I think I may be going about this wrong...
METEOP replied to FreightDog's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Agree with everybody here that the A10 is definitely not SEAD material, but if you must: I used to take some distance and altitude (about 20nm) and put the SPI on the target. Then come back down low, change my approach vector and pop up from behind a hill. When popping up lock the MAV to the SPI and rifle! Pop some chaffs and flare like a madman and run away behind the hill. Just pray there is not a smartass with a MANPAD! -

[BUG] F-14 Single mission wingman Tomcat Bug

Looks like this is it! https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=200724&page=7 DCS F-14B by Heatblur Simulations - Fixed AI Wings swept forward on spawn I just started Fleet Defender mission and wings are folded. Though when spawning there was a big bounce on the deck. -
Hi Capt'n! Any news on this? I was so desperate I've hacked your image in the first post to build a crude cockpit in Helios (no F14 interface of course). Thanks for the full screen background at least it gives us something to play with... Put in the HSI, VDI, RWR and passive buttons, now I can at least forego the keyboard on my lap much better for rudder control!

[BUG] F-14 Single mission wingman Tomcat Bug
METEOP replied to VML_robáG's topic in Bugs and Problems
ok I finally took matters into my own hands and fixed doing the following: I copied the contents of the dcs/mods/aircraft/f14/missions folder in saved games/dcs/missions and now I edited the contents oddly enough, I found I couldn't call the f10 menu because the options were stuck on 'simple comm', disabling simple comm fixed this then the carrier thing was resolved by putting myself on parking 1 and wingman on parking 3, on runway in the unit's options -
[BUG] F-14 Single mission wingman Tomcat Bug
METEOP replied to VML_robáG's topic in Bugs and Problems
All the missions with AI starting on a deck have the same problem, I'ts in the game's engine that the problem resides. Even custom missions have the problem now. I have found a way to get off the boat, after a bit of slipping on the deck the planes get a little further apart, so I nudge forward a bit, wingman call's 'rolling' and starts rolling forward, at which point I can carefully clear him and get to the catapult. However, at takeoff the wingman splashes in the sea... So I guess I'll have to do these missions alone for awhile. -
Not using VR but hage huge stuttering issues, tried everything and anything. Now it's solved for me, try this: - Lower refresh (I'm running at 50Hz now) - Overclocking memory, I'm running at DDR4 2800Mhz Stutters are gone now! I've finally removed the darn FPS meter from my screen I don't need it anymore.

Do I need 32GB of Memory now?
METEOP replied to joebloggs's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I would say yes, but cannot prove anything else than a 'seat of the pants' feeling. -
Who's got the best score so far with the F14 ?

Do I need 32GB of Memory now?
METEOP replied to joebloggs's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I just went from 16 to 32 GB (4x 8GB). My decision to pull the trigger is based on: - low ram prices these days - curiosity/peace of mind - seeing the utter disappointment of the gtx 20 series, I will wait for the next gen before upgrading my system So I was not expecting much, did not take any notes to compare performance before/after. My (very subjective) experience thus far is that it will not make a system run smoother of faster under normal circumstances, but under heavy load the system will not slow down as much since ram starvation is not a factor anymore. The immediate effect is that after about 1/2 hour of play, I finally turned off my FPS meter for good. -
My apologies I did not want to bring this here it was not my intention. I'll go have a fact based discussion elsewhere.
-
BTW here in Quebec we consider ourselves 'Quebecers' so do feel free to laugh at canadians if that makes you feel big.
-
Of course anybody can do that, just not as geometrically perfect as the pictures showed. Then again you maybe right I am probably projecting my own ineptitude.
-
I looked it up again and you are right, it was made by a Growler EA-18G using digitally-mapped flight. So not a drone but not stick flying either it seems.
-
If I remember correctly it was done by a drone, not possible to do this with human control...
-
What I meant was, it does not affect performance in any way. Try finding a benchmark that proves otherwise...
-
I've seen it described as 'snake oil', I would be inclined to think it is true.

