  1. I believe he meant simply being able to carry LGBs so that other planes can buddy lase for the hornet?
  2. So it may have changed bindings, but I can’t find a “target unlock” control anywhere... I haven’t flown in today’s update yet and I don’t know if it’s been reported yet but it’s a little annoying to have to switch modes to unlock a target.
  3. Like the F-15 uses, where it can interpret the radar returns and identify the type of aircraft (Su-27 etc) once its close enough.
  4. I understood from the weekend update that all we were getting was the B variant? I suppose the weapons list does just list ADM-141 without any variants...
  5. Sure they're not going to make the whole thing from just one TALD, but A) They probably aren't flying very fast when they hit the ground (Unless they are programmed to dive extra fast) and B) The idea is to shoot tons of them to simulate a much larger assault. You might not be able to reverse engineer a Toyota from one crash, but after 50 or 100...
  6. Well it's not powered, so I assume it can't turn and fly back... Other than that I'm interested to learn how it behaves in flight. Good point about leaving it for the enemy to check out.
  7. I don’t know if you’ve actually played dcs, but planes tend to get very small very quickly. Try this: fly formation with an AI. Then, rapidly break off, in a steep dive. How long I can you tell how many wings he has without zooming in from the external view of the AI? As mentioned earlier, he was only 10 miles from the airport. This didn’t take place over 30 minutes or anything like that, the whole time from collision to landing was probably only 2 minutes at most. What makes you think the wingman had time to confirm the safe ejection of the A-4 pilot, talk to ATC, turn around, find his wingman, and join up with him in that amount of time, especially while following the sometimes wildly out of control aircraft?
  8. I can't imagine the wingman was able to stay very close to the plane as it was spiralling down out of control. Likely all the wingman saw was the collision, then the smoke trail as the jet fell out of the sky. The airport was apparently not very far away at all, so there likely wasn't enough time for the instructor to do a full damage analysis prior to the landing. When watching from a distance greater than a couple miles, it's really hard to see details of shape more than that something is there. Combine that with the fuel trail hiding part of it, it's entirely possible that the instructor was never close enough or stable enough to clearly see the missing wing.
  9. I've seen MiG-21 and F-5 get identified, it just takes closer ranges (probably because they're smaller) I do agree that the Mirage especially never gets identified on the radar.
  10. Did you ever think that maybe in the heat of the moment while the pilot was fighting for his life, he may have not looked very closely, and been focusing on flying the plane? Maybe he was mistaken?
  11. You must be getting extra free bonus content! Care to share? Is it the Hornet?
  12. Will the server be running on the open beta branch so players can have access to the memory manager in 2.5.1?
  13. They also flash in and out at distance depending on your zoom level. I've had trouble finding other aircrafts' contrails by just looking around, but when I zoom in even just a little but, suddenly the contrail just appears. I think it might be a problem with view distance?
  14. Well, here goes! Here is my first ever DCS World cinematic, entitled "Fight Back." The idea was to almost entirely only use aircraft that you can buy and fly yourself. It took me about 3 months of on and off work to finish. Hope you like it! Check out the description on Youtube for more info and some other facts, including the song name, programs, and how I produced the whole thing! Any feedback is welcome!
  15. +1 please fix this it makes night time CAS coordination very difficult!
  16. What do you mean by follow? If you want cameras that will stay focused on the planes, use the F2 view. If you want a stationary camera that just tracks the planes, use the F11 view, and once you have it where you want it, look at the plane you want to track and press the period key on your numpad. This should lock it to the target.
  17. The way the replay system works right now, instead of recording the state of every single system, it just needs to remember the changes (I think). Instead of logging the position of every unit 60 times per second, it just logs the changes in control inputs. If you use time acceleration, it can throw off the possible inputs. The challenge of fixing them is that creating a system that saves the entire state of every single switch and system of every plane and unit in the mission every tick would create massive replay files even for short flights, and would take a lot of extra system resources. My best guess is that replays that are broken come after lag spikes or other disruptive events where the game gets confused, and the track replay either contains extra inputs or not enough. It would be nice to see a better or more accurate track system, but it's not as easy as it sounds.
  18. The problem with creating a new replay system is that there are so many different systems etc. Tacview just has to log the position, speed, etc. basically physical state of the planes and vehicles etc in the mission. To create a replay system that allows skipping around, you first have to create some kind of system that knows every single switch and state of every system in the game and what they do and how they would be represented in the game. Then, every single frame, or tick, or however fast the inputs are recorded, it needs to record the exact state of every switch, system, AND the physical state of every aircraft. Then you need to create a way of loading into every single possible configuration at any time. The way the replay system works right now, instead of recording the state of every single system, it just needs to remember the changes (I think). Instead of logging the state of every control on the radar, it just logs, "oh, he turned the radar to standby" This means that the files are smaller, and it takes a far smaller performance impact to log it than writing everything every frame. I do agree with aledmb though, I'm not sure if it's possible but it would be interesting to see a way to skip to a place in the track by simulating in the background at a much higher speed than it was recorded at, just to get you to the right place.
  19. Because not all beta updates are applied to the release branch. Sometimes things can get unstable in the beta branch, because they’re testing new things. Most servers are all running release because it’s generally much more stable.
  20. Ok, I stand corrected, sorry ;) I had no idea that the 530 is also supposed to have a tone as well.
  21. First of all this is really a thread for posting bugs, not asking questions. Second, the 530s don’t have a lock tone, they’re radar guided. You know you have a lock if you have a radar lock, they don’t need a tone.
  22. I know that the hms is for off boresight acquisition, I’m simply saying I feel that the sight is to low on the screen which makes it harder to lock things due to the extra amount of looking up required. It doesn’t just affect targets in front of you, but all around you. If you want to lock someone who’s level with you but off to your right 20 degrees, you still have to look up extra to center the sight on them.
  23. I’ve noticed that the Su-27 HMS is centered at the middle of the screen, meaning when it’s selected and your head position is neutral, it is centered basically over the IRST pod. This means that in order to put the sensor over someone who is directly ahead of you, or level with you in any direction, you need to look up a decent amount as well as look horizontally to get the sight to them. This gets tiring really quickly as you merge and you keep having to look up extra to get the reticle on the bad guy. It would be awesome if there was either an option to maybe center is 2/3 of the way up the screen, or even just keybinds to adjust it. For example, the Ka-50’s sight isn’t in the middle of the screen, which makes it much less work with your head to point it where you need it to be. I’ve lost so many missile opportunities just because I was having trouble fighting with TrackIR and the sight, and I think if it were moved up the screen some, it would be much easier and faster to use.
  24. Check out this thread for more info on the radar: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=198076 Nearer to the end it talks about the switches around the outside As for the radar map display, I believe the manual or something I read somewhere mentioned that it’s for displaying a moving map on the radar screen, which isn’t implemented currently?
