What It's All About - DCS World Cinematic
Nightwolf replied to Nightwolf's topic in Screenshots and Videos
Thanks everyone! -
How hard is it to just taxi to the cat? If you just teleported to the cat and there was someone nearby or waiting then you cut them off. Last I remember the Su-33 option tended to explodify people when someone was already in position, not move you to the next launch position...

These days there are so many sensors that would see the carrier long before the lights are visible. They probably close the hangar doors and use minimal lighting but by the time anything is close enough to see the lights on the carrier, they'd have seen it on radar, or picked up the RWR contact. If they need to go stealth (for some semblance of stealth), I'm sure they turn the lights off. It would certainly make night ops easier especially since I'm sure planes don't keep their landing lights on while taxiing blinding the deck crew constantly.

Timeline for AMRAAM and guided munitions
Nightwolf replied to mig29smt_fulcrum's topic in DCS: F/A-18C
Surprised no one has commented yet, but the A-10C uses the AN/AAQ-28 Litening targeting pod not the LANTIRN system (Which usually uses 2 pods) on planes like the F-14, F-16, and F-15E. -
I think it's in the controls section because the switches still move in the cockpit, it's just that they don't do anything. Sort of like IFF and radio encryption panels and stuff like that on the A-10C. They're there, but they don't really have a use in the sim.

What It's All About - DCS World Cinematic
Nightwolf replied to Nightwolf's topic in Screenshots and Videos
Thanks, yeah I just wanted to do something different. I was getting tired of Glitch Mob in every video  Thanks! -
My second cinematic, this time with more Hornet! Let me know what you think! The goal was to make a video that I could show to my friends and help them understand what I'm doing in DCS.

Need feedback on my cinematography....
Nightwolf replied to Growling Sidewinder's topic in Screenshots and Videos
Cool! One thing that I noticed is sometimes your framerate seemed to be suffering (It could be my bad internet though, idk). If you notice this is happening, which used to be my problem, you could always run the sim in slow motion and speed the footage up in editing, effectively increasing the framerate. -
Sounds like you need to check your control bindings. It's possible that two things are bound to the same control or something like that.
-
IRL it's the system that uses actual cameras in the cockpit to record DDIs (Over the shoulder cam), your HUD (HUD Cam) or even the HMD with an HMD camera. It's used to debrief flights and go through and figure out what happened basically. It probably won't be functional in DCS, as we can just use the track replay system to debrief.

That's actually kind of the point. In the special features documentary, they said they actually started with getting all of the aerial video, then realized they didn't have a plot so they did their best to cobble one together in editing. It's all about the rock and roll dogfighting, no one watches Top Gun for the plot
-
Yeah they're using hornets for this one, there aren't many Tomcats available still in service

If you have combined arms, there is already an LSO view, just press LAlt+F9 by default. However, it's a really weird view, just a regular view with a static effect over it, and no control over the waveoff lights. It would be nice to be able to stand at the LSO platform and watch the camera with lines and boxes.

Ok, like I said I've never used a radar before

[NO BUG] No need to retract hook to taxi after a trap
Nightwolf replied to Jack McCoy's topic in Bugs and Problems
In fact, if you raise your hook immediately after trapping before you roll back, it might not drop the wire and you end up having to put the hook down and fiddle with it to get off. -
Kind of related it might be something I'm doing wrong but sometimes I just run off right engine power during INS alignment, and when I spool the left, sometiems the left DDI and MPCD shut off and go through their power-up sequences again.
-
So when it is implemented, it is a smart ECM system that detects radars, and jams when it detects it should. It's not implemented yet though. There is a section on the ECM in RedKite's countermeasures systems video on youtube.

[NO BUG] No need to retract hook to taxi after a trap
Nightwolf replied to Jack McCoy's topic in Bugs and Problems
If you roll back far enough that there is no longer any tension on the wire, it can just fall off the hook I think. -
I'm actually pretty sure this is how it is in the real aircraft. If you look at your Attack Radar page when you switch to say vertical scan, you can see how the radar is scanning in bars going up and down them. If you are maneuvering, there is probably a high chance that the radar beam scans past too fast or just misses the target. (Not that I have any experience in the real plane)

Yeah it's sitting on one of ED's servers

You beat me to it

I have an exam in 30 mins and I'm still here! (For the next 30 mins at least!)

Just noticed the F/A-18C subforum is currently at (400 viewing) :megalol:

IIRC in the manual it says that when targets are very close, the RWR cannot determine exact direction of the contact when it's locking you. Similar to the MiG-21's.
