reported Blind, non-aggressive AI fighters
Hog_driver replied to Hog_driver's topic in Aircraft AI Bugs (Non-Combined Arms)
I have no idea, I only fly SP. But something's rotten in DCS and it's annoying as hell. -
Hello, I'm experimenting a bit with the Channel Bomber Intercept mission. I replace fighter types, ammo types, change AI setting, etc. I usually shoot down a bomber or five, get shot to pieces in the process and crash land or bail out. No sweat though, the bombers don't carry any bombs anyway, so it's just target practice. When I'm out of action, I like watching what other planes are doing, so I just press F2 and enjoy the show. Or do I? The German fighters aren't really determined to fire at the bombers, mostly just follow them to Manston. And while the bombers are landing, some badly damaged, the Kurfursts and Doras are just lazily circling around, ignoring the fat targets just below them. All right, sometimes they shoot a bit, bit it's not turkey shooting I was hoping for. What's going on? The landing bombers should be shredded to pieces. Setting AI to Ace doesn't help. I could add a track file (probably broken) or a TacView file, but I encourage you to see for yourself. Regards

Once again, my favourite Channel Bomber Intercept mission (modified). Out of 12 B-17s, only one returned to England (but kindly crashed upon landing). So in total, 11 bombers were shot down by me and other fighters, but only the 5 shot down by me were shown in the score table.

More Aircraft types of Bombers ww2 Please
Hog_driver replied to snak's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
We should at least get an AI B-24. -
I guess this scenario is much more realistic in the Kurfurst because I quickly run out of ammo and have no chance to "spray and pray" at more bombers. Once I attacked a B-17 from its 6 o'clock and got hit, then I realised that there was another bomber at my 3 o'clock, I almost flew in formation with it and it was firing at me. I sometimes suck so bad at this game that it's depressing...

Thank you Bremspropeller, these are interesting facts. I thought that in my "war winning" mission I might just got lucky and got rookie AI in the bombers, so I've made some more tests. As before, the mission is a modified Bomber Intercept mission from the Channel map. I replaced the Bf-109 with Anton with anti-bomber, HE ammo. I attacked from 6 o'clock because I'm not good enough to hit anything with frontal, slashing attacks. The enemy force consisted of 12 B-17s (3 x 4), no escort. With bomber AI set to Rookie, I shot down 6 then had to bail out due to damage. With AI set to Ace, I shot down 5 bombers, had to bail out. Anyway, not bad, one fighter lost for 5 bombers. I think that it's a bit too easy to set the B-17 on fire. It's fun, but not realistic I'm afraid.

From time to time, I fly the Kurfurst and Anton against B-17s to get an idea how difficult it must have been for German pilots to try do defend the Reich against "viermots". I completed the Jagdflieger campaign and spent a few hours flying the Anton, so I can't call myself experienced. However, according to the debriefing screen, I was able to shoot down (in one mission) 3 B-17s flying the Kurfurst and as many as 7 B-17s flying the Anton. It was the Channel Bomber Intercept mission, slightly modified. I know that four 20 mm cannons are no joke, but 7 Flying Fortresses seem to be too much. IIRC, Franz Stigler shot down two in one day in a Bf-109. So something seems to be a bit off, either the guns are too effective or the bombers too vulnerable (why not both?). (Bomber AI was set to Random, so gunners' effectiveness varied).

Hello people, Today I noticed again that propeller blade tips are bent in the direction of rotation whereas, I think, they should be bent in the opposite direction. (The red arrow in the picture shows the direction of rotation). I know that this is not exactly a deal breaker, show stopper or game-breaking bug and DCS has much more serious issues. But how much longer will we have to put up with such a blatant violation of the laws of physics?

I flew a few missions in the Bf-109 and FW-190 against B-17s and watching tracks I noticed that bomber machine guns don't sound as the M2 but rather as the Minigun or another high firing-rate weapon. PS. I just realized some M2s had a higher firing rate, so maybe it's correct as is. Disregard then.

Information about R-60 Missiles used as air to ground missile.
Hog_driver replied to Varioss's topic in Military and Aviation
I was once also looking for this information, unfortunately didn't find much. I asked a Russian-speaking friend for help, but he was not of much use (not military-minded, you know). Anyway, you can check out this article: https://topwar.ru/21468-vertushki-afganistan-mi-24.html?fbclid=IwAR3aG7eYK4BsglolFCZxdSt29bhswvYKUvWWkEQGf_bLO2EazncOqPRT1GY A fragment you may find interesting: Для воздушных целей предназначались Р-60 на левом пилоне, правая АПУ была наклонена вниз, чтобы ее тепловая ГСН могла захватить наземную «горячую» цель — костер или двигатель автомашины. По результатам испытаний Р-60 на вертолетах, однако, было известно, что ракеты по подобным воздушным целям с малой тепловой контрастностью не очень эффективны и способны захватить чужой вертолет максимум с 500-600 м, а поршневого «нарушителя» и того меньше. -
A.k.a. The Bombardment. Has anybody seen that movie? From what I've heard, it's rather decent (although it's not an aviation movie). There's some Mosquito action (bombing of the Gestapo's headquarters in Copenhagen. Just wanted to let you know.

"All things serve the beam", don't you know?

Comanche Gold? What about LHX then?

I spent a lot of time flying Phantoms and shooting down MiG-21s in Chuck Yeager's Strike Eagle III was great (I had to figure out the switchology by myself) but it was hardly playable on my 386 (low fps and stuff).

There were some other sims later on, but the most "playable" for me was A.C.E. (Air Combat "Emulator", LOL) on the C-64. Then, when I finally got my first PC, I could play F-19 Stealth Fighter and it was more complex by an order of magnitude (mission and weapon selection, waypoints) and I loved it!
-
YOU are old? My first sim was Flight Simulator on ZX Spectrum and, a few months later, Spitfire Ace on C-64!
-
I see, thank you.

If I'm not mistaken, the cross isn't flashing in the F-16C when the target's been locked on properly. Does it mean that symbology has been implemented properly in the F-16C but not in the A-10C? Or does it work differently in these 2 aircraft? (I.e. flashes in the Warthog and doesn't in the Viper).
