"Mutual Support" 2v2 BVR Tournament v3 - 10/17/2020
dundun92 replied to dundun92's topic in Tournaments & Events
That was the weapons set of the first edition actually, and I do intend to repeat it in a later edition. Just wanted to mix things up, as the last two editions were both with AMRAAMs. -
Su-30MKK Full fid or FC3 version?
dundun92 replied to TaxDollarsAtWork's topic in Deka Ironwork Simulations
AFAIK PESA doesnt have multiple beams, it just moves its beam extremely quickly. AESA can definitely have multiple beams at once. -
Flares are pretty simple. You need to get as many flares you can get out in as short a time period; flares are just a dice roll in DCS. You also want to minimize your own IR signature by dropping out of afterburner, and if possible all the way down to IDLE. Breaking head-on into the missile decreases your own IR signature. So for flares the sequence is cut throttle, break into the missile, and drop flares rapidly. Generally 10 flares dropped in one second (you can use something like Joy2Key or a macro script to do this) will spoof anything if you drop it in IDLE/MIL. When you are really close, like under 1-2nm, you also want to pre-flare (dropping 1-2 flares every second or two) before you get the missile launch, as when you are this close its hard to get the flares out of the jet fast enough if you wait till its launched. This applies to both SAMs and AAMs btw Chaff is slightly different. Against SAMs, the general rule is to drop a ton of chaff (something like 15-30 depending on the SAM) while beaming it (putting it near your 3-9 line). Against the SARH AAMs and the AIM-54/R-77, chaff is effective if you are close to being in the notch. You dont have to be very precise. Against the AMRAAM, with its new chaff modeling, it is only effective when you are almost precisely in the notch. The best way to chaff AMRAAMs is to drop like 5-10 chaff per second while turning through the notch at slow-ish speeds, like in these vids: If it doesnt work initially, turn in again and keep S turning in and out of the notch while chaffing. Hope this helps

[NO BUG] AIM120:countermeasure spoofing returned to the old value, Why??
dundun92 replied to wumas0201's topic in Weapon Bugs
Its definitely over performing but its not quite as good as the F-18s. This is especially noticeable vs cold targets. Our F-18 is pretty much on par with the RL F-15 radar.:megalol:. -

Yea the FC3 radars 100% take time to scan. If you want a radar to attack for being OP just look at our F-16 radar which is almost as good as the RL F-15 radar. Even our F-18 radar is over performing, albeit by not as much. -

The AIM-54 is not hard to chaff rn, easier than the current 120s, have you like actually tested it? -

I mean its so memey in DCS RN that i wouldnt mind ED just removing it. -
...being nitpicky but that has nothing to do with the FM. You could do the same in the F-18 before they added the over-G modeling. Its the DM that needs upgrading. I just dont think ED thinks its very high priority tbh. But this is all super OT

How are server settings applied? Especially "(local)"
dundun92 replied to Eldur's topic in Multiplayer
Im pretty sure local refers to your (local) settings, not the server settings. -
Im not saying the chaff just dissapears, im saying that the radar can filter out the chaff reflections because it has the wrong frequency. Granted, you could overwhelm the seeker at really close range, but thats clearly not whats going on here, at least not at the ranges encountered here. And BlackPixxel is correct, the AMRAAM works like a normal radar scan; it has a narrow beam that is swept across the 60° FoV, and it should take some time, though not a whole ton. Definitely would be an issue if the lock is lost at close ranges however. Also afaik its ±30 for a total of 60° though i could be wrong here. EDIT yup I was wrong it is ±60° for a total of 120°

This would be fantastic if you can get the info Deka. I think this would be very popular, a lot of people have been waiting for something like this. -
"Mutual Support" 2v2 BVR Tournament v3 - 10/17/2020
dundun92 replied to dundun92's topic in Tournaments & Events
So an initial question, looking for opinions: should the F-16 fall under rule 16? It lacks SARH missiles which is obviously a handicap but it has things that the other limited capability aircraft dont (decent radar, F-F DL, good RWR). This gives a ton of SA going into the merge that the other jets that are allowed 3 just dont have. What are you guys thoughts? -

