I just wasted my time installing DCS 2.5
gordon200 replied to Stickman's topic in Installation Problems
David, Just today I've run DCS Repair 4 times. DCS only starts in VR and immediately locks up. -

zhukov said " You can do everything possibly necessary from the updater itself. Do a little search in the forums and save yourself a lot of trouble." I have been doing nothing BUT reading the f'in forums and using the updater/repair apps for the past three days and haven't found a solution. As mentioned above the other flight sim is much more user friendly. I don't need the level of difficulty so many people are experiencing with DCS. YOU do a little research and look at the forums of the two flight sims and judge for yourself which is a more pleasant environment. Read the comments of the users and compare. The last time I asked for help on this forum I was essentially told to get lost. I commented in someone's thread about a problem I was having that was similar and perhaps related to the author's but was accused of high jacking the topic. -

David OC, There was no 'options.lua' in my saved games> dcs> config. I created a folder with that name but DCS Config Mgr didn't recognize it. -

I share your frustration, Stickman. I've been unable to access the game in normal mode today. It loads in VR then locks up. I'm unable to move the cursor. I have alt+cntl+del a dozen times. The DCS Config Manager isn't working and to get help with that I need to download yet another app and disclose my contact info to another party like reddit. Something I don't want to do. I have a lot of time and money wrapped up in this and it's just not working out for me. There are far too many problems to overcome just for a few minutes of what should be an enjoyable experience. I'm deleting everything DCS tonight. -
I was faced with a similar problem when I switched from TM pedals to the VKB Mk IV that have no toe brakes. The way I have set up for toe brakes is to assign them to my joystick twist action. Since you are no longer using that function for rudder control and it has a progressive scale it seems natural to me. While taxiing simply twist the grip in the direction you want to steer just as you would without pedals. You'll need to assign a button for applying both brakes as in the Spitfire for that function to work. Warthog etc have a pinky trigger but any slider will work. One word of caution. You must remember not to twist the joystick out of habit when landing or taking off or you'll put your plane in the ditch. I hope this helps.

The way I have set up for toe brakes is to assign them to my Gladiator II joystick twist action. Since you are no longer using that function for rudder control and it has a progressive scale it seems natural to me. While taxiing simply twist the grip in the direction you want to steer just as you would without pedals. You'll need to assign a button for applying both brakes as in the Spitfire for that function to work. Warthog etc have a pinky trigger. With the VKB pedals your heel is on the floor not sitting in a cup a couple inches above it. The response is very precise and they return to center position smoothly as you release pressure without snapping in place. Same feeling from the Gladiator II (non pro). When you need to apply rudder the motion on lowering my foot instead of twisting both my legs left and right is not only a lot less work but more natural. Imagine the difference between riding on a surfboard and Alpine skiing. Haha

If you want VRFree Gloves when flying DCS.....
gordon200 replied to lasvideo's topic in Virtual Reality
Very interesting product. http://www.sensoryx.com/product/vrfree_glove_system/ I subscribed twice. Once for each of my email addresses. Hope it helped a little. Best of luck with this project. -
Fantastic! I look forward to your new mod pack.

Understanding Pixel Density - Making sense of it
gordon200 replied to DerekSpeare's topic in Virtual Reality
Thanks again, dburne. I think part of the transition to VR requires getting over the initial feeling of groping around in the dark for control buttons, keyboard etc. Comfort will come with time and experience. Cheers -
Thanks, muehlema. That gives me a starting point to adjust my vision and my expectations. The zoom button feature sounds promising if I only knew how to apply the mod to the file and bind it to a button.

Thanks, dburne So do I also go with default settings for everything else in Nvidia Control panel Msaa, Fxaa etc? -
Understanding Pixel Density - Making sense of it
gordon200 replied to DerekSpeare's topic in Virtual Reality
As a noob to VR I'd appreciate a run down on the best settings at which to begin. There are settings available in the Nvidia Control Panel, Oculus Settings and DCS. Can I set Msaa, Fxaa, PD etc in Nvidia and have it control everything with the others being on default? I'm enjoying the VR experience but can't obtain a crisp picture even with 75 - 80 fps in SP. -
Is it possible for you to give me a quick lesson on how to install and use your mod? I've been struggling with vision clarity in VR wearing glasses and would appreciate the ability to zoom. I'm fairly new to DCS and have had to go through multiple reinstalls to get to where I am now. Merci

I5 2500k and gtx1070 enough for VR?
gordon200 replied to falcon_120's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
The Oculus website has a tool you can use to test your system for compatibility. It will show you the system's strong and weak points. Click on the link under "To run the Rift compatibility check tool:" It's not highlighted. https://support.oculus.com/1357437467617798/ -
I have a friend who is part of the project. He's former curator for the RAF Museum and air show announcer currently residing in the US.

Is this representative for airshows with the Blue Angels?
gordon200 replied to HiJack's topic in Military and Aviation
Wow! What a horrible experience. It appears that is part of routine. The announcer states several times he's Lt Soandso, US Navy member of Blue Angels. -
There seemed to be multiple problems with Steam/Oculus/DCS sync as well as a corrupt GPU driver. So I deleted everything on hard drives down to bare OS and reinstalled. I haven't had the time to fly yet but everything seems to be operating for the moment. I'm taking the opportunity to approach things with a fresh attitude and clean slate. Many thanks for your hard work. Cheers

Would this PC (expecially CPU) be good for DCS?
gordon200 replied to parxuk's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
That may well be but I have a SLI bridge for my existing 1070 for when DCS gets that ability and should get an additional boost with Vulkan as I understand it. Getting off topic here. Gonna stop before I get yelled at. haha -

Have you checked GPU prices in the last few days? I just purchased a new MSI (Nvidia) GTX 1070 Armor 8Gb OC for $639 USD on Amazon this morning. Ten days ago the same card was $9xx. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GXOX2BU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 -
I really sorry to have crashed your thread. Goodbye
-
My apologies. I've only slept a few hours in the past three days trying to find assistance.

I am at my wit's end trying to get this resolved and everyone is telling me to get lost. It's your configuration manager. Can't you offer a suggestion? I posted here on a topic that was similar to my problem and I thought maybe related. I see you're in Va Beach. I'm in Roanoke. I'll pack up my desktop and drive the 3 hours to your place to get this taken care of.

Oh, sorry. I thought you were offering a suggestion as to the cause of the problem(s). Here's the link to what had been a handy tool for me prior to update 4 etc. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=195480
