  1. Hey, I was just checking out the NVIDIA Control Panel options (apparently, it's not worth changing anything in there) when I came across this: Vertical sync: Fast WOW! As you probably know, playing with Vsync Off creates screen tearing when your framerate is higher than the refresh rate of your monitor and when playing with Vsync On it may limit your framerate to only half your refresh rate if your graphics card cannot keep up. The "Fast" option will override your in-game option and kills screen tearing without affecting the framerate. Apparently, this was quietly introduced in the GTX 750 and newer graphics cards and as far as I know it's only available for NVIDIA graphics cards. The NVIDIA Control Panel option will OVERRIDE the in-game option, irrespective of current choice. If you can activate this, it's a given that you should, and it increased my FPS from 30 to 55 FPS in one example. I recommend all other NVIDIA Control Panel options at default. The technology is explained here:
  2. Hey, has anyone checked the interaction of the graphics options and NVIDIA Control Panel options recently? I'm checking it right now and will report: Anisotropic filtering: will override in-game option if higher, will be overridden by in-game option if lower, and appears to function identically to in-game option. FXAA: avoid as it blurs ALL text in-game. Anti-aliasing: never does anything. Overridden by in-game options. Super-sampling: never does anything. Overridden by in-game options. Ambient occlusion: apparently doesn't do anything at all. Unfortunately, it appears only AF has any effect and it works identically to the in-game function.
  3. Well, in case you haven't already: go over to the VR issues forum!
  4. Hmmm... well, if you've got a spacious SSD, and you've got 32GB RAM, there's no reason why your CPU or GPU wouldn't max out. Do you only get bad performance in VR?
  5. I've got 16GB RAM. I only play singleplayer and in the F-14 over the Persian Gulf in an instant action scenario, I use about 12-13GB RAM, I think. The only problem I have is extremely slow start-up, but hey, it's OpenBeta and we're probably going to get a flurry of patches in the coming few months. Also, it often crashes (empty screen) on exit.
  6. I don't have any memory problems on the Persian map. Are you playing multiplayer or singleplayer? I get 12-13 GB RAM use in SP.
  7. Visib Range HIGH and SSAA x0 seems to be the best way to boost FPS when flying newer airplanes like the F-14 and F/A-18C on the newer maps. Still haven't tested Inspector. The thing about anti-aliasing in DCS is that the game looks REALLY bad without SSAA when you're on the ground because apparently a lot of things (shadows, vegetation and more) aren't anti-aliased, but when you get into the air and you're flying around, SSAA x0 is perfectly fine.
  8. Yes, but you can switch to OB without re-installing or installing a second version, look here: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=3834837#post3834837

  10. 30 minutes for the update and it looks like 15 minutes for the module as well.
  11. Hey, I'm seeing a lot of threads and a lot of confusion and I thought an installation thread for people who don't want to search through the other threads would be appropriate: First, you must use DCS OpenBeta (OB) branch: CTRL+R CMD C:\Games\DCS World\Bin DCS_updater.exe update @openbeta Second, you must update to DCS 2.5.4.28461 and if it doesn't happen automatically when you start the DCS shortcut or DCS_updater.exe (in Bin), then you can force it: CTRL+R CMD C:\Games\DCS World\Bin DCS_updater.exe update Third, open the game and a pop-up will ask you to install the module like always. Update download time: 30 minutes Module download time: 15 minutes Reference people to this thread if they're panicking!
  12. You can probably force it by doing this: CTRL+R CMD CD C:\Games\DCS\Bin DCS_Updater.exe update And if you're on stable and watch to switch to OB you can apparently use this: DCS_Updater.exe update @openbeta The Skatezilla program takes a few minuets to set up. The download looks like it's going to be 2 hours... EDIT: Done in 30 minutes! Edit 2: Oh, it was only the update... now I'm downloading the airplane.
  13. It didn't work because I was already on OB, which I verified by comparing the version number with the one in the update forum. Where can I see what's my branch?
