  1. I’ve had the bindings stop working in the Viper several times. I don’t know what triggers it but I’ll load into the cockpit and be low and off to the side of center. When it happens my keybindings for cockpit camera views will not work in game. If I go to control settings and hit the key I use for say cockpit camera move forward it brings up that input in the list. So it IS working but not doing anything is the virtual world. When this happens I have to move my head position to counter it’s current position and then hit recenter VR headset. Once I do this, the key bindings for the cockpit camera views magically work again lol.
  2. That makes sense. That said, looking at this picture that was obviously taken farther away than the distance of the pilots eyes to the MFD’s, do you think you would be able to see the MFD’s clearly? Here’s another showing the size of the cockpit with a larger pilot..
  3. Yep, mine look about like that with the sun behind me as well. Can you post another screen shot with some contacts from Link16? Hostile contacts, specifically the red ones. Not zoomed in but in your normal reclined flying position. Also with the sun on the nose of the jet?
  4. I’ll try the 18 here in a bit. I do remember getting knocked around some when refueling on the TTI 107th server.
  5. It will work fine. Did you get the OB version or Steam version? The Index will work with either. You need to download the Steam App and Steam VR and install both. Once done, if you have the Open Beta DCS, simply launch it and it will immediately go into your Index. If you have any other Index questions, jump on the Index hands on thread under Input/Output VR category.
  6. The F-16 doesn’t recenter on its own. It is an absolute axis that moves 1:1 with the radar dish when moved. If you have a Cougar TQS or Warthog throttle it works as it should now. Set the Antenna Elevation axis to the Cougar Antenna Elevation. Set the Warthog slider to the the Antenna Elevation. When you move either, the antenna will move up or down with the movement and stay there when you stop moving which is correct. The Hornet switch on the other hand DOES recenter and should stop the radar where it is when you stop holding the switch up or down.
  7. I’ve posted this video before but it’s always cool. This is a ramp start on an F-16C Block 30 in Iraq I believe. At the end the MFD’s fire up and even with the sun on them and reflections from the mechanics they are still clear and easy to read at a glance. There’s no need to lean in at all to see what’s displayed.
  8. Finding a Man Range/Uncage pot that functions like the original is very difficult. Your best bet is a guitar pot. The problem is it’s a center detent, 50K ohm pot with push button. They’re no longer made. The Antenna Elev is a simple 50K ohm, center detent potentiometer.
  9. What aircraft are you flying at the time? I can't say that I have any issues around tankers or other aircraft that cause FPS to plummet though. I fly the Viper pretty much exclusively and whether practicing AAR with the Instant Action mission or online running missions that are already taxing, I've not had an issue with AAR. Sorry I couldn't be of help. My FPS issues relate mainly to spawning assets online and when on the ground which is normal behavior for our HMD's.
  10. So your MFD's look like this? This is a real F-16, the camera used for the picture looks to be on top of the helmet and therefore not at true eye level. Take a look at the second pic. Again another REAL F-16 though this one has the older monochrome MFD's. This one is on display at the Smithsonian. The camera used to take this pic is obviously older as there is blooming on the text in the MFD. Regardless it is VERY bright. If your system looks as clear as these please share you voodoo graphics settings because I can come nowhere close to the brightness and contrast of the MFD's in these pictures. Also would you mind posting a screen shot of your cockpit? Thanks
  11. Index for me. My IPD is 58 so that pretty well decided it. While the 5K+ has adjustable IPD, it had to be all the way in which crushed my nose. I tried using the software IPD but it didn’t help either. Honestly it was a frustrating nightmare altogether. The IPD issue was just one thing, I could never get it to run smoothly with PiTool and steam either and I have the fastest system I could buy. Some people swear by them but not me. The Index is in the same price range and is the highest quality build of everything out there. It doesn’t quite hit the clarity of the Reverb but it’s better than the Rift S by far.
  12. This. Program the slap switch for chaff only or flare only. Typically though, if you need a flare, you need 3 or more.
  13. Thanks for the link. I’ll install and try it tomorrow.
  14. If you’re using 1920x1080 res for your monitor it might not be as difficult to see. I use 3840x1080 on my monitor which crams more detail into a smaller space. 1920x1080 gets less into the screen but makes what you do see larger so it’s possible it will be ok.
