  1. So I got a new single fan 3060 for £480 sold my 1660. I can hold 60 fps in Syria 55 over Damascus with msaa x4 and SSAA at 1.5 and most of the settings on high. I’ve just been playing with over clocking I’m getting quite good results with my 9600k It was worth the £180 after I sold my old card
  2. I’m suffering terrible from shadow flickering and shimmering in 2d Also suffer with anything that reflects sunlight causes a shimmer. Flying across Syria map the roofs of houses are like mirrors and rivers like horizontal lighting strikes. It’s worse at golden hour. the settings I use don’t matter I could use 2x SSAA and 4x MSAA and it still wouldn’t change anything. I have 32 gb of RAM and a RTX 3060 I know it’s not a top end card but even with lowest settings all round and AA options on full it’s still a shimmering flickering mess. The DCS settings don’t seem to help it. PG map still has flicker but it’s not so bad as Syria. Kavkas is ok same as PG Nevada is quite good doesn’t suffer so bad. what’s the best way to show this problem ? Video my screen or screen grab ?
  3. Hi I tried all combinations on Damascus taxi, I settled with 4 x MSAA for best performance and no shimmering for my rig. I’m wondering if investing in a 1080 with the greater ram will help run SSAA because I like the look with it on or will it not make a difference and I would be better with a more modern architecture. The ability to use SSAA would be worth the £250 for me if the gpu could support it.
  4. So I'm back again ...... still humming and arrring The 1080 is still in CEX and I've worked out after swapping my card in it would cost me £250. My biggest issue currently is with performance of AA with 2x MSAA and 1.5 SSAA I get 30 fps in single player in a home made mission with max 20 units and it looks nice and is smooth. If I use 4x MSAA I can get about 55 - 60 FPS on the Damascus taxi mission but its just not quite as visually appealing. I am happy with the look of the sim just not the shimmering jaggies. To play through the inferno for example I need to drastically reduce my settings. Would I be able to employ the SSAA with the 1080 and get better frames? If I could run 1.5 SSAA and get more like 60 fps I would be very happy and that to me would be worth £250 but if it won't make a difference I would throw the money at a different cpu which may help with the larger missions. Any advice on getting rid of shimmering and jaggies would be greatly appreciated. it seems to be where clouds meet mountains and on the surface of water. I can get rid of the jaggies from lines with MSAA
  5. I think I will wait for a lot longer and hang on to what I already have. 2.7 couldn’t be any more demanding than it already is I was thinking to throw some money down on an i9 but I only use my computer for dcs nothing else so it would just be spending more money on cores that I don’t use. stay with what I’ve got and see what happens
  6. Thanks for the replies. im running 0 MSAA and 2 x SSAA ( because it got rid of my jaggies/shimmering) Both textures on high, low traffic and water. Flat shadows and high visibility. my trees are at 80% My frame rate is slow but it’s quite smooth it’s prob easier to get a screenshot later, I can reduce aliasing for performance but the jaggies come with a vengeance.
  7. Hi I’ve got a 1660 super currently and I’m running a 1080 resolution monitor 60hz. I get 30-40 FPS on campaign missions with better than medium settings. I haven’t tried a Syria campaign yet I will probably cry. Other specs are i5 9600 and 32gb of ram. Im not sure if people are au fait with CEX but they have a 1080 sc in stock second hand that I would get a good deal on if I took in my current 1660. Is it worth paying out the extra £245 for the 1080 would I get a performance boost with the same settings or is it better to save and wait a month or two and get a 3060 if I can find one? I would still have to sell the 1660 up front so would be grounded for a few days while I wait for delivery of the new card.
  8. It seems like the teething troubles when they released 2.1 with the new trees. Which ended up with people having to upgrade to a min of 16gb to run a single player mission. Who knows whether they ever actually fixed the memory leak. What should be happening is the published system requirements need to be changed to take into account the performance loss. I’m just returning to DCS after a hiatus and have been weighing up what budget hardware to start me off. From reading all of these posts it seems the mid range user is hit the hardest maybe they should change the system requirements to show the “high” requirements as the minimum required. Then expectations can be adjusted to suit.
