The problem with this is if there are supposed to be units hiding in trees or helos hiding behind them, suddenly they're all completely exposed. Missiles and planes may be able to go right through them, but your eyes still can't.

I would try gci, but a. that requires combine arms which I don’t have, and b. I’m talking about servers that are casual, where people don’t need to get on srs or teamspeak for gci. Also, I haven’t been able to find the 51st server. I tried direct connect on the ip from the website and it said server offline, so...
-
Also don't forget, simply flaring is not really enough. Your chances of survival often increase if you throttle back, especially pulling out of burner. It makes the flares more tasty for the missiles compared to your own IR signature.

I wish I could :( Being a full time student I have neither the time nor the resources to do so (nor the hardware). I’ll have to try the 51st, haven’t seen it yet somehow. As for Mirknir, like I said I completely understand why he stopped hosting. He made his decision and I don’t really want to change it.

I'm probably not alone in this, but I don't really enjoy the AI in DCS  The only place where I can fight worthy opponents is with my friends in multiplayer servers. Sure, I can do this in the 104th or Dynamic Caucasus, but sometimes I just want some place to relax and play some BVR (Or I can't connect to the popular servers due to the memory leak ;) ). Open Conflict was exactly this for me, but ever since it went down, the best option has been the 104th. I don't really know how to accurately express what I'm trying to say. Basically, Open Conflict, I miss you, and I'm tired of the "realism" servers (which my friends won't ever go on) with objectives just to get some fighting in. DCS could really use a new casual PvP server. Doesn't need fancy scripts or tons of objectives necessarily (Although CAS and helo objectives would be great too), just something super simple, almost like Just Dogfight, but with BVR. An added bonus would be that with less scripts running, it could (maybe) be easier to connect to for people with less powerful machines. Obviously I'm only thinking about A2A here, I don't have a ton of experience ground pounding, and none with helos. Any server created like this would definitely get frequent visits from me and probably my friends too. I understand how much work developing missions and hosting DCS servers is, so it's completely understandable that no one has stepped into Mirknir's place. I'm just saying that I and probably a lot of other people would really appreciate a simple, no-pressure environment to just lay back and fly some jets, without having to worry about protecting airfields or trying to protect CAS jets in enemy territory.

Can't join multiplayer 2.5 stuck in loading or lobby or black cockpit
Nightwolf replied to Jaakov's topic in Multiplayer Bugs
I think he moved his saved games folder to his SSD? -
Have you tried just waiting? Ever since the 2.5 update cockpit textures take a lot longer to load in than they used to. Is your game frozen in this state, or are you able to look around and everything? I sometimes have to wait a minute or two for the textures to load.

I'm no expert in these things, but shouldn't there be formation lights and maybe even floodlights on tankers at night? I've been trying to practice my night time AAR, and I can barely see the boom or drouge, and then only be pure chance of getting close enough. I have to first fly close enough for the nav lights on the tanker to show up using radar, then guess based on the nav lights where the refueling instrument is (depending on the tanker). Are there supposed to be flood lights to light up the thing you're supposed to be flying to, or do you have to rely on your own aircraft lights? Even formation lights would help, flying off the nav lights alone is extremely difficult. I've tried it with and without clouds, and with and without a full moon, nothing really helps. I'm aware that there are some problems with deferred shading at night right now, but I can't do anything, or see anything really. Do I just have to get good at guessing, or is night AAR just not a thing that happens ever?

Yeah, from the NATOPS: and finally:
-
Nah they're on the same 256Gb External SSD. Seeing some people talk about 50+ gig updates I think it simply didn't show anything being transferred, as my download is only 44 gigs. I've been waiting long enough that I can wait an extra couple hours  Interesting though how some people have such small downloads compared to others...
-
Well the installer said copying files from DCS 2 OpenAlpha, then proceeded to not to transfer anything, and is now downloading all 44Gb of stuff. Good thing I have 6 hours before I get home to let my slow internet chug away! Looking forward to more fun in the new version!

