Ohhh...thanks. Either that wasn't in the video tutorial or I missed it. I did however see in the video that the little propeller in the back is not for propulsion, but for powering the eye, so, yes, it should have occurred to me that the weapon is ballistic. v6, boNes

I noticed this has the "investigating" tag. Any news? v6, boNes

I posted about this in another thread and several other people noted they have the issue as well: Whatever is your current waypoint, the Jester menu shows it as being +1 that waypoint. ie, if you tell Jester to select WP1, and he says OK and does it, the next time you open the Jester menu, it will show Current Destination WP2. So, is that a bug or am I missing something? v6, boNes _______

[BUG] Home base waypoint incorrect via Jester via F10 map

So I looked at this again and from my testing it seems that whatever is your current waypoint, the Jester menu shows it as being +1 that waypoint. ie, if you tell Jester to select WP1, and he says OK and does it, the next time you open the Jester menu, it will show Current Destination WP2. So, is that a bug or am I missing something? v6, boNes

I've noticed lately if I tell Jester to, for instance, set us to waypoint 2, then later open the Jester menu to the navigation menu again, it shows that he has set us to a different waypoint. Is this a bug? v6, boNes

Coming over from an F-14 Tomcat mentality and using TWS there where you can have 20/4 or 40/2 az/bar scan, you get pretty used to managing targets in the same volume (especially since TWS-A isn't working in the Tomcat right now). So it made it easy for me to pick up TWS in the Bug. That said, i don;t think there is too much practical use for TWS when you are on the cusp of WVR/BVR. At that point, you are now going into a dogfight situation and the pilot controlled locks are the main tool for killing the target (HACQ, uncaged Sidewinders, etc). v6, boNes

On our server we noticed that with the new update, no matter what aircraft you choose, if you choose an aircraft that is not in slot 1 of available aircraft, DCS will crash. We think maybe the missions have to be saved under the new update in mission editor then reloaded into the server? Maybe? v6, boNes

Cool! Yes, the GBU does rotate---I don't know which one specifically or if it is all of the laser guided ones, but at least one laser guided GBU does rotate. Also it would be great if the ball on the carrier was brighter and more distinct--the whole IFLOFS really. Even Victory remarked about this in a way saying the radar dome above it needs to be painted a different color like in real life and as it is now it is easily mistaken for the meatball. Plus the meatball and datum lights are hard to see even in the groove. I find myself "spotting the deck" most of the time rather than looking at the ball because of that. But like I said, subtle details. 99.9% of everything else is so great, thanks so much! v6, boNes

Thanks I'll try that, although I'm not too sure how much difference it will make. I only say that because I was in a hurry making the video (not enough time to do things and have a life haha) so I may have just rushed it for the purpose of making the video quickly. But again, my biggest suspicion is how I can approach from any direction I choose in the Maverick mission and the JTAC clears me hot...unless the Maverick mission is broken, heh. v6, boNes

I was wondering are there any plans to add the Mach cone that occurs when you approach supersonic on a day with enough humidity? Or even the cone when you actually break the barrier? By this I mean the cone shaped cloud that forms about the fuselage as the moisture gets squeezed out of the air at high speeds. Also, I was wondering about the physics of some weapons as they travel through the air after drop/launch. I would imagine that a Mk82, subject to airflow and its natural induced drag would rotate about its longitudinal axis as it falls like how and GBU that you drop does when you go to external view. But dumb bombs, JDAMs, cluster bombs before deployment, all seem to stay the same static objects as they fall. In short, the attachment point of the weapon to the pylon is always on the top of the weapon as it falls, the weapon doesn't rotate as it falls. Maybe I'm wrong, but it doesn't seem right. Maybe the same as missiles, but for that I'm not so sure it would rotate. Just wondering because there are so many subtle details that DCS accounts for that I am so impressed with I wonder if they can add these things too. Adds greatly to the already great realism and detail! Thanks! v6, boNes

