  1. Your kidding right? Radar for finding ground targets. Much better feild of view fire missles behind cover fired with radar guided Hellfires Regular laser guided hellfires that hit from above so line of sight in crowded urban areas is not much of a issue Much better sensors for aquiring targets. Plus AI co-pilot/gunner to help find tagerts and engage targets
  2. Here is a side profile of them at 40km, they are pretty much indistinguishable though you can't really tell in the picture but the F-14 is just a little bit of a darker dot. remember to expand the picture full screen or you won't be able to see it. Here are my settings in DCS using track IR and 1440p monitor at 150hz
  3. and here is the side on profile of the F-14 and F-5 at 20km again make sure to zoom it full scree so the full 1440p resolution shows through.
  4. AHHH for me you can start to see subtle differences at around 30ish km but it's still too iffy, at 20km you can see a distinct size difference and the plume from the F-14s engine, in these pictures the targets are at about 19.8km away this one is head on. at 1440p resolutions and ultra distances
  5. Seriously if your putting the double r60 launchers on your 3 and 4 station your really messing up the flight characteristics of the plane and IMO lossing any advantage you think your getting by taking them. Dual R60 on the 1-2 with S-24s on the 3-4 is....better.... but again you'll be heavy and likely overweight if you don't reduce fuel I don't know about you but i most definely don't hit where the pipper is pointed the vast majority of the time if my parameters are off during my run, but i have the realistic asp sight feature turned on so maybe that accounts for it. There are also about as many MiG 21 pilots doing air to ground as F-5 pilots, but then some maps have more F-5 slots available then MiG 21s and instead there are open slots for MiG 19 to "balance" it. Generally air superiority, and matches are won by the team with the most people on SRS that are communcating with each other and GCI support. I don' feel the way the maps are currently set up that one side has an overt advantage over the other with the current weapons allowed
  6. Better visibility in cockpit. Engine doesn't flame out from negative or between 0-1 G like the MiG 21. Rocket pod is better then MiG S5 rockets. Bombs are comparible. Better stability for attack runs Better RWR. Can carry decent amount of fuel, air to ground and air to air weapons at the same time. MiG 21 does have Grom missle and S24 rockets, but the Grom is very situational. And the S 24 rockets are just a one shot wonder. It's not a big difference just like air to air between the MiG and F-5 isn't huge.
  7. I mean it's really subtle and i might be exacgerating a bit with the distance (certainly by 20km you can see a difference) viggens F-5 harriers and choppers you can't dustinguish though. I run max almost everything except heatblur and anti aliiasing witch is msaa at 2x 1440p screen
  8. Really the AIM 9P and the 24J on the Viggen are basically on par with the R60. R60 is slightly more manuverable (but just barely) 9p and 24J keep their steam longer then the R60, and hit harder (A-10s and Harriers have about a 50% chance of eating a R60 and continue flying and fighting) with uncageing in the viggen and F-5 you don't need to worry about keeping your nose as precisely on targert as you need for the almost 1.5 seconds with the R60 in the 21. Both missles become useless once a knife fight starts between an F-5 and 21 as long as either oppenent keep it close and keep pulling his nose around. I'd say about 1 in 10 missle shots i take with a R60 would hit rather then miss if I had fired a 9p or 24J in the same parameters vs a manuvering target. But i'd say the 24J and AIM 9P would hit vs a retreating target at full speed from a longer range then the R60, and you have more flexibility with nose position. If you are slow and your nose is wobbling around with the F-5 and Viggen vs the MiG 21 I feel the plane sets balance each other out Nicely right noe. Viggen can take up to 6 24Js (granted most missions only offer 36 of the missiles in total) the MiG 21 is slightly better then the F-5 in the air to air role and F-5 is slightly better then the MiG in the air to ground role.
  9. So as mentioned before it takes a lot of practice with learning to spot plane specs at distances and in building up SA (situational awareness). Fighting a tomcat out in the open without a 2 to 1 advantage with the MiG 21 is extrememly difficult. Just like it is with a F-5 vs the MiG 29 Baiting them to come into the hills and mountains help level the playing field. As mentioned flying perpendicular to the tomcats radar and below the contact will cause dropped locks and for you to also temporarily fade from it's radar you can then fly low right at treetop level to evade in the hills, hopefully dragging the tomcat into friendlies. Use GCI call outs or a human GCI on srs to help you build SA. If you get a callout 4000m or higher with tomcats availible it is very likely to be them. Also they will be visible as larger specs against the sky at about 40km
  10. Soviet Cold War Fighters by Alexander Mladenov
  11. On a seperate page, it's not as specific
  12. Fine.....Blue means NATO, (and France never actually fully left NATO) and countries with "mutual defense treaties". Red means possible adversaries, and in the 80's and 90's a number of them had Mirage F1's. Also if they include the second hand F1E from Qatar, those were Super 530F capable. So it's quite possible they'll have the function available for the F1EE as even the Spanish F1EE had the updated Hud, computer, and radar (yes not as modern as the M but still the same system that could fire the super 530F as far from what my reading can tell).
