  1. That is an interesting distinction. I am not sure it is as profound as it is being presented as though. I have no idea how old you are or how much experience you have with games and mods so I'll be gentle. :) This has been said a billion times about mods. However, games with thriving modding communities are always the most profitable and long lived. Mods exist in a free market. The good ones are used and the bad ones are not. The good ones amplify the sales of the product and the bad ones simply never get traction. This may not sit well with armchair warriors but it is the reality of what happens. You're joking right? DCS exists - in the current state - because there is exactly zero competition. If you examine the scripting of the modules, and the skins, and you look at the folder structure - basically everything that is open to be looked at you will see it is a complete mess of barely working items that obey no consistent standards across the products. If you get into skinning and attempt to skin the premier product from ED the F-18C lot 20 you'll find that the model is misshapen, with folds sticking out the bottom from the top. Various pixel densities exist across the skin files... I assume you mean market standard. There is no market. There are currently slightly more than 500 players playing DCS. Here are how many people have been playing Half-Life, a 1990s game with a thriving modding community https://steamcharts.com/app/70 Here's how many people are playing Day of Defeat, a BF1942 mod, and moved to the Source engine. https://steamcharts.com/search/?q=Day+of+Defeat Yes, and as we can see there are an endless list of developers who enjoy working with ED so much that they are going out of their way to invest in reaching those 500 players.... Tell me about your business degree. Perhaps you are better at reading minds than you are at business.
  2. Hopefully it will be.
  3. No further comment in order to protect the guilty.
  4. It's understood that this is the reality of the relationship. Perhaps looking at how development of the game Squad might help ED understand the value of seeing modders as an asset instead of just creative customers. Their modding community has improved the core game greatly and made the game more profitable. If there is a way to adapt the relationship you have with modders it may well benefit everyone. Yes I am aware of the realities of licensing and security issues that could put ED at risk from various governments.
  5. Jump in your jet in weather that most matches your part of the world and adjust the gamma up and down until the SHADOWS in the cockpit look real to you. That will be the best gamma setting for you. I've had to lower mine since the lighting update. Any setting is OK as long as it looks real to you.
  6. This is true of the majority of options in the game. They truly have to get this engine out of 2010 sometime soon. BTW, "fire guns" options have been found in FS2020. Any chance HB will be making the skies less friendly over there???
  7. This is what I was going to try myself later today. Starting from cold not being able to get the alignment started until after you're reloaded is not what happens in the real world. However, in the game Jester won't start his alignment until you have an engine running - so far as I know.
  8. This has just started for me since 2.5.6 was installed.
  9. Thanks. From what I've heard others going through with 2.5.6 I've got it good. :)
  10. This is not helpful at all I fear. On the Quick mission Pitching Deck for the 14B here is my screenshot above the clouds with the sun over my right shoulder. https://imgur.com/zhnWPXm While this looks good in a screenshot in the Rift S the LEFT side is a dull grey instead of the true high contrast scene you would see - and is reasonably depicted by the screenshot. In the view IN the Rift S the right side of the cockpit looks exactly like you see in the screenshot, but the left side looks like it is missing several stops of dynamic range. Here is the scene on the deck below the clouds and the rain. https://imgur.com/bd2KGy9 Sorry the screenshot doesn't show what I'm seeing in the Rift S. If there is ANYTHING I can do to help you figure out what I'm seeing here please just ask.
  11. Will grab some tomorrow.
  12. Just turn the lights down and the cockpit looks fine.
  13. The new lighting looks awesome overall, but I found a bug during day flight. The sun lit sections on the side of the cockpit OPPOSITE to where the sun is positioned seem to have a massive reduction in dynamic range of brightness. ie with Sun over right shoulder the sunlit area at the front left of the cockpit is where the bug presents, but NOT on the sun lit section of the right front of the cockpit. The grey painted areas especially, but event the black painted shroud/mounts on the instruments suffer similar effects, look like a photo which has had its highlights brought down much too far in Lightroom. They are a funky grey. I've tried several different Gamma settings and nothing fixes the very odd look. Again, the sunlit sections on the side of the cockpit where the sun is position look great. They have tint from the Sun and appear to be a couple of stops of light brighter than the shadows. The side opposite from the Sun look to be dull and grey.
  14. If $50 is too expensive, you can buy it right now for $35. If $35 is too expensive for what they are promising then you are never going to be happy with your purchase and you shouldn't buy it. You have the Stennis now already included with the game and it works. For some of us this is a must have module and we would have pre-ordered at any price point. For others it is a nice to have. For some it isn't a priority. Yay for everyone! Seriously. I am not a fan of Early Access - ever since Rust - but for me I knew I would get the Super Carrier at some point anyway. It is a must have for what I enjoy in the game. So, I just ordered it and at $35 I think I'm going to be extremely satisfied with my purchase.
  15. War Eagle Fictional. All artwork was manually created. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1hoaWSv4FmJ9uxu5kNr6mc8LPulIyPh3T
  16. Just uploaded the completed skin to the user files section. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3308074/?fbclid=IwAR1Hr-dIk5UkteK6-u5xQmFMUUA2eomiVLvgE3p-uChryN-PuuZuJjiO9og
  17. I had this start to happen again this week - no new patch... nothing... haddn't happened in ages but again. Same as others, I have to idle for a bit and then it will launch then I go full AB to make a successful launch.
  18. In case anyone else wants to know where these tiny spots are they are blocks of white circled in orange in this crop of the lower right corner of F18C_1_DIFF I found them by marking the entire file with squares of different solid colors and I just kept narrowing it down until I could find them.
  19. I'm nearing completion of the 3 Wing Bagotville 2009 demo livery for the celebration of a century of powered flight in Canada on airframe 188719. Have to finish the pattern on the wings and then it will be complete.
  20. :) I've got it (and the one other side) narrowed down. It looks better than I expected it to and is almost finished. Will be putting it up in the user files section.
  21. Appreciate you guys. Yup
  22. It would be nice if Jester didn't panic about every friendly missile and every enemy missile that isn't actually coming at us so that when he does panic I wouldn't dismiss it as BS.
  23. Does anyone know where this spot is on the texture template? It seems to be a block that fits between F18C_1_DIFF and F18C_2_DIFF. I'm trying to connect the white bits but I can't find this very nondescript patch that sits on both sides of the aircraft.
  24. hahaha! Lawyers and Devs..... Lawyers and Devs... hehehehehehe I've been confident all all along that it will be just fine.

    Wet decks

Sailed for three years on HMCS Provider and Preserver. Only saw green water ever get to the flight deck of Provider once, never on Preserver. I've spent many many days in bad weather doing deck work. Lots of spray at the bow, but these ships were not anywhere near as tall as the Stennis. Never sailed on an aircraft carrier so it's possible water sprays up there and I just don't know it, but it seems very unlikely. Sea State 10 maybe :) I'll have to take your word for it. Getting sea sick is awful. Only experienced it once myself. In the bottom of the ship while "Officer of the Watch maneuvers" were happening... mostly I just get really tired the first day at sea and then feel fine after I sleep. Sucky thing is when most of the air detachment is down sick and we go to flying stations so I'm one of a few guys trying to get the Sea King launched.... lol I think I'd rather have it that way though. Saw some people who got very sick suffer more than I would ever want to.
