiG-15, I want the devs to actually finish their other thee modules first! The Huey is getting there but the Mi-8 still has work to be done and the Sabre only just came out.
  17. Hype level just left the atmosphere and into orbit. Wow, what a beauty. I'm really unsure how my PC will cope with this module but providing I've got the cash this will be a day 1 purchase. I have a massive grin on my face right now caaaaaannn't waaaaait any longeerrrrrrr :D.
  18. Great stuff guys, I'm really glad that things are coming together now. It's been a long road but we're almost there, looking forward to the day when the 159th server is littered with the burning wrecks of crashed MiG-21's lol.
  19. Lol, personally the Sabre can't hold a candle to the MiG-21, a MiG-15 wold be awesome but that's looking unlikely at the moment.
  20. ^^ That :D. I guess I should start preparing my wallet now... spent £90 yesterday on a new guitar amp thinking nothing else would be needing my interest but perhaps I was wrong lol... Ugh... all donations are kindly accepted :P.
  21. I don't know if it's still the case, but I remember in FC2 I think it was flying behind hills in say a MiG-29 and my F-16 opponent knew EXACTLY where I was and adjusted to intercept me despite not being able to see me. It continued to adjust course to my every move so it wasn't as if it was "guesstimating" where I would be from my last known position. I just hope that such issues will soon be behind us. Once EDGE is out, and the foundation is solid there needs to be some serious bug squishing going on :).
  22. Cobra, a little off topic but you were talking about the memory req's for the MiG. I know you probably still have some optimising to do but what's the recommended GPU RAM for this beast? I'm a little concerned my humble GTX460 won't cut the mustard.
  23. I always wondered why ED haven't programmed a "human" side to the AI. In BoB II the AI is superb, fresh pilots panic and make mistakes/erratic manoeuvres while the aces drop down from the sun and pick you off before you can say "bugger". I'm no programmer, and I know how complex modern AI can be. How much work would it take for an AI overhaul? You know, so they don't fly into the sea while dodging missiles etc?