  13. Nah. Against F-5 with 2 AIM 9P5's and Viggens with 4 RB-74s the MiG 21Bis with 4xR60m's is still a bit better then both. At least in the battles I've had against them in multiplayer. A Mirage F1 with 4 x AIM 9 juli, which are basically P5 (not L's) will be a little less nimble then the F-5 but be faster and more powerful, power to weight wise. It will still be less powerful then the BIS by a large Margin and will struggle against it at low alt and slow speed.. It's guns and possibly it's gunsight on the early version might give it the edge in slashing attacks. The radars won't make much of a difference since the early F1C won't have look down shoot down either. With the F1EE we can have a rough equivelent of the Iraq F1 for some fights against Iranian F-14As, and F-5s. Yeah the fight will still be in the F-14s favor, but even now if a F-14 gets by itself against 2-3 MiG 21Bis in multiplayer it frequently dies with the BIS that just having vanilia R-60s.
  14. Red Air just means non-NATO. Not nessesarily a communist state.
  15. So with realistics ASP sight option on. You don't use the piper to guide the missle. You use the small crosshair. Also when you lock it will track to where the small cross hair was when you pressed the lock on button
  16. From what I read the Spanish didn't have the AIM 9 L or M They originally had the AIM 9E and Eventually the J which is eqivelent to a P or P5 AIM 9, at least until the F1M upgrades which probably allowed them to carry the L and M. For the upgraded Mirage F1M, it will have an advantage over the MiG 21 Bis with systems and weapons for sure, but for the earlier E, and C models it will be a pretty equal fight, espesially if they only have the R530 and AIM 9E or AIM J. I still think you could do a pretty good job subbing the spanish version in is as a red force plane on the cold war servers.
  17. So reading up on the P version. It seems that they have been fitted with R60 missiles in some frontline Russian units. Are we going to have these implemented?
  18. Obviously I know that this is a work in progress, but i'm wondering if we know the weapons that will be availible for the F1CE that will be the first one available. will we see 530 and super 530F? Technically depending where in it's life they are they should have it. Also wonder if it will get the Matra Corail dispenser shown in the picture here, since the F1 doesn't come with internal chaff and flare. Overall i'm extremely excited for the F1CE and the other versions that wil be coming availible. I think it's going to be an interesting opponent for the MiG 21 Bis. With the Bis being more powerful thrust to weight wise, but with better radar and guns and slightly better systems in the F1, and if super 530F is availible it will have a slight edge
  19. Except the BIS cockpit is actually slightly blue, they changed the color for it
  20. Catch me if you can map had fuel tanks and countermeasure pod unavailable for MiG 21Bis, figured it might be an update bug?
  21. What are the new regulations and when did they come out?
  22. Follow up: Then what have they being doing for most of that 2+ year time? What stage was it at when they announced it back in 2017? Why was it in the 2020 and beyond DCS trailer if it couldn't be released till Q2 2021.
  23. Question I most want to know: Why Almost 3 years between announcement, and release? Apache gets annouced and has a 6-9 month supposed window till early access
  24. So the missions with the MiG 29, and F-14 available are my favorite, however the rarity of the missions (only 2 I believe) and the fact that one of those mission requires those planes to be unlocked, really limit when you can get on to play. If I'm lucky, being in North America, it's maybe once or twice every two weeks I will find those servers available, where there are people actually on. I understand wanting to give a good mix for everyone in the community, but I think either shortening the time of each mission in rotation, to maybe 3 hours or creating 1 or 2 more missions where these planes are available in the current rotation, would be nice and help increase the population on the severs especially in the Americas. Having shot down F-14s just by myself in MiG-21s, I enjoy the challenge, however I hate when I manage to finally get on to one of these maps only to have the message come up that there is only 5 minutes left, and I know my chance has more or less gone for the week. Also having a website that shows the current players on, the mission currently on, and what the clock in the mission is, would help with those of us that are trying to plan time to fly on specific maps, without having to log on to DCS.
