It is clear that ED has no intention of making period compatible planes set, because they are jumping 1945 to 1942/3 and vice versa. If they had 44/45 plane set FW190D K-4 and P-51D why they put 1942 spitfire ? Makes no sense for me.
-
I'm not sure. i'm not expert on taildraggers. I performed couple more tests with other planes, like Spitfire , P-47 and Fw190 A8 results are that only Spitfire had tendency to turn in to the wind, and i must say it was almost impossible to turn left while taxing when wind was from right side, and at take off Spitfire was pulling in to the wind so hard that minimal power made rudder almost ineffective it was at the verge of capabilities to take off with 20kts left cross wind. P-47 and Fw190 acted like P-51 but they were easier to take off but this was after i did couple tries with P-51 so maybe my skills went higher. Why P-47 and Fw190 and P-51 are pulling away to the wind i don't know

@maajr57 I found a mission, i must say 20kts cross wind is pretty absurd for P-51 when planes like 737 can handle 30 kts cross winds, depends on runway conditions. How can any one expect to be easy to do that kind of take off, i doubt that any P-51 pilot would do that now. I managed after couple tries does not look perfect but i managed.

Actually B and C are exact the same just made in difrent factory iirc.
-
What about P51 C don't forget about this one too.

I don't have this Campaign. Can you tell me what weather conditions are on this mission i will try replicate it in mission editor so i will get better understanding of this.

Unable to feather either engine since 2.8 update.
grafspee replied to bart's topic in Bugs and Problems
No damage, prop at beginning is feathering but at point where should stop rotating, it comes back to normal operation. Track included. Feathering.trk Thing is that for feathering you push it and prop will feather, once feather is done button should pop out, If you want unfeather prop you push feathering button again and hold it until prop get above 800rpm then release button. So if for feather button it is working as should, but somehow prop spins up once it get close to stop. -
I just tested it again, in my testing i used 8lbs boost and 3000rpm then i reduced rpm to 2650 and speed gain was around 4 kts, boost remain constant due to automatic boost controller. In boost range where boost controller does not work, reducing rpm makes gain on MAP so speed gain would be greater there. Best way to notice it is to make steady 8lbs 26500 cruise then pull rpm to max and you can notice speed drop very easy especially on F2 view, speedo in spit is very wobbly:)
-
Should try with p51 this one is affected the most
-
Op is talking that in some planes by reducing rpm you get more thrust. And this also happens in DCS but gains are small and OP expect gains on average about 15kts
-
Ofc i agree but, lower rpm don't come from thin air. So by setting low rpm average pitch of prop through out flight is higher. So at constant MAP and speed in some way pitch can be controlled by indirect means
-
So why did you type this in previous post that we can't change pitch in constant speed prop? We can even with out touching prop lever.
-
@Ala13_ManOWar actually by changing CSU set rpm you are affecting prop pitch, it is balance between velocity and aoa of the blade, low rpm setting increase pitch by cost of blade velocity. So blade has parasitics and induced drag and at some sweet spot both are the lowest and here prop will make the most thrust here.
-
@Ramon767 maybe cyvilian planes are rigged difrently take note that max speed is a little higher then cruise speed. And another important thing is that in war time fighters pilot would never pull rpm down before throttle. That would be abnormal procedure
-
Actually it does, at least last time i checked, but don't expect difrences being big. Depends on engine prop type alt, many variables are involved. You may gain 1mph by doing so. Can you tell us which real plare are you refering to?
-
It is not, auto and low blower positions are not spring loaded, only high blower position is spring loaded. I did it a lot to remain at low blower when i fighting close to switch alt so supercharger gearbox dont switch low to high and vice versa.
-
If it comes to rpm, those engines are equipped with supercharger driven by crankshaft, and power out put depends on alt too. When you are using low MAP let say 30 inch and you set 3000 rpm at low alt. Supercharger is operated at max speed becouse engine rpm is 3000, so supercharger power requirements are very high and this lost power won't get to the prop. If you lower rpm in that case supercharger power draw will drop so power on the prop shaft will increase, so in some cases you may fly faster at lower rpm. This is why that if you operate engine at low mp you reduce rpm, you gain fuel economy with no lose of performance. P51's supercharger can put out 67' at 3000rpm at 8000ft at deck it could do more so in theory if you fly at deck you dont need 3000rpm to get 67' so by reducing rpm a little bit you may gain on this in terms of speed. Quetion is, can engine take that power setting.
-
You could have move switch to low gear, by simple miss click, check this out too. There is no way to supercharger high gear won't kick in at 25k, this is a bug or supercharger control unit was forced to stay at low gear.

I will comment on mixture topic. Dcs spitfire is equipped with injection type carb with automatic mixture. So pilot has no ability to control mixture manually, we have mixture cut out for shutting engine off and run position for every else. Same with p51, p47 has 2 position mixture for operation auto lean and auto rich, but no intermediate positions are avilable. Spitfire's carb will lean mixture automatically depend on power settings of the engine. Can you elaborate how rpm not affecting top speed.

I think you need to hold feather button till rpm on engine drops below certain value, iirc it was 700rpm, if this does not work, then probably some buggy buggy came in :P -
This one went sideways a lot. Any way i find P-51 the most stable plane on the ground, you have to do something wrong if you are drifting it sides way during landing or take off.

Why would you extend gear at 370KPH ? a little too fast i would say for that. In extremes situation like colliding with other plane, damage visualization may not match with actual damage.
-
@funkster Exactly switching in to emergency will drain O2 very fast. If it comes to O2 use, Axis plane require to open valve, Allies planes require nothing, you are good to go.