One thing I noticed. In the previous replies it was stressed that you have to attack from the direction that JTAC is telling you or they will call abort. I was flying the stock Maverick missions and they gave me a direction of attack. At one point they said egress east. I ingressed from the east, egressing west, and I still got a cleared hot and was able to fire the laser Maverick and have it hit. So now I'm not so sure that your direction per JTAC matters. v6, boNes

I've been practicing with the Walleye under guidance from Wags' video and I'm having some issues and questions. First of all, when I'm attacking the target that is surrounded by these cargo pieces, the Walleye appears to lock on (WE is not crossed in the HUD) but it always hits one of the cargo pieces instead of the target. Any ideas how to get it to lock on to the target without the cargo piece shielding it? There is no FOV control on the Walleye screen right? For the other targets, the armor sitting out without shield, I would lock one on, and when I launch, the Walleye appears to be guiding properly but then it suddenly just drops out of the sky and runs into the ground short of the target. I thought maybe since it uses a TV camera that maybe something broke line of sight, so I came back and made sure the run coming in was clear, no hills, no obstructions. Same thing happened. How come? I also wonder what altitude you should be when launching. If I go high so I can see down on the target more and avoid locking the cargo shelves, then I can't get the seeker head to depress down far enough to lock the target, unless I nose dive in which case I lose altitude thenI don't think the Walleye has enough time to guide and so it falls short. If I'm too low, I get more LOS issues and the Walleye can't seem to have the altitude to track properly. Now the datalink. I have the Walleye locked on and have the DL tuned into the correct channel and am getting good video feed. But if I want to change targets or adjust the current one, I can't get the Walleye to slew. Are you not able to when you have the DL on until after launch? When I press the WE button again to slew, it kills the lock and the video feed and so I have to start all over again and by then I'm overflying the target. If my target lock and selection is fine and I fire the Walleye, when I try to steer it via the DL it always seems to go crazy tracking the target and my steering inputs at the last second, then it misses. What's the trick? Thanks. v6, boNes And again--when slewing the Walleye before locking on, is there a FOV option?

Thanks but what is that repetitive beeping sound, the one that i described as Atari PacMan? v6, boNes

ok, thanks all. And that 16 bit sounding tone like Atari PacMan eating pellets is just saying the Sidewinder is active and looking? v6, boNes

OK, just double checking because in Wags' AIM-9X video, he says to hold it down. It's an older video though so I don't know if that had changed or not. v6, boNes
-
So when I hit the cage/uncage button, does it uncage when I press it, but as soon as I release it, it will cage again? ie, when firing a 9X at a target, once you get him in his HMCS reticle, you want to hold down the button until you pull the trigger, or just hit the button once and that's enough? v6, boNes

Here's a track. It's a bit sloppy as I was trying to get through the calls ASAP but the point is you can see that I was flying in what I would think is a good direction. There a a couple of times I drop my nose so you can see where the JTAC is, where the target is, and how I was flying to avoid passing over the JTAC or even pointing at him. The times it did clear me in, I think I was at ingress heading of 090 give or take 5 degrees. I mean it seemed VERY sensitive to you being off heading even a little bit. Also, when I make a good drop, and they clear me to re-attack, and I come back--or if they tell me to abort and I come back and they say IP inbound you'll see that I don't get an option to say laser on. So even though I get cleared hot, they never lase. I think in one instance when I do get a laser on I had to fly something like 10+ miles away before calling IP inbound. Or, of course, check out, then check back in after which I have to go through the whole process all over again. Also here is video: v6, boNes GBU.trk

I re-watched Wags' video on GBUs and he is flying the same mission I was, and his approach is the same as well. They say egress east but he approaches from the NW and he doesn't get an abort command. I did everything he did in the same sequence. I also flew this mission many times before (I'm just starting to get back into the Hornet again after many Tomcat hours) without this happening so that's why I wonder if something changed in the mission since I last flew it. v6, boNes