Easier way to review your flight - particularly landing
METEOP replied to freemind_fly's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Yeah... It used to work fine before no? I cannot myself wrap my head on how it is that we got to this sad state of affairs. Did they try some recording engine were the flight data is additive and not timestamped? It seems to me it is probably some rounding error somewhere. I do not understand  -
I did not find anything regarding this, but anybody tried this project with Teknic Clearpath motors? I am looking into possible substitution of the motors because with Clearpath the controller is built into the motor, also it runs on DC which is simpler for me in north america. Sourcing is much easier too.

okay you got me... darn! Guess this is my new diy project!

I am not claiming to have a solution to all stuttering issues, but I sure solved my stuttering! Here is just a sample of tweaks I tried first : - Windows updating, game mode on/off, removing and disabling lots of stuff, virtual memory default/off/various sizes - DCS clean reinstall, repair, delete shaders, options tinkering - NVIDIA driver clean reinstall, updates, defaults, driver tinkering, DSR, overclocking, underclocking, - BIOS overclocking, defaults, various optimisations, disabling stuff - Process management, afinity in and out of DCS, Process Lasso - Crying - Tried various headtracking software Out of all of these, a few tweaks really helped, so my top three would be: MSI Afterburner with the totally awesome automatic curve builder, Process Lasso for background process optimisation (no afinity tweaking anymore), and a decent BIOS configuration. Also of note is the Opentrack software that is very good compared to all other I've tried (did not try TrackIR though). But still, when thing were getting hairy I was suffering of severe stuttering around densely populated area. So combat was a bit disappointing to say the least. Problem was, above 60fps it was mooth as silk, at 58fps the stuttering was annoying, at 50fps it was totally putting me off, at 45fps it was utterly unbearable and unplayable. When I was playing Falcon3 on a 386DX you would get between 15-25fps (mind you in 640x480@256 colors) but stuttering was not a factor. Nor was it a factor in DCS 1.5 I think, not even maybe in 2.2OB, it appeared around the 2.5 mark for me. I was thinking, the performance degradation is a symptom, not the cause because the sim should still be totally playable at lower framerates, like 30fps should be sufficient. Maybe it has more to do with timing than performance. So I tried this one weird trick, and put my two monitors at 50hz instead of 60hz, with vsync on. And low and behold, the stuttering is gone :)

Vibration pad/chair make it easier to fly?
METEOP replied to WelshZeCorgi's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
A few months back, I assembled two medium quality tactile transducers on my pit. Parts amounted to around 200$ and 4 hours work. Contrary to others opinions, for me it helps me be a better pilot for two reasons: - You feel when you are approaching the limit of the envelope for stalls / overg - The increase in immersion helps me focus on the tasks to be done Not sure about the jetseat experience as I've never tried it to compare. My transducers are powerful and I am running them nowhere near maximum. Also they seem very responsive so I can feel very subtle to very strong effects well blended together. After a few weeks of use, one time I forgot to start the plugin before firing up DCS. It felt completely empty and lifeless. So the problem you are going to have is once you start down that route you will never be able to go back. -
I absolutely love it and completely suck at landing the F14! Great work!
-
FoxDelta I am truly impressed. Great work! I am very interested once the design is finished to have one, are you thinking of selling machined units yourself our sharing your files for us to print? And if so, is there an online printing service you would recommend? Also, just a few very personal observations that could be discussed. The real cat's lever moves but of course this one is passive. I think I would find the cover annoying after awhile and remove it altogether, unless there is something I'm missing? Also If there is a good reason of having the cover (realism of course is a valid concern) would it be possible to have it in clear polycarbonate-like material so we can see at a glance the position of the lever when the cover is shut? Watching with interest...

Yep tried this, you may want to look into Process Lasso for a better process control. Realtime is not good because it will bring down the whole computer in case of problems. Also it does not offload the processing on another computer which is the whole point.
