This is correct. Upgrading your computer is typically best around September, when new graphics card are released and old ones are discounted, or Christmas, when the new cards (and everything else) are discounted. However, I wouldn't ask of someone to wait six months to upgrade his computer if that's what he wants to do today though. There was the exact same rumour about the 1080: that the 1080 Ti would come out shortly thereafter and make it obsolete. In reality, it took 10 months for it to arrive. Hence, all rumours should be interpreted with caution.

Anything wrong with using HDD for DCS and gaming
D.Va replied to iVVChewy9141VVi's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I don't think HDD/SSD affects gaming at all, except loading. The effect on loading is significant. -
What makes you think HDD/SSD has anything to do with it though? I agree, for 1080p anyway.

Is there any DCS 2.5 cpu benchmark anywherE?
D.Va replied to leonzzz's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Oh, really? That's interesting. Maybe I can activate mirrors if I use a lower resolution then. -
D'oh... bound to happen!

D.Va replied to leonzzz's topic in Game Performance Bugs
If you only have poor performance when the targeting system (in the A-10C?) is active, decrease "Res. of Cockpit Displays" in the graphics options. Your graphics card is also old and if you upgraded to a 1060 or 1070, you would probably get a lot better performance and be able to increase graphics options a lot. But if you're happy with your graphics options and performance except when using the targeting system, start changing "Res. of Cockpit Displays" to 256. -
It's a matter of fact, not perception. Yes, running out of VRAM, as a matter of fact, isn't causing any performance problems (absolute or relative decrease in framerate or frametime) in the context we are regarding. I'm playing DCS 2.5 with 3GB VRAM. I'm flying over Caucasus in the A-10C, monitoring my CPU, GPU, RAM, VRAM, framerate, frametime, and temperatures in MSI Afterburner, and when I hit 3GB VRAM usage, nothing out of the ordinary happens. I have the 1060 3GB and I've also co-benchmarked Caucasus with another member that has the 1060 6GB and we have broadly identical performance. I'm not making an argument. This isn't my opinion. I'm presenting facts. Here are my "ugly" graphics options in 1920x1200: Textures HIGH Terrain Textures HIGH Civ. Traffic HIGH Water HIGH Visib. Range EXTREME Heat Blur HIGH Shadows HIGH Resolution 1920x1200 Aspect Ratio 16:10 Monitors 1 Res. of Cockpit Displays 1024 EVERY FRAME MSAA X8 (X8 is broken, so it's still really X4) Depth of Field OFF Lens Effects DIRT+FLARE HDR OFF Deferred Shading ON Clutter/Grass 1500 Trees Visibility 100% Preload Radius 100 Chimney Smoke Density 0 Gamma 2 Anisotropic Filtering X2 Terrain Object Shadows FLAT Global Cockpit Illumination OFF Disable Aero Interface OFF Vsync OFF Full Screen ON Scale GUI OFF

Are you English-native? "I've yet to experience" means I haven't experienced it yet.

Go Windows 10 64-bit. It's not Windows 8. You also don't need the 32GB of RAM for gaming, if that's what you're thinking, but upgrading your motherboard, processor, and memory (just 16GB) anyway is a good idea, if you want them to keep up with your graphics card.
-
Crashes, huh? Well, that's obviously not all right. As you found out, it's clearly not the memory, if you're not even out of memory. It also certainly isn't the hard drive, that's fully irrelevant. I'm guessing you have a Western Digital or Seagate like anyone else, that's typical. Hard drives only affect loading and never cause crashes unless they're about to break apart completely. It's unlikely that it's a hardware problem at all. Do other games crash? Any other programs? The typical troubleshooting tips are restarting your computer, updating your drivers, cleaning your computer, re-installing DCS, re-installing your operating system, and stuff like that. If it doesn't work, create a thread in the appropriate part of the forum (for crashes, around here somewhere) and submit whatever crash logs the game may have generated to the moderators.

Actually, running out of VRAM doesn't do anything at all, based on my most recent benchmarks. I did report once (as you may have read) a drop from 45 to 30 FPS, which appeared to coincide with me running out of VRAM, but I wasn't able to replicate it and today I can run out as much as I want and it doesn't affect a thing (FPS or FT). Which isn't to say I don't think I wouldn't have problems running in 4K, but if DCS in theory wants 4-5GB VRAM in 1080p and you only have 3GB and play in 1200p, I've yet to find any replicable performance problems with it.

You stalk me around the forum, even into my own threads, opposing my advice, the accuracy of which I have demonstrated with benchmarks, but despite this you are unwilling to admit fault. That's, along with your constant condensation, why your elitist clique (you, Cichlidfan and if I remember correctly, hansangb) have recieved negative reputation from me. I mean, just look up. Cichlidfan, who argues against the fact that 98% of 24" computer monitors are 1080/1200p, hansangb, who apparently argues against my opinion that eye and head tracking remains relevant on the consumer market today since VR is currently way more expensive, which it is as a matter of fact, and you, who argue against the fact that DCS runs with 8GB RAM, which I've benchmarked and you haven't. I make logical arguments based on facts here. Look up again and observe how little either of you three have contributed to this thread, which I graciously took the time to write for the community and is a review of a product for playing DCS. For this reason, I will proceed to report all your posts in this thread to the moderators in the morning, if they haven't cleaned it up already by then, for violation against the forum rules. What are you even doing in this thread? "1.5 Any and all Off Topic posts will be deleted without notice. I don't.

