Can't use VSL and other ACM modes when gun selected
CrazyGman replied to CrazyGman's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Ok I was wondering, because sometimes it did seem like it was working. Thanks -
After doing some dogfighting with the F-14, when I select guns I can't seem to use the vertical scan lockon modes, or the PAL and in order to use these modes I have to select one of the missile options first then switch back to guns, any idea why this is?

What is it with Nvidea drivers after 442.74 that caused the framerate drop. I used to always be able to correct the FPS hit with those drivers installed

As stated before it's a bit if a misnomer. There isn't a whole lot of armor on the aircraft. Even the canopy glass is only armored on the front, and the crew wore thick helmets to help deflect stray non-straight shots. There is armor around the cockpit and the chopper is robustly designed compared to contemporaries, enough that it can go into a area and take some small arms fire, and have a decent chance of coming back but it's still an aircraft. reduction of weight is essential and the Mi-24 were used to surpress landing areas for Mi-8/17s or act as mobile artillery with high speed passes, so that usually only stray small arms fire would be the majority of what they would be facing, having hopefully supressed any dedicateed AA

Hey been about a month since I flew the Viper, but now TMS left doesn't seem to IFF. Is this a bug, or a change to the IFF in the viper?

Is the server still down? it's not showing up on the multiplayer list, and hasn't for anytime i've been on in the last 2 days

Viggen mil power or afterbunner for ingress
CrazyGman replied to CrazyGman's topic in DCS: AJS37 Viggen
Thanks. Yeah I usually fly the MiG 21 and so I was noticing that it was taking a bit longer in the Viggen. Then looked at the speed and it was 0.68 mach (with fuel and a full load of rockets) and I was like geez I can still get to around 0.75-0.8 in the MiG 21 at Mil power with rockets (i know they are smaller). Obviously it changes when burner is engage espesially since the Viggen won't flame out at 1300kph IAS at ground level -
So just been learning the Viggen after having it on the backburner for 2 years, and been liking it quite a bit, however I noticed that loaded up it's fairly slow at full Mil power, slower then the MiG 21 at Mil power. I assume that is because of the relatively high bypass turbofan engine, and the fact that the plane is realtively heavy in general. That being said and i understand that this is situational when flying to target is the standard to be operating just in mil power, or is it proper to be in stage 1 or 2 afterburner, if so generally how close to target before engaging burner?

I actually really enjoy having the tomcat and the MiG 29s in the mix on some missions (course the 29 is my favorite plane so I'm a bit biased) I do think the limited numbers are important and I think letting the Mig 29's take R27R and R60m, while the tomcats get there sparrows, and aim 9L can work, just have a few less CATS then 29s to balance it out, since the MiGs have less range and less radar guided missles. It does mean that there is a chance that the misson can snowball a bit but even with 3rd gen planes that can still be the case.

That was my point. Even reading interviews with "Spanky" he refers to western platforms being able to out BVR the fulcrum with AIM 120s which i always feel is not a great comparison, because he's refering to the east german Fulcrums, which would have been facing off against early F-16s and F-15s at the time they were on the red side, but he's comparing them to the modern versions of the F-16s and F-15s and he never mentions how they would have faced in a cold war gone hot setting where the MiGs most common opponent would have been F-15a's and F-16a's at least if your talking about comparible numbers of aircraft
-
Ahhh. Yeah usually I do, and I thought that I had, however the patameters to release the drop tank in the 29 is a little more picky then with the 21. I only noticed the light indicating it was still attached when I was RTB, and at that point I was like ehhh why not just land with it.
-
Yeah and I was able to once I landed and could bring up the overlay (didn't want to mess with it in the air and risk crashing and losing the plane) but to prevent some confusion with new players using SRS just having the channel preset like in the MiG 21 could solve some minor headaches
-
Is there anyway to set the comms on the MiG 29 to the 124 channel by default? It is currently set to 251 when they first start up. I just started using SRS this week and when I flew my first sortie I was trying in vain to get on comms and had to wait till i finished my first sortie and landed to get it sorted for my second sortie. Also there seems to be a bug when refueling and rearming the MiG 29. If you bring back the centerline tank instead of jettisoning it and then try to refuel and rearm, the fuel gauge only shows the internal fuel and it doesn't seem to put on a new full external tank

*Goes into mulitplayer, pulls up Cold war server. Sees an even mix of planes, but then sees blue has 2 people in tactical Cmdr, and Red has none* "No thanks.....I choose life...."