  9. That’s a ryzen 3300x cpu mb and ram for that price and I just noticed its even cheaper at CCL at £278 I appreciate the info about RAM and latency I will bear that in mind. The link to the RAM if you go to the site and change delivery to UK it will show the real uk price after import taxes it’s £309. As much as the the figures are impressive I can’t afford a ryzen 5600 currently so it’s not part of the equation. The main things buy the right latency of RAM, avoid the earlier ryzen and it doesn’t matter about upgrade path anyway as there is another form factor coming out at the end of the year. This has pretty much made my decision for me I think I’m just going to go and get a cheap dell workstation with an i7 throw some cheap ram in to take it up to 16gb or 32 and spend the difference on a gpu if I’m going to be changing the motherboard anyway to upgrade.
  10. Thanks for the advice I’ll reflect on it and let you know how I get on
  11. Hi Thanks I’m not really into overclocking myself. So whatever AMD I get I will be looking at a new motherboard if I want to upgrade in a year or two time? Is there a way if I don’t have a working cpu in the motherboard to update the bios of the motherboard because I don’t currently have a pc never mind a working cpu. I can get 3200 ram easily just not named brand would that make a difference? I have actually been looking at a ryzen 3300x has good single core speed. I can get that 16gb of 3200 ram and a board for £310 My other option is get a cheap dell 3090 with an old i7 for £150 ish and add a better gpu with the downside that when I upgrade I’ll have to buy a full system.
  12. Hi I’m a returning pilot and looking at getting set up. I have been looking at either getting a new mb and cpu to go into an old case I have lying around or getting a second hand computer. if I were to buy second hand I could get a 1660 ti gpu but if I were to buy a new mb/cpu I would still need to get a second hand gpu. Is there a major difference between Ryzen 3 and 5 chips for DCS ? Is it better to go for a earlier generation 5/7 or get a newer generation 3 Is it better to go amd for the better upgrade path, there are only skylake and kaby lake in my price range. My usage wouldn’t be much more than browsing and dcs I also have reasonable expectations regarding image quality etc. I have been looking at ryzen 7 2700 but that would leave me with a single stick rather than a Hotas I’m in the uk which affects prices but I have a budget of £600 with a firm cap of £700 depends on how much I get for my rc cars I’m selling
  13. Hi I’m currently selling an old plane motor on eBay. It’s made by Electronic Developments is it the same company ? And another picture
  14. I heard the legend, because most people are right handed if you pass on the left on your horse it’s easier to draw your sword than if you pass on the right. It’s only like urban legend
  15. Hi what’s RADAR terrain layer? Sorry for being a little dumb
  16. I have exactly the same problem, it’s so bad on deck that I cannot spawn any ai on the carrier with me because they either crash into me or themselves. It doesn’t matter if it’s part of my flight or a separate group. I also can’t choose where I spawn my aircraft on deck to minimise this situation. I always spawn next to cat 1 and AI (whether wingman or individual) crashes into me. The only way to launch is to start the mission on the catapult. They also do it on land. I tried to take off from land with my wingman and he crashes into me while taxiing, it’s like he is trying to beat me to the runway to get up first. Unfortunately it greatly detracts from the usability of the addon. It seems the AI issues we had in the carriers previously but multiplied. I followed wags tutorial for building a carrier mission to the letter but still with no results. And yes I know it’s EA but it really is a ground breaking bug and it should be one of the priorities for being fixed. I’ll attach a track if need be
  17. I don’t have them enabled anyway they distract me a lot, I might enable them for a little eye candy while I’m sat on the ramp but apart from that I don’t use them
  18. I had performance problems with the takeoff mission the FPS dropped down to 45 from solid 60 as I was taxiing past the aircraft on the flight line, some where tomcat and some where bugs. Although I’ve loaded up a single player mission with 4 wingmen and had no trouble I’ve got a 1080ti i7 6700 32 gb ram
  19. Is anyone having trouble opening the link to the pdf ? it loads 90% then stops
  20. Is there any information from Razbam regarding this issue ? Honestly I don’t think it’s normal
  21. So it is a bug then
  22. I thought it could that but I’ve not had that in any aircraft in dcs, I pulled into level flight and the speed held at 800 km/ч it wouldn’t slow down unless I deployed air brakes. I’ll make a track this evening and add it to this post
  23. I’m not sure if it’s real behaviour or I was doing something wrong but I couldn’t get the engine RPM to drop below 10000 rpm it would only drop when I fiddled with the afterburner on off and the military power one. To add I was in a dive as I was approaching an airfield. I’ve only flown the plane once so maybe it was user error I kind of “winged” the start up
  24. Just did a puppy happy wee
