  1. As an XP user myself (and patiently waiting for the next beta version) I was slightly surprised at the lack of howling over this bug. Then I got to thinking how about old XP is and how few are still running it. I never saw the need to upgrade to Vista but this feels a bit like the step from Win 95 to 98 - something i will have to do sooner rather than later.
  2. edit again - I may be getting confused - DCS world version hasn't actually been updated has it?
  3. Hi Eddie, The one discussed here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=87957 The GUI comes up OK but won't do any 3D stuff and dumps you straight to the mission debrief. Actually I've tried installing the DCS world update and still have the same behaviour. Edit - Yes the second post - That's the MP error. SP behaves as above
  4. Can someone confirm if 32 bit is fixed for this release please? Be good to know before I burn through my monthly download allowance.
  5. Well, just tried a couple of approaches being extra careful about getting configured and taking care not to be ham fisted with the joystick. Problem gone away. Move along, nothing to see here...
  6. Don't have the manual to hand right now, but I'm wondering about this too. What I'm seeing is an oscillation in yaw and pitch when in landing configuration. Speed is generally between 110 - 150 and trim is correct, I think, with elevator and aileron neutral and rudder centering the ball. Full flaps. Probably me, but from the reading I've done there's no mention of this behaviour. Cheers!
  7. I'm seeing that too. Thought it might be due to beta Nvidia drivers, but looks like it's not. XP here on game medium settings
  8. You can get well over the IAS warning limit without colliding rotors if you are carefull. As stated, dropping collective goes a long way. Isn't it usually over-application of right rudder that causes the collision? It's not something I've had happen for a very long time. MSFFB helps, I think.
  9. Thanks, guys. Sounds like what I did should have worked. I'd already rearmed and watched the repair process (very cool effect as the shark renews, bounces on it's suspension and the rotors undulate with the recoil). Having slept on it, I'm thinking the joystick issue was the real problem - it's force centre was at full right bank while the helo centre position was normal. Even with my hand off the stick and leaving it in a normal S&L position the autopilot didn't seem to have it's authority. Almost like flying with no AP channels.
  10. Playing MP this evening I took my damaged bird back to the farp for rearm and repair. I'd taken out a lot of armour so was pleased to get the bird home again. Usually I end up as a smoking wreck. Tonight was good. Anyway, I thought I'd just shutdown the fuel valves, flip the battery switches and wait for repair. Needless to say the Shark was not a happy bunny when I fired up the apu and restarted and gave me some 'interesting' handling. Is there a quick shutdown procedure? Sim time is tight and much as I like flipping every switch... Other problem was after the shutdown and restart my MSFFB decided it's centre position was way over, despite trimming. Anyone come across this? I know, I'm a terrible pilot.
  11. Just to add something to the joystick discussion... I've just replaced my old MSFFB stick with a used MSFFB2 from ebay. This one is USB while the original was gameport (the sound card does not play well with my new mobo and causes input spikes to the gameport joystick). The new joystick is a revelation (had not realised how tired the old one had got) and cost all of £30. I tried to buy carefully and it seems to have paid off. I'm still using XP so not sure if the stick plays well with newer windows. Anyway, all I've had to do is reverse the FF axis (saw an earlier post with someone mentioning the stick moving the wrong way when trimming). So... my point is why not consider trying a used Force Feedback Sidewinder 2. They can be had pretty cheap if you keep an eye out. Because of the way they work there's no dead zone in the centre position and control is very fine. A little short of buttons, so not good for A10 but enough for the shark, I think. Whatever you get, enjoy it!
  12. I may have upgraded my Russian version to the English one... ...but don't tell anyone. No problems.
  13. Yah I been using ATPSS for a while now. Discovered it soon after installing and using it most every flight. Actually it's also applicable following VSI positive indication.
  14. Guys - I seem to remember an issue with engine restarts. Not sure if it was a bug or not, but even sat at a farp, an engine would not restart. A while since I tried. Ring any bells with anyone?
  15. That's a trip down memory lane. I remember the plastic lens for Tomakawk. This was when software could be copied tape-to-tape. Other sims used the words from the manual - enter the Nth word in Paragraph N on page N. Back when manuals really were manuals. I don't recall the gameplay in tomahawk, only the excitement when it came out. Sims then were just getting some realism. I had all those early combat sims up to Falcon 2 on the Amiga. Those were the days!
  16. Oh yes, underspeed your rotors and see! I find it happens in a VR situation where you only just recover (and pull lots of collective). Obviously such a situation is not a planned one! Can be the result of too much beer and KA50 mixed. I tend to drop the throttle by one notch when landed (to help keep the helo stable while refueling/re-arming) and the skval switches off then as well.
  17. I think you lose some electrical power (generators drop off-line) if your rotor speed gets too low. Autopilots are one of the things you lose - usually the Skval goes off as well. The best way to keep rotor RPM up is to be gentle with the collective, even under high stress moments (which is when I can get very ham-fisted!). Cheers!
  18. I believe that was an unfinished project originally intended to be included in the final release. Memory says it was an 'official' mod, not an ED product. I do not know why it was never finished (or even released part complete). Cheers!
  19. Well, I know how rain looks in fixed wing flight and the aircraft I was in didn't need a wiper... I imagine it's quite different in RW. Guess I need that number!:D Not just 'how much' but also 'how' the rain might appear, btw.
  20. Lots of variables... My question needs a RL helo pilot, I think!
  21. Exactly how much rain etc would appear on the windscreen with two contra-rotating hair driers in close proximity? Just asking. I really have no idea.
  22. Does the helo drift with the wind in AH?
  23. Quick question - In the sim, does wind affect a Ka-50 in autohover?
  24. I had to manually set throttle to "Slider 1" - it would not detect. I think I first cleared the existing assignment and then added... Slider 1 was in the drop down list. Hope that helps?
  25. Noticed this too.