Saw a Grim Reapers video where they said ED would be doing a full fidelity MiG-29A I wonder how much overlap they would have with the current one from FC3. Or if they would have to work from the ground up.
-
You really need to compare it to the F-16a which is kinda in the same niche the MiG 29a was going for. Yeah it needed to fight the F-15c but the Su-27 Flanker was always the peer fighter for that fight. Fulcrums were more designed to counter the earlier F-15A's in a cost effective way, and replace the older MiG 21s-23s
-
I find it a little annoying the most of the time the early MiG 29s like the ones we have in dcs are often compared to later letters, blocks, and lots of western 4th gen fighters. I don't know why people never seem to compare the equivelent of the early 80s MiG 29 with its contemporaries like the F-16a that had no data link, and no radar guided missles. Instead we get comparisons vs their performance in desert storm or in Yugoslavia, where they were still the base A model MiG29 going up against F-15Cs and F-16Cs and AMs, where they were out numbered and had no AWACS support.

Sure you can. Cut your speed as you approach head on and it will connect. R60m behaves the same, too much speed and it will miss head on. Also if no all aspect then why do tomcats get the Aim-9L? It's definetly all aspect. I got killed head on with it yesterday, and I just tested it myself head on flying the tomcat
-
Ehh i've gunned them both. The tomcat is easier, it's a much bigger target. Yeah you can dominate the F-5 with power but man is it a slippery tiny bugger.Makes snap shooting it in a knife fight more tricky then you might think. Is the R60m really much better then the R60? In my experience with both in the 21 i find the M only marginally better at defeating flares, and thats really the only difference I can tell between the 2. They are both all aspect. I know i've killed players head on with the R60.
-
Sorry your right it is 6, don't know why I had 7 stuck in my head. The R27 T does give us a good option when attacking the F-5, and F-14s. The F-5s can be taken out with stealth without wasting the limited 2 stations we can put R-27s on. With the R27R unless I'm rear aspect to him and way within the no escape zone, he has plenty of time to react and defeat the missile. For the F-14 even if jester reacts to a missile launch, he reacts to pretty much any type of launch even if the missile is way off and not targeting the F-14 so without a RWR alarm to back it up, a lot of players will ignore it or react too late. Either that or the Aim 9L should be locked on the F-14s
-
for the servers with the MiG 29s and F-14s the 29s need to get some R60s or at least the option to take the R27S. 2 R27Rs aren't going to cut it against the much better radar and jamming of the F-14 and the fact that it can take 7 Aim-7s, and Aim9Ls for head on shots
-
So I've have this happen a couple of times, usually in an engagement with multiple foes. So generally Jester is fine for the first run in. I acquire a target, fire a phoenix, and then go cold to evade enemy fire. However when I turn around after disengaging to reengage, and try to get jester to acquire a target that the datalink shows is less then 40nm in front of me, and the target is hot, and I can even see it's contrail so I know it's not a ghost contact, jester will be unable to find that target, even though I've gotten him to scan the area that it's in.....Is he just focused on scanning and acquiring targets that are further off that he can see on the radar, and thus isn't able to locate the bogey? Do I have to put him into RWS so that he can acquire the new contact? I wonder if anyone has any experience with this, and if anyone has a good YouTube video that they can reference to get the most out of jester. One other thing. When using the phoenix I usually will try to keep the bandit painted till the countdown flashes implying the missile has gone active, but I've noticed that sometimes the missile hits way before the countdown gets close to 0. Also is it really necessary to wait until the flashing then? I've getting pretty decent success but I wonder if people have any timelines that they follow with the AIM-54. also any tips for using the F-14 low in mountains and hills, I find that the Tomcat without a RIO is kind of out of it's element here especially against F-16s, F-15s, and F/A-18s trying to find and lock bandits, before they lock and send AIM-120s your way.