Can't Connect to Populated Servers
Nightwolf replied to Nightwolf's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
Actually, it's starting to look like it was SRS... I uninstalled it when I deleted autoexec.cfg, and now when I reinstall it, I can't connect. More testing must follow... -
On your TGP page, when the laser turns on, there should be a flashing L. Is it flashing? It could be that the laser is not firing for some reason.

Can't Connect to Populated Servers
Nightwolf replied to Nightwolf's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
Well my problem's solved (Although I agree with discwalker). I had the autoexec.cfg in my config folder as stated in the original post. What worked for me was then removing it again...managed to connect to multiple populated servers. Odd that it didn't help until I took it away though. Hope these multiplayer problems are all solved in 2.5 ;) -
Interesting problem here. A couple days ago my DCS was working fine, I could connect to any server without trouble. Now, if I try to get into a server with about 10+ players online, it loads for upwards of 10-15 minutes, then sometimes shows me a quick flash of the role screen, then I get kicked back to the menu, with no error message. This happens for example trying to join the 104th with 30+ players. However, when I connect to an empty server, or a server with only a couple people on it, it works fine, loads in a minute or two, and everything works happy. I've tried repairing, using autoexec.cfg to change download and upload speeds, running low settings, high settings, and deleting my Saved Games\DCS folder. I've also checked my firewall, and made sure I had exceptions in my Antivirus. I didn't change anything as far as I know to make this problem start. Some basic info: Modules: FC3, A-10C, M2000C, F-5E DCS is installed on an external SSD Running Win10. Attached is a log (turned into a txt so I could upload it) file where I first attempted to connect to the highly populated 104th, with ~35 people on it, then connected to the empty open conflict beta server. dcs.txt

He certainly wasn't flying for fuel efficiency
-
I don't know about the flight time, but I believe T is the total fuel (internal + tanks) and I is just internal. Once his single centerline tank was empty, the total fuel was equal to his internal fuel. I agree though I was surprised that the plane his bingo so quickly, maybe I'm just used to the A-10 and planes with better loiter times :)
-
How odd that they would use both definitions in the same plane! On the topic of the radar in the Mirage, can anyone explain what all the switches around the VTB do and how they could be used? I've looked around without much success, and they're not mentioned in the manual or Chuck's guide.

:helpsmilie: Engine shutdown not working + other poss. bugs
Nightwolf replied to Flashman_H's topic in Bugs and Problems
If you're using the keyboard commands, your throttles need to be at idle before they can be shut off AFAIK. Check to make sure your throttles are properly calibrated, it's possible that the throttles aren't actually going all the way to idle when your controller is. -
I believe that the aspect angle is the difference between the noses of the two aircraft. 0 degrees would be a tail chase, and 180 is head on.
-
I'm pretty sure it's not a bug. I've experienced this, and if you look at your fuel flow gauges, the flow will go to AB levels, but the nozzle size will bump and then stay low. As far as I can tell it's the engines not lighting the afterburner, but the plane has no way to know this, so it continues to pour fuel into the engine. Like BadHabit said, slower throttle movements, and lots of rapid changes from mil to AB will cause your burners to not light. Be gentle!

Pilot and RIO separate controls? Locking airplanes?
Nightwolf replied to Nightwolf's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Ok cool thanks to both of you I haven't had any experience with multicrew stuff in DCS this cleared up my questions! -
I'm no expert on the controls on the tomcat, but it seems to me that for a lot of people who have a limited number of hotas controls that it would be very useful to be able to have a completely different set of controls bound when riding RIO than riding pilot because of the different priorities back there. Is this going to happen? If so, how? Different control sets in the settings dropdown, or just different settings inside the F-14 area. In a different area, is it going to be possible in multiplayer to lock your aircraft so you don't have random people hopping into your plane? This may already be addressed in other planes like the Gazelle and the L-39, I don't know.

I haven't seen it up yesterday or today so it's definitely down for some reason.

You say thanks to the waiter at a restaurant don't you? You tell the clerk thank you at a grocery store. You can say thanks to your computer when you buy a module but the module makers can't hear you. Here they can. They're people too, like SiThSpAwN said, and most of them probably don't get much recognition. And if you're not excited about the future, you should be, because there are so many awesome things coming.