  15. If you have trouble with the Hornet and need to zoom in to see clearly, it will be so bad in the Viper you may not be able to use it. At least for the MFD’s. I can see the Hornet DDI’s and MPCD clearly at a glance. I don’t need to lean in at all. Whereas on the Viper I almost always have to zoom to see the vectors of the contacts. Even zoomed the lines and characters are faint. The only time I’ve seen them come close to the way they look in Wags videos is with the sun behind me and zoomed in. Even then they are still faint.
  16. As a fellow 20 year "other sim" flyer, I can say quite confidently that you'll be disappointed with the current look of the MFD's. I have a Valve Index and a Samsung 49" 144Hrz gaming monitor and both are very hard to read. It was easier to see before the release of TWS and Link16. With these features all hostile contacts are red and it's not possible to see their vectors without zooming in. So if you're used to seeing something along the lines of the below screenshot which shows exported MFD's and gauges using Helios and YAME, you will be very unhappy. Keep in mind that the screenshot below is not using the native graphics for the other sim but photo realistic images supplied by YAME. I will also say in ED's defense that the rest of the cockpit in VR and on a monitor blows the other sim out of the water.
  17. Keep the base stations below eye level, that worked for me when I had one.
  18. For a first HMD the S is the best bet, IF your IPD is in the sweet spot which is +- 63.5. This is true for the Reverb as well. I have a an IPD of 58 and can use neither so I’m an Index user and love it. Adjustable IPD and eye relief, highest quality build of all HMD’s but also the most expensive to get into. I had to have 2 base stations to keep tracking when checking six but did not need controllers. Price $800.
  19. That small of an amount won’t make a difference. So I guess it’s hit or miss on the Oculus S. My friends using the Reverb had to make some change to a WMR file, then use SteamVR stable version and WMR beta to get good results. As of tonight I went back to DCS anisotropic filtering at 16x. Like Bob_Bushman I wasn’t seeing any results and objects like trees in the distance were blurry. I set it back to 16x in DCS and it’s cleaned up again with no frame rate hit. So back to the original topic of this post, negative LOD has most definitely sharpened the graphics in the cockpit and made three dimensional objects like knobs stand out for me. It induces shimmering which so far is best handled with setting AA transparency to AA MODE REPLAY ALL. MSAA is better at getting rid of jaggies for sure but at a high frame rate hit and a reduction in spotting targets at distance. These results are on a Valve Index which only uses SteamVR. I’m still encouraged that I can actually use something in the Nvidia driver besides prefer maximum performance and FXAA with 2x MSAA. Hopefully we VR users will have more options soon.
  20. Reduce the Y Saturation in the axis curves.
  21. I believe the radar altimeter works even at high altitude. As to the angle of bank you should notice that the RA box on the HUD goes blank when it can’t receive a radar return. So when banked away from the ground and I assume pitched enough to be almost horizontal (never paid attention to it before) the box will go blank until it receives a return again from the ground (or another jet going under it).
  22. No worries. If you’re referring to the accuracy of tracking a bandit while in TWS, what I’ve seen of it is not all that great. In fact it drops targets just like STT does when closing from 20 miles to 10. I’ve stopped using it since it’s rare I can bug more than one target at a time. The hostile aircraft in the missions we fly on our squad server don’t stay at the same altitude for long once they’re painted. They use good tactics and bracketing in the vertical effectively makes the Viper radar lose sight on the contact that’s not bugged or in SAM mode with STT.
  23. That’s too bad it’s not working for you. It made a hell of a difference for me in the Viper which makes me think my Index is a CV1 sometimes. It did induce some shimmering but I can now read almost every label in the pit without having to shove my face against it. I have also been able to reduce my Custom Resolution setting to 178% from 204% without loss of clarity in the pit at all. This in turn has bumped my frame rates to a constant 45 FPS or above. As other S users in my squad start experimenting I’ll post here if they find any other settings that help. Cheers!
  24. I have no idea why they wouldn’t put it in the CP. I only know that access to negative LOD values can only be achieved with Nvidia Profile Inspector. AA MODE REPLAY MODE ALL can only be accessed there as well. Lastly, Oculus can say what they want but making these changes in the Nvidia Profile Inspector directly effects the Oculus S.
  25. I’ve heard from a former Eagle mechanic that pilots don’t use it. Same reason, it’s not accurate and they don’t trust it.