INTRO Mutual Support is a 2v2 BVR Tournament. Naturally, the smaller team sizes often lead to more aggressive and interesting fights that are focused on solid mutual support. Various editions of it will have various rulesets based on the approximate time era chosen; this edition is early 1980s themed. DATE AND TIME This third edition of Mutual Support will start at 2030z on October 17th, 2020. The running time will be no greater than 3 hrs. If this is exceeded, the competition will be resumed one of the the following Saturdays at a similar time, based on the teams preference. Registration ends on October 15th. OBJECTIVES AND TOURNAMENT STYLE Each match is conducted as best of three rounds. The objective is to destroy all enemy aircraft (by doing so preventing them from RTBing), and still be able to RTB to the designated base. Note that enforcing the RTB is up to the loosing team; if they want they can tell the winning team to simply respawn. The competition is a knockout-style competition, with teams being eliminated after loosing a 3 round match. Time permitting, looser of the first round of fights will participate in a separate championship. RULES A single team may be comprised of as many pilots as desired; however, only two (see rule 16) may be used at a time. Only one pilot is allowed to change between rounds (note that for the F-14, changing RIOs is allowed as much as desired). Aircraft types may not be changed between rounds. Weapons loadout, however, can be. Mixed fleets of aircraft are allowed (e.g, one F-18C and one J-11A). All spawns are air spawns separated by 100-120nm. Either of designated airbases for the chosen arena (Anapa-Maykop and Kutaisi-Tiblisi) is a valid RTB airbase. The competition will be on Caucasus; there are two different arenas that will be alternated between rounds: Anapa-Maykop, and Kutaisi-Tiblisi. The map used first will be determined randomly. There is an engagement zone centered on the bullseye. This engagement zone will extend out to the spawn bases. You must stay within this engagement zone at all times; if you exit it you will be removed from the fight and cannot participate further. Weapons employment from outside the engagement zone is not permitted. [DELETED] Ping limit of 300 is server-enforced. Lonewolfs are allowed; the pairings are to be decided automatically the day before the matchup, and will stay that way for the tournament. Alternatively, you may decide on the pairings yourselves; in that case, simply state the agreed pairings no later than October 16th at 2300z. AWACS will be present, but will NOT have datalink enabled. To keep the event running smoothly, I would ask that suggestions/questions be kept until the end of the event, unless they are relevant to/will affect the remaining rounds (e.g, concerns about excessive lag/rubber banding). One squadron may enter up to 2 primary teams. Any further teams will be put on a reserve roster to allow space to accommodate more teams. If a team cannot show up, or registration is not full by registration end, reserve teams will be moved to the primary roster. Teams using aircraft defined as "reduced capability" may have an additional aircraft in the roster. The aircraft falling under this category are: F-5E, F-16C [Pending further discussion], MiG-21Bis. Teams applying this rule can have teams comprised of ONLY reduced capability aircraft (e.g, you need to have 3 F-5s, not 2 F-5s and 1 F-15). The JHMCS will be disabled for capable aircraft (F-16 and F/A-18) More Rules TBD WEAPONS RESTRICTIONS This edition features a roughly 1980s rule set with some exceptions. The BANNED weapons are: All ARH missiles, R-27ER/ET, AIM-9X, Nukes. Restricted weapons are: None COMMUNICATION All team captains must be present on the Alamo Squadron Teamspeak (server info below) during play. IP: 73.32.85.67 PW: 5775 Questions are to be asked either in PMs, or on this thread. STREAMING AND PRIZES There is no anticipated stream as of RN. If you would want to volunteer DM me. There are no prizes, its simply for the fun of it! REGISTRATION Registration format is as follows: [Team Name] Player #1 Player #2 Player #3 ... As an example Alamo Squadron Alamo 1-1 | dundun92 Alamo 1-2 | Dankguy There will be a limit of 16 teams. OTHER RESOURCES For those that may be interested, but may not be familiar with 2v2 BVR, the 2v1, 2v2, and Tactical Intercepts of "Fighter Combat: Tactics and Maneuvering" are very informative. It is widely available as a PDF online.

I think your confusing "keeps in the air flying for long time" and having a doppler shift. Yes chaff stays airborne for a long time, but only for a very short time does it have a Vc above the doppler filter. Once the chaff drops below the Vc filter (again this happens very quickly, chaff is very light), the radar can filter it out as normal. Now if the plane is passing through the beam when dispensing chaff, and the chaff has a higher RCS, its very likely that it could, for that moment, switch to the chaff, and temporarily take the beam off the target. However as most sources make clear, the chaff will drop below the doppler filter very quickly, and the missile would go back into search/memory, and find you when you reaqcuire IF you are in the FoV, which would be true for the almost instant recommits you see me doing in the vid. Now IK that proper chaff modeling isnt quite so simple to emulate. But at least ED, for now, can tune things so the same net effect is produced: e.g, you cant expect to notch for 0.1 sec and recommit and not expect the missile to find you again. And this is for all the DCS RF missiles.

[NO BUG] AIM120:countermeasure spoofing returned to the old value, Why??

I say raise all the missiles to the new standard of CCM, which is what I was saying in the russian missile thread. -
[NO BUG] AIM120:countermeasure spoofing returned to the old value, Why??
dundun92 replied to wumas0201's topic in Weapon Bugs
Im not "crying" about anything. From a enjoyment standpoint IDC how chaff resistant the AMRAAMs are. I could notch the old ones, and I can notch the new ones. If they make it hard to notch ill just respect MAR. If they dont Ill notch it. IDC. My concern is that ED is still in that phase of trying to force the "gladiatorial gunfights" as Nick Grey put it. They admited thats why the old chaff resistance of all the missiles are so horrible and unrealistic, yet it seems some people want it back there, and ED is doing it. I'm not picking fights with anyone. I asked for facts. As I said I havent seen anyone here give any evidence to convince me that modern RF AAMs are this easy to dodge IRL. -
Why would a missile lock on to a stationary chaff? Even if it locked on initially, its gonna drop below the doppler filter very quickly, and the missile is going to go back into search/memory mode, and reacquire you the instant you recommit. In all these cases I was in the seeker FoV when I recommitted. I know this because if you repeat this without chaff it reacquires as expected

Yes its true for all modern radar missiles, I already said that. Not sure what the point is? -

Fortunately idc about his BVR "tactics" ;), I dont need him to be good at BVR. But it appears you guys have started insulting peoples BVR skills rather that giving facts or participating in a productive discussion about missiles, as I expected. -

...and as expected youve given no facts, just insults. I tried to give you the chance but no, you just cant come up with any. And no Im not generalizing Flanker pilots, sorry if I came off like that. I myself like the Flanker (as anyone who has flown with me extensively would know). I also however like realisim, and it seems ED is departing from that. -
No they didnt lol, the AMRAAMs in the vids had PLENTY of energy left. They simply wont reacquire. I saw the AMRAAM drop off the RWR immediately after the notch, if its the tacview you are referring to.
