In the monitor profiles you can control Jester's size and position perfectly! Also there is a 'bug' with the profile by CaptnZeen I changed it to the HSI pilot viewport that switches: F14_HSD my profile now for two superposed 1920x1080 monitors : _ = function(p) return p; end; name = _('F14-PILOT'); Description = 'F14 pilot viewports exported' --TOTAL DEL VIEWPORT Viewports = { Center = { x = 0; y = 0; width = 1920; height = 1080; viewDx = 0; viewDy = 0; aspect = 16/9; } } F14_UHF_ARC159 = -- main UHF { x = 2372 - 1920; y = 486 + 1080; width = 137; height = 30; } F14_UHF_ARC159_RP = -- remote pilot UHF { x = 3372 - 1920; y = 270 + 1080; width = 120; height = 30; } F14_VHF_ARC182_RP = -- remote VHF { x = 3372 - 1920; y = 354 + 1080; width = 120; height = 30; } -- F14_ECMD = F14_HSD = { x = 2714 - 1920; y = 690 + 1080; width = 338; height = 380; } F14_VDI = { x = 2714 - 1920; y = 290 + 1080; width = 338; height = 324; } F14_RWR_P = { x = 3392 - 1920; y = 443 + 1080; width = 170; height = 170; } F14_JESTER_MENU = { x = (1920 / 2) - 310 ; y = 500; width = 620; height = 620; }

I understand the dilemma... But I think you guys are taking the wrong approach. If you think about it, event if you have a mixed reality device you would still need to see the 3d cockpit rendered in the game, or replace the virtual cockpit with a black hole? I think it would be kind of weird. How about this: If you could see your hands in the sim, move your hand so that you touch the panel in the game. In the real world, mount a mdf board at this distance. Take small pieces of masking tape and locate the switches one my one so that they relate to the switches on the virtual cockpit. Doing this, you don't need to see your physical cockpit, the visuals are purely in the virtual world and you don't need to mix in your physical pit. You could even have multiple boards for different planes and change them. Currently I am running on a headtracker with a large curved projector screen, when the technology is sufficiently mature I will be moving to VR (maybe 3-5 years from now) and this is probably what I'll be doing.

Do you have your speedbrake completely out? Here is what I do : A the break (I do it a t 2nm, 450kts) - speedbrake out - start your turn - when you start to drop on the VVI, put your wingsweep to auto - lift will pick up, use gear down to add some drag to stay on altitude Slowly level your plane heading downwind on the inverse BRC Noticed I haven't changed the throttle yet, pretty soon you will slow down and start going down. When this happens lower your flaps. Lowering your flaps will create some downward pitching momentum but you will stay on altitude. Now, concentrate on getting on speed at the proper aoa. Pitch up to stay neutral on the VVI, trim, add power, trim. Keep at 600ft. DLC out. When abeam the LSO station on the boat, start your turn around 20deg. depending if you are near or far the boat. This is the tricky part, where you have to stay on speed while turning almost at full mill. Use the force... Don't look at your instruments so much at this point try to get the full 'picture'. Resist the temptation to do big power corrections. Wave off if you are not on parameters. At about 3/4 turn, the ILS bars will appear. If you are on parameters the last part is easy. You have to reduce power when leveling because lift changes alot depending on bank angle. This takes practice to get right. Good luck!

uh... what a strange question. It's like asking how big of a crater can you make crashing your plane. I snapped my wings one so far while trying to get jiggy with an amraam, but only because I am not flying it for real (and because it is a tomcat) that I was able to do this. Is there any record of an actual pilot snapping it's wings?

Wonderfull! We had a thread going some time back about the traumatizing experience of suddenly dying and being thrown out of the cockpit as a spirit with world sound to max, with dog-fighting planes screeching at full ab and warhead explosions. Heart-attack inducing for sure. This is a great tradeoff/compromise/solution. Brilliant programming ED!

This one is good, but the video I was referring to oddly enough I cannot find it anymore! This one give a glimpse of what I saw, at the 1:19 mark. But in the other video there were even much more extreme tricks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzxqMbrjlEs There is also this one, check out at 4:00 mark it is just insane! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dg48SxO2xeU

What?!!? This is like the second thread where RackMonkey tries the same trick!

