Any thoughts on this? I come from a VOR navigation type and apply it to this TACAN which is basically the same so I'm trying to wrap my head around itr. Maybe I'm not getting the HSI symbology right? v6, boNes

I'm thinking the timer post drop must be based on the data at the time of the drop, not just a generic timer otherwise how would it know when the bomb will hit at 0 seconds? For example, if it was a simple timer, and the bomb impacts at 0 seconfs if you dropped at angels 10, it wouldn't impact at 0 seconds if you dropped again at angels 20. The bomb always seems to hit at right around 0 seconds no matter what altitude you dropped at. Thanks! v6, boNes

Had that happen once too but unlike you I couldn’t find another target in time haha. Thanks

Yeah that has been what I have experienced as well. Thanks! v6, boNes

Also, the e-bracket, both in real life and in the sim, is also useless. It is ratchety and not very functional. The VV on the other hand, IRL is very accurate in the sim while IRL it is not. Funny how that works, eh? v6, boNes

Thanks. So what I was doing after a while was designating, dropping the bomb, then if I saw it was off, area track, slew/adjust the laser, then designate again. This seemed to work but then I lose my TTI info as it changes to TTG. That makes sense from your post since re-designating caused it to change delivery info. I would as a safeguard manually lase the target even if it was set to auto because since TTI turned to TTG, I don't think the computer knows to start lasing automatically at 10 seconds to impact...so I have to do it for the LANTIRN. Another time I dropped, then area designated, slewed/adjusted, but did not redesignate. I still had TTI, and the LANTIRN knew to auto lase. Usually both ways I would still hit the target. The danger was that sometimes if I slew/adjusted the laser, it would lose track and drift away, and I wouldn't be able to catch it on time to put it back on target. Hence why as I safeguard I would area tack before slewing/adjusting. v6, boNes

OK, so let's say you find a target, and you designate it with LANTIRN. Then as you get closer and get a better image int he LANTIRN you see you're designation is off target a bit. If you move the crosshairs to where you want to correct, but do not designate again, when you fire the laser, is the laser firing at the new undesignated point in your crosshairs, or at the last designated point? I've tried correcting without redesignation and with and both seem to yield the same result, whether I use manual or auto lasing. Any thoughts? Thanks. v6, boNes

Your AOA indexer is working---it just has lousy visibility. There is discussion back and forth ranging from how there's no point to fix it right now just so ED will change something that will mess it up again, to well, IRL you might have the sun on it and you can't see it or you just have to deal with it but until they have a keybind for "shield sunglare with hand over instrument" you're screwed. It used to be that you could see it pretty well, but now it's practically useless which is too bad because it's an important instrument. I also find that the IFLOLS never seems to match what the ship's IFLOLS indicates...nor the ILS needles--and the LSO calls contradict these things too...but OK so someone said the LSO isn't compatible with the Tomcat yet, so OK, that explains that. v6, boNes

Sometimes when I am headed toward a TACAN station, the HSI CDI needle shows a TO indication, but the HUD TACAN bearing needles are dashed, indicating FROM. Or vice verse. Is this a bug? I would think that the bearing needle in the HUD and VDI should correspond to what the HSI indicates (or vice versa). v6, boNes

OK, thanks. But I also was still getting no response. We finally got a response when my pilot transmitted on the UHF freq on the AN/ARC-159 instead. I think on a separate time I had a freq tuned in but when I transmitted, it automatically went to guard. Just been acting weird lately. v6, boNes

So I was tuning the radio in the RIO seat to 128.500. It changed fine, but when I transmitted, the display showed 128.501 and no one responded. Anyone know what’s up with that? v6, boNes

Oh, HiFlyer, I found it, thanks: https://www.flightliteracy.com/turns-part-one-standard-rate-turns/ v6, boNes