  14. Hey, how do I switch from stable to openbeta without installing a second version of DCS? Maybe I'm already on OB???
  15. Hey! It's me, D.Va, the benchmarker of legends. Based on my 1920x1080 60 Hz Singleplayer benchmarks with RTX 2060 6GB (and GTX 1060 3GB), I've written graphics option recommendations for the community! Activate the options that always should be on and then scroll to the theatre you're playing, check out my recommendations and customise your experience. I aim for an absolute minimum 60+ FPS. First, always activate the following: Textures HIGH Terrain Textures HIGH Civ. Traffic HIGH Shadows HIGH Heat Blur HIGH Resolution X Aspect Ratio X Monitors X Res. of Cockpit Displays 1024 EVERY FRAME Depth of Field OFF Lens Effects DIRT+FLARE Clutter/Grass 1500 Preload Radius 150000 Chimney Smoke Density 0 Gamma 2 Rain Droplets ON Disable Aero Interface OFF Vsync OFF (Force this outside of DCS!) Full Screen ON Scale GUI OFF The options above never affect performance and should always be maxed, as far as I know. Obviously, Shadows affect performance, but aren't worth deactivating. Second, scroll to the scenario you wish to play and activate the graphics options I recommend. A-10C in Caucasus: Water HIGH Visib Range EXTREME MSAA 2X Motion Blur OFF SSAA X1.5 Trees Visibility 100% Anisotropic Filtering X4 Terrain Object Shadows FLAT Cockpit Global Illumination ON I get about 75 FPS on average and it appears to never go under 60 FPS. In order to increase image quality or performance, change the options according to your personal preference and if you're uncertain of how a graphics option works, scroll to my graphics options guide. A-10C in Vegas: Water HIGH Visib Range EXTREME Shadows HIGH MSAA 2X Motion Blur OFF SSAA X1.5 Trees Visibility 100% Anisotropic Filtering X4 Terrain Object Shadows FLAT Cockpit Global Illumination ON I get about 75 FPS on average and it appears to never go under 60 FPS. In order to increase image quality or performance, change the options according to your personal preference and if you're uncertain of how a graphics option works, scroll to my graphics options guide. A-10C in Vegas (GTX 1060 3GB): Water MEDIUM Visib Range ULTRA Shadows HIGH MSAA 2X Motion Blur OFF SSAA OFF Trees Visibility 100% Anisotropic Filtering X4 Terrain Object Shadows FLAT Cockpit Global Illumination OFF I got about 70 FPS, for interesting reference! A-10C in Dubai: Water MEDIUM Visib Range HIGH Shadows HIGH MSAA 2X Motion Blur OFF SSAA X1.5 Trees Visibility 100% Anisotropic Filtering X4 Terrain Object Shadows FLAT Cockpit Global Illumination OFF I get about 65 FPS on average and it appears to never go under 50 FPS. In order to increase image quality or performance, change the options according to your personal preference and if you're uncertain of how a graphics option works, scroll to my graphics options guide. Here, I'll discuss how the graphics options work and how you can effectively customise your experience (performance data is based on A-10C Vegas benchmark): Water: MEDIUM (100% performance) HIGH (90% performance) My recommendation: MEDIUM doesn't affect performance significantly, but HIGH affects performance moderately and does so even when there's no water! Graphically, only the colour of water appears affected. Visib. Range: LOW (100% performance) MEDIUM (95% performance) HIGH (85% performance) ULT (80% performance) EXTREME (75% performance) My recommendation: relatively proportional increase in quality and decrease in performance. Nothing to add here. Shadows: Terrain Shadows OFF and Shadows OFF (100% performance) Terrain Shadows FLAT ONLY and Shadows HIGH (90% performance) Terrain Shadows DEFAULT and Shadows LOW (90% performance) Terrain Shadows DEFAULT and Shadows HIGH (80% performance) My recommendation: I don't recommend using any options not literally included here! Terrain Shadows FLAT improves the environment and Shadows LOW improves the cockpit, but if Terrain Shadows are FLAT, then Shadows HIGH is completely free! If Terrain Shadows are DEFAULT, then Shadows HIGH makes buildings shadow other buildings, which is impressive but really costs performance. Anti-aliasing: 0X MSAA/0X SSAA (100% performance) 2X MSAA/0X SSAA (>90% performance) 4X MSAA/0X SSAA (90% performance) 2X MSAA/1.5X SSAA (70% performance) 4X MSAA/1.5X SSAA (50% performance) 4X MSAA/2X SSAA (33% performance) My recomendation: I don't recommend using options not included here, such as 2X MSAA/2X SSAA (with identical performance to 4X MSAA/1.5 SSAA, but worse image quality). Motion Blur: OFF (100% performance) ON (80% performance) My recommendation: you don't want this if it affects performance. Trees Visibility: This is a slider running from 30% to 100% (65% in the middle). I recommend setting it to 100% and if your performance strongly degrades when flying over areas with a lot of trees, adjust it in the in-game options menu (without going out into the main menu). Anisotropic Filtering: OFF (100% performance) 2X (100% performance, difference probably to small to document) 4X (98.5% performance) 8X (95% performance) 16X (90% performance) My recommendation: increases the sharpness of textures viewed at a shallow angle, such as the runway. Above 4X, the quality difference is almost invisible. Cockpit Global Illumination: OFF (100% performance) ON (90% performance) My recommendation: a significant performance decrease for no image quality improvement, which means I don't recommend it. Special considerations: In the NVIDIA Control Panel, I recommend resetting, then setting Vertical Sync to FAST, if you've got the option, if not, set to ADAPTIVE. VRAM: always keep an eye on your VRAM. If it runs out, performance is strongly degraded. If you're flying the F-14B Tomcat in Dubai, you can even run out of 6GB VRAM and I strongly recommend setting Textures to MEDIUM.
  16. Here are my current options for about 70 fps average flying over Vegas in the F/A-18C VFR landing instant action: I'm playing with an ASUS GTX 1060 3GB, which I've overclocked 10%. Textures is Medium, because it I'm running out of VRAM if it's High in the F/A-18C. Water is Medium, which increases performance even when no water is around... which is rather ridiculous. Visib Range is Ultra, can probably go Extreme. MSAA is X2, which is almost like X4 if you're using headtracking. Anisotropic filtering is 4X. Increasing it only degrades framerates weakly, but it also only improves the graphical quality marginally anyway. The new options (Motion Blur, SSAA, and Rain Droplets) are all off until after benchmarking.
  17. It's almost certainly in the works. I would expect an announcement when the DCS Hornet enters Early Access or releases, later in the year.
  18. Check out my graphics guide. It's designed to be as simple as possible.
  19. I'm getting incredible framerates... because all buildings are missing LOL!
  20. I haven't had any problems with it, but it's very insensitive by default
  21. Check out the Oil rig landing mission for the Huey! Sunset AND fog. Clouds still need some work.
  22. I've only played DCS 2.5 for about 12 hours, but if it hasn't happened in any situation I've thrown at it yet, including free flights over Caucasus and Nevada, over forests and cities, and some included missions, including flying over the most graphically intense areas I've been able to find and a small amount of combat as well, I have little reason to think it will happen. This is called evidence-based research. Great!
  23. Interesting! DCS 2.5 currently has a memory leak. Don't upgrade RAM at all.
  24. The speed of your memory has zero effect on gaming performance, says some benchmark I found at PC Gamer or somewhere a while ago. Wouldn't worry.