Little experiment just for fun :)

Interesting, turns out you can play DCS on Apple Watch all along, we just didn't try! -
The others have already answered your question, but for your information your computer specs are great. The next time you want an upgrade, you will only have to upgrade your graphics card, keep that in mind. All your other parts will age much more slowly than your graphics card, but your graphics card will be ready for an upgrade in a couple of years at most. It's already a little on the weak end but will work perfectly in 1920x1080.
-
What are your specs? CPU, GPU, RAM, Resolution? I don't have any problems, but keep in mind this is OpenBeta and a big upgrade, so we can probably expect a few performance problems for 3-6 months!
-
Why do you believe you need more than 4GB VRAM? What resolution are you running? 4K?
-
Triple buffering is not working, can get either 30 or 60FPS.
D.Va replied to GeorgeLKMT's topic in Game Performance Bugs
I simply force 60 FPS with MSI Afterburner universally in all programs. It stops my graphics card from working harder than it has to and making more noise than it has to. -

D.Va replied to leonzzz's topic in Game Performance Bugs
I don't believe there's a CPU comparison yet, but in general the 8600/8700 are about 20% faster than the classic 2600/2700. What monitor resolution (or VR) and graphics card do you have? We can't know where the bottleneck is magically! -
If you don't have the A-10C, why not give it a go? It's the most complex AND most convenient aircraft in DCS: automatic navigation, directors all over the place, multi-function colour displays, a moving map, targeting pod, and HUD targeting reticule for all kinds of weapons employment including dropping bombs automatically as you fly over the target, and much more. It's the simply best. The A-10C and Ka-50 are the only aircraft in DCS with moving maps and targeting pods, which is a big advantage in my opinion, since it let's you forget about carefully studying the map before a flight (or cheating) and weapons employment is automagic. But if you want anti-complexity, the F-86F starts with literally just three flicks of two switches, if I remember correctly. Also, yeah, the Hawk is still a joke. The worst module and I own them all.
-
You probably only need 3GB VRAM in 1080p. I'm playing in 1200p with 3GB VRAM and with my current options, I've yet to experience framedrops due to VRAM. What resolution? If you're playing in 1920x1080 or 1920x1200, you can check out the Low, Medium, and High presets in my optimisation guide to get an idea of what performance to expect (45-60 FPS with mostly maxed out graphics options, except anti-aliasing. Also: MSAA X8 is currently not working, which is why MSAA X4 and MSAA X8 appear with identical performance in the guide).
-
Oh, really? 24" does not imply a resolution? In Sweden, out of the 64 most popular 24" computer monitors, 63 are 1920x1080 or 1920x1200. Today, TrackIR is not dead. Do you agree? Hence, my argument against VR is valid today. Irrelevant, because I disproved you with an 8GB benchmark and you have 32GB and not 8GB.
-
If I'm reading you right, your CPU is perfectly fine and your graphics card (I'm not an AMD user) is a 2015 960 equivalent. Simply get a 1060 3GB (if you plan on staying in 1920x1080), a 1070, or a 1080 depending on your budget and you will be able to max out most graphics options (even with the 1060) in 1080p 60 Hz. Check out my optimisation guide to see what kind of performance you can expect even with a 1060 3GB upgrade (our other components are almost the same and I play in 1200p). Even a 1060 would almost double your performance. Why I'm mentioning the 1060 3GB specifically (beyond the fact that I have one) is because I managed to get one discounted at 50% of a full price 1060 6GB and if you find a deal like that, the bang for your buck really shoots through the roof. 600W "on the edge"? He will need about 330W and efficiency peaks at about 40-60%, which is well within that margin and even then, I've personally been using a 420W PSU with probably 95% load and no problems to speak of for years... it's also fully passively cooled, which is the exception to your "no exception".

I just upgraded to 390.77 from 390.65 and got a 5% performance decrease, but a restart may (probably?) fix it.

I recommend the SteelSeries Sensei Wireless, which is wired and wireless, ambidextrous, allows CPI adjustments in increments of 1 from 50-16400 and many other options, made in a matte plasticky material, with a braided cable and comes with a beautiful charging dock apparently made of steel or something. It has one extra switch on top and two on each side and you can customise individual lights in the scroll wheel, the SteelSeries icon under your palm, and around the charging dock, including pulsating lights if that’s your thing or battery indication if you’re the practical type. It costs $160, but it’s perfect for me. If you want a cheaper one, SteelSeries Sensei (faithful servant for many years) is mostly the same, but it’s all metal, has a screen under it, and the side switches are easier to press by mistake, and there’s also a SteelSeries Sensei RAW that’s even cheaper and comes in shiny or matte material to my knowledge.