Oh, that sounds easy enough, thanks! I'll try it out. Where did you get that formula? Maybe I was shown that in flight school but don't remember since I had a turn coordinator to use anyhow. v6, boNes
-
OK, I ll check it out, thanks. BUt the Tomcat doesn't have an EADI so what then? Also (I don't know who GB is) but GB says "you can do any shape pattern you like" which might be fine in the open air over the ocean in a military setting but ashore, say coming into a civilian US airport, the FAA isn't going to want you to do any shape pattern you like when they tell you to do a hold. v6, boNes

So in the MArshall you are to have 2 minute turns and 1 minute legs. Which is to say for the turn that it should take you 2 minutes to make a complete circle. Which means in terms of the Marshall you should turn for 1 minute to turn around 180 degrees of heading. Now in a civilian airplane, you have a turn coordinator to indicate that you are doing a two minute turn. But you have no such instrument in say the Tomcat or Hornet. So, how do you measure a two minute turn in aircraft such as this? By angle of bank? Or something else? Maybe it doesn't matter since it is military and you will be out in the middle of the ocean--but what if you are flying ashore under civilian ATC and you are told to do a hold at such and such fix? How do you measure a two minute turn in aircraft without turn coordinators? Thanks! v6, boNes

Recluse, FYI, I did this in SP and it was working without TDC having to be in FLIR until around this past week. Now It has to be, even in SP. v6, boNes

The RIO it's the HERO - Give them credit for their kills!
bonesvf103 replied to Chimango's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Yeah I had to fire Phoenix and Sparrow from the back when my human pilot's HOTAS stopped working...I got the kill, he credited it to me, not ED/DCS haha. v6, boNes -
In that video, in the LMAV page, there is now a huge 1688 code in bold at the top "headline." This is new, right? On mine, I have this but also on the right side of the circular field of view, there is an equally large "5". What is this? I tried looking it up in the manual but my manual still has a May date on it. v6, boNes

Issues in Backseat and Strange Popup Message in F-14B MP
bonesvf103 posted a topic in DCS: F-14A & B
My buddy and I were flying in the F-14 and a weird pop up window appeared that said simply "Someone Have Control." Both he and I saw it on our individual PCs. Anyone know what this is? We were having what appeared to be huge lag issues. For instance, he had raised the gear but if I went to external view it would show it was down and if I looked over his shoulder his cockpit instrumentation showed they were down too. Also my clickable switches in my RIO seat worked, but not any of my HOTAS controls (like the HCU). Anyone experience any of this? v6, boNes -
When that happens try selecting ATRK or PTRK. and it will stop the slewing. Then you can manually slew the view to where you want then designate. v6, boNes

I had a GBU that I was using it with, to get it to be like dropping in CCRP mode, with a JTAC lasing. It seemed to always overfly the target and miss. If I did Computer Pilot mode, it would hit. Target was a SAM site. v6, boNes
-
Has anyone successfully dropped in Computer Target mode? I have been trying but they always seem to overshoot. I set the designator on the target and then designate it and the bomb drops when the cue hits the VV, but they never hit. Anyone else have any luck? v6, boNes

BTW, I noticed on CASE I recovery instant action Syria mission (Supercarrier version) that the briefing says the boat is TACAN 71X but it doesn't work. 74X works however. Also on the Syria Inherent Resolve mission to bomb the chemical plant, in the briefing page 1 picture 1 of 4, there are 2 Building A labels and 1 Building C label but no building B. They are labeled correctly in picture 2 of 4--I hit the buildings as shown in picture 2 and got a mission success. Thanks for all these missions! Strangely enough I checked my Hornet and Falcon instant action and regular missions and didn't see any for Syria, so I think HB were the only ones to make some! v6, boNes

I did too! 100 out of 100! I flew back to Incirlik and landed with my tailhook down to show off (Navy) then taxied to the front of the tower and "flapped" my wings and made the Tomcat take a bow (launch bar down/launch bar up) like they do at airshows to rub it in some more, haha. I also killed the F-15 with just guns in less than 5 minutes and I successfully completed the Bekaa Valley devi;s edge mission, but that was easy with Phoenix...the Fishbeds ran after those kills. v6, boNes

It's on! $39.99 on Steam which is the 20% off of $49.99 that ED was talking about. v6, boNes
