Anyone have any progress with this yet?

Is the Tomcat finally getting an update tomorrow?
RaTzo replied to key_stroked's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
This and the ability to actually use custom cockpits (not just look at the menu item) would make my day. -
"Added custom cockpit livery option." is part of Stable now. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=3911320#post3911320 So does it finally work?

#Crickets :(

I'm excited for the future of VR in DCS. With the Rift S providing a more sharp and clear image and DCS getting a significant performance increase it will be like a whole new experience again. ED has to know this is a money tree for them so I suspect we'll see the update sooner rather than later.

Just quoting this workaround so that it doesn't get buried.

They don't make any more money this week if they test the patches extensively than if they test them minimally but it costs them a lot more to test them extensively than minimally. It isn't that they are terrible people or just lazy, it is just that in reality it's a money pit to test everything before you release. The community is going to do way more research than you could pay a few testers to do anyway. Yes it sucks... but reality just doesn't seem to care if it bothers us. :)

An option for a new cockpit and a new canopy glass?
RaTzo replied to Rabbisaur's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
I'm watching that mod. I only fly MP and it currently breaks the IC so I'm not using it. However, HB have said they are fixing the bug that keeps us from using custom cockpit textures which they intend us to be able to do. I agree the work they have done on the 14 is outstanding. Easily the best module I've ever seen in a flight sim. One would think that they have the photoshop files and could simply dial back the the weathering effects on the text.... or just release the files and let us do it. The paint kit for the exterior of the jet is actually pretty well made. One would assume they did similarly for the cockpits. -

Any word on when this is going to work? I know there is a bug you're trying to squash. -

Actually during my career as an Avionics Tech in the Canadian Air Force who worked 1st, 2nd, and 3rd line maintenance, including deployments there is zero chance an ancient CH-124 Sea King which had been flying since 1963 would ever be in remotely the same condition as the HB F-14B. All the nicks and chips on the instrument panels (which are clear plastic with black paint on top and small lightbulbs screwed into them) would be painted. Any indicator which was not easy to read would be deemed unserviceable and replaced. That the caution panel is unreadable would lead to a flight safety investigation. I like the effort they put in but they missed the mark on this by a long shot. -
This part I agree with completely. +1

Ugh mine is pushed off to the left as well. Didn't expect it to make it much harder to use but it does. I have to move my head in bizarre ways to get the correct option selected.
-
Come on HB. The impossible to read writing in the cockpit is the #1 complaint about the module. The least you can do is make it possible for us to fix it for you.

It took me hours to line up as well. However there is an easier way. Just place embedded one of the tails from the liveries which came with the 14 and use their art to line up yours. There is a few pixel shift between the vertical stabs and the rudders.

Turns out he does if the server is set up for them. This works fine and eliminates the 8 minutes you would normally have to sit there in alignment jail with nothing to do.

Here is my personal skin which is adapted from the TAW Wolfpack skin we fly.

Awesome!

Buttons and dials are using different types of mouse interactions to accomplish the same thing which means you have to memorize which way you interact with each switch instead of just doing the same thing for every switch. This is widespread across the entire cockpit but here are some examples. To turn on the RADALT you right click and drag up (far enough to set your low alt warning as desired) but the BARALT is corrected by left clicking and dragging. Some switches you right click them to push them up (or away from you) and others you left click to do the same. Remembering which way to click the position light switches to set them to either bright or dim is a pain. I can't even remember which way it is right now... but the taxi light switch and the RWR system on switch right beside those switches are the opposite from them. Not game breaking but it does diminish the immersion.

Just open the 3in1 LOD file and then "place embedded" each of your finished .dds files and resize them in there to 512x512. It is much faster than opening, resizing, and exporting, then importing each of the texture files.

https://www.photopea.com is very close to Photoshop and free. However it is an online only option and may not work well with the massive files of this skin.

Yes the weathering is several layers above the color base layers.

+1 very understandable. Yes it is realistic and if pilots really did respawn after dying they would absolutely have to endure the whole alignment over again... but that's not very realistic now is it. :) It is a flightsim, but it is also a game. It may be fun to spend lots of time in #AlignmentJail for some people but it also may not for others. Doesn't bother one if the other doesn't do their kind of thing. No that is not what the person claimed. They claimed that being ready at different times is unreal. They were still wrong but getting them to defend something they didn't say is dishonest and manipulative. Is it possible to want to do all the things except the part where you sit there doing absolutely nothing while a counter slowly counts down and pushes a mark across a screen from left to right? Here's a question: why do you care what that person wants to do or doesn't?

Ooooh I didn't know this exists. Sweet.