Why does resolution affect CPU time too
METEOP replied to darkman222's topic in Game Performance Bugs
hummmm...... interesting indeed. But I guess there are some texture manipulations/rendering functions that are not done purely on the gpu. I've always wondered though why it is that we are reaching what seems to be a diminishing return on overall performance these days, where increasing cpu, ram speed, and upgrading gpu does not make such a huge difference than it used to. Just a feeling. You are suggesting that it might be inefficient coding? -
I don't have much experience or history in these things but it always impressed me how Russian engineers have a very keen understanding of aerodynamics, to me it seems almost magical. The PAK-FA demonstation I almost cried, it is so beautiful...

+1 My experience so far with Jester, barring any incompetence on my part, is this : BVR, don't touch anything... Jester is capable most of the time to target TWS bogeys on the nose at same height. Launch all Phoenixes! after that.... meh, he might as well eject and walk/swim home.

I disagree. FOV is the horizontal and vertical view angle, it is a function of focal length which is natural in a lens and simulated in DCS. In other words, when focal length increases your view angle decreases. ZOOM, from wikipedia : Zoom lenses are a special case wherein the focal length, and hence angle of view, of the lens can be altered mechanically without removing the lens from the camera. In other words, when focal length increases your view angle decreases. :smilewink: ...tell me what is the difference then.

Since latest OB update there are big changes it seems! It feels much more 'on rails' now and less 'floaty' and 'lofty', maybe a bit too much or is it because I was used to the previous fm? Also I definitely felt the gear and landing flaps moment change the pitch of the airframe, a bit exagerated but maybe others can weigh in? I need some more time to get a better hang of it, I can maintain aoa and altitude much easier in turns now especially the last leg, but for some reason my geometry is completely wrong now. oh wel...

Force Feedback Joystick Coming soon
METEOP replied to FoxHoundcn's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I did a bit of research : The VPC team comprises of designers, engineers, software developers and virtual pilots from Belarus, Russia and the UK. So, a Chinese company associated with a Russian company for distribution seems a very natural fit indeed. -

Force Feedback Joystick Coming soon
METEOP replied to FoxHoundcn's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
FoxHoundcn I have a few questions if you dont mind, by the way this looks very promising! - What company do you represent? - Have you an agreement for distribution? What are you sales channels going to look like? - What will be the guarantee and how will we be able to have the unit repaired/replaced in case of problems? - Ever though about having you products distributed by a major player (like thrustmaster for instance) -
Same here, summer is almost over so back to long sleeves soon hurry up!

It is a software to replicate the cockpit instruments on a separate touchscreen. The dials, switches, MFD on your touchscreen will control the same instruments in DCS, so you don't really have to use a keyboard anymore with this solution. The links to download the applications are at the bottom in Capt Zeen's signature.

Has ED removed the SpeedTree implementation at some point?
-
Yay! Having that funky speed indicator working must have been a challenge ...
-
Yes one of those instances where it seems out of whack is when you are leveling from a high aoa turn the lift picks up like crazy. Also going beyond the 22.5 deg. roll (I believe) mark and lift just ceases you drop like the proverbial rock.

fat creason, thank you for addressing the topic directly! I would like to ask a general question regarding the FM and my approach to learning high AOA / slow speed maneuvering: - Since a few updates ago, I find the plane takes too much time to slow down when reducing power at slow speeds (trapping for instance). Full brakes out, gear down, throttle idle, it takes a lot of time to slow downwind - Also at slow speed the increases/decreases in lift generated by changes in the wing geometry (flaps and man. flaps) seems exaggerated, sometimes I will float up like a balloon or drop like a stone very suddenly - I used to think the ground effect was too pronounced, around 200-300 ft from the sea coming in at high AOA I would get pushed upwards and had a hard time following the glidescope, this seems to have been fixed now. Some pilots (Victory205 for example) have thrown the towel even recommending we shouldn't spend anytime practicing case I until the FM is stabilized.... Can you confirm if this is mostly 'in my head' or if the current FM changes heavily affect theses high AOA / slow speeds situations?

Centre Mount Stick Considerations
METEOP replied to Mangrove Jack's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I went from a side stick configuration (old Falcon3 fan) to a center stick last weekend. I am using a Warthog and a pit made out of a used car seat and some ABS piping. I'm still fine tuning the angle and height, I put it as close as possible to my touchscreen (as far away from me as is geometrically possible). The 'yaw' angle is the most important, you cannot put a center stick between your legs pointing straight ahead, you wrist needs to be straight so the joystick needs to be angled. I used to have a Saitek X52, I'm not sure it will work out for you because of the large square base you will not be able to put it between your legs, much less angle it. Time for some serious DIY?
