  1. Definately CPU/ram. Overclock your CPU if you can. You should also lower your MSAA to 2x or off even, depending on if you play MP.
  2. Partially related question: i might jump on the VR bandwagon too, but i fear my neck will be destroyed by dogfighting. How hard is it on the neck relative to trackir?
  3. This study was not meant to test AG weapons. The zunis in particular are known to have high drag. However, you can rest assured that the Aim7-9-120 all have the same drag
  4. Hello, i wanted to do some test with the F18 and the drag different pylons impart on the plane. Test conditions: 5000 ft MSL, 20°C temp, full fuel, unlimited fuel, full afterburner Image shows: Loadout, IAS https://imgur.com/a/BzfbvHs Conclusions: 1 - Number of missiles is not important; it only matters if the "slot" is occupied or not. Dual or single missiles makes no drag difference. 2- Type of missiles is not important; aim9x, 120c, aim7, all have the same drag. It does not matter if it's dual or single racked. 3- Fuselage and wingtip pylons impart less drag than underwing pylons. (actually, they are almost 0-drag) 4- (not shown) Removing pylons makes no difference with respect to empty pylons. 5- When you fire off missiles in a double rack, you lose drag -- but those missiles did not cause drag when first mounted. So, by bringing more missiles and firing them off, you actually lose drag and gain speed.
  5. Yeah, sorry about that. I was mad at this, and i just discovered how LTWS didn't work well, and i kinda lost it. Sorry
  6. Honestly, those who say IFF is working just don't understand the issue. I'm not saying there is a bug here and i understand what's happening. IFF needs two sources now identify as hostile, and clearly i was only presenting one source, because NCTR wasn't IDing the target for some reason (that's fine, and it's how NCTR works) and the bogey was of course not responding to IFF request since he was not friendly. So there was one source of "enemy id" only and that is not enough for an enemy HAFU. I get it. What i DON'T get, is, why make this change now when the "friendly" TD box is not yet ready? Now i have no way to know, by looking at the hud, if enemy was indeed "ambigous" or "friendly". I have to look down in a cluttered SA page, with not easy way to zoom in in order to see things that are close by. I have no feedback that the IFF is even working. The model visibility sucks, as we all know, so i can't visual ID. Why not implement two factor IFF when the rest of the system is ready, so that we can play in peace while it's not?
  7. Yes, everything is turned on. I just died to an F14 that was hot on me. I had him locked for like 15 miles. Pressed the IFF button like ten times, with no change in information displayed. SA page showed yellow contact. Hud showed a box. I held fire until i was at 3nm, dead on, still box, still pressing IFF with target locked and unlocked. No joy. There just was a friendly fire incident on the server so i didn't want to risk yet another one. Guess what? Of course he was an enemy and wasn't IDd. We are back 3 months in a single update.
  8. Yes, but we FINALLY had a working IFF last week and now they took it away... to have an incomplete system in its place, which can't show friendlies and enemies easily
  9. In addition to LTWS being useless in its current state, IFF is now borked again, too. Why even release it in this state? Keep that in a closed beta and don't release things that are so borked. Are we getting a full month of unusable F18 in MP now?
  10. No, that's an half-O. Were where you during flight school?
  11. Sure, but this doesn't work when you want to scan a visual area, for example when you suspect the enemy is in "that valley over there" and you are at 20k feet. I can't estimate the range correctly most of the times, and i end up finding the target too late. Some other times, i want to know if someone is taking off from an airport. I don't know the exact distance out and i'm too high to estimate the angle correctly. Do i point the antenna 20 degrees down or 30? That makes a lot of difference
  12. I did quite a few test with tacview. Mirage's BVR missiles are a little shorter ranged than aim7/120, but within that ranger they are MUCH, much better. Their guidance is fine. You can throw off ED missiles with extreme ease by maneuvering aggressively. They lose all speed at the first jink. If a matra is fired at you in range, it has a very high Pk. I'd say almost double that of the aim7.
  13. Sometimes i find i want to check a zone (that i can see in the game world, such as a valley) with my radar, but i'm not sure how to point the radar antenna to cover that zone that i phisically see. In this image correct? Do i point the antenna at the red/yellow caret to scan the red/yellow zone respectively, regardless of my altitude or distance?
  14. As title. There's always a line on the left DDI, even with no warnings, showing for example "ADV-". When you have engine heating on, it shows an advisory, etc. However, these messages are obscuring the SA page lower right BRA indication, basically forcing us to show the SA page on the lower DDI, which is generally not great. Any way to clear those indications? At least the general "ADV-" which is always there?
  15. SA page, ghost contacts Hello, bug reporting: it seems that on the SA page, sometimes, as yet for unknown reasons, ghost contacts are created. They continue at a fixed altitude and speed, in a straight line, even off the map. They do seem to disappear after a while. I've only seen yellow or red contacts to this as of now.
  16. How do you designate your flight members? Can you have a mixed flight and designate each aircraft manually?
  17. I have the same issue as the op. I have to choose between realistic cockpit sounds (being able to hear closeby afterburner for example) and not damaging my ears when i swap to F2 view.
  18. Hello, am i wrong in noticing blue players usually outnumber red? Would you consider moving the viggen over to red side, to even out the numbers?
  19. Does the F-16CJ have CFTs?
  20. Not really, no. Sometimes it bugs, and it's no user fault. It happened a week ago to me that a diamond turned square at 3 miles. In ladder, hot, not really maneuvering much, in the center of the hud. Sometimes it just goes mad.
  21. As title. I tend to use bypass ECM mode because i don't feel like editing the program each time i spawn, but then i cannot see how many countermeasures i have remaining. Will this change? Is there another indicator i don't know of?
  22. I think i saw a few days ago where Nineline said BRU-55 would eventually come?
  23. I agree with the others saying that no, you would not be able to. I used to think that like you before i had my first flight. I had hundreds of hours in DCS and other sims, and i went for a duo flight on a light plane. One goal of mine, except trying to pilot the plane, was to understand if i could manage to fly alone without the instructor. My answer was "probably not" right on takeoff, "very likely not" while flying. By the time we were landing, i was absolutely sure that i would die i a fiery crash if i ever attempted it without a lot of training. I was able to steer the plane around, follow a river, that kind of stuff. But it took an insane amount of concentration doing that, i was very stressed. I had to correct for wind gusts which were hitting us from the sides and below and you could feel it moving you from the seat. When banking maybe 30°, i felt like i would fall out of the sky. (i was probably doing uncoordinated turns) Then came the landing. We were flying maybe 70 knots on approach, and the runway looked like it was coming in SO FAST. I immediately knew i would never make it alone. For comparison, sometimes when i'm bored i approach the runway at 500 knots in DCS before braking and going left-right because going 170 knots for 2 minutes would make me fall asleep. We tried some "aggressive maneuvering" and it was hard to sustain an unexpected 2.5G in a turn made by the instructor. I was making wierd breathing noises unvoluntarily. The pilot then warned my we would try a slight negative G and that it would be even harder. We went for negative 0.5G for maybe 3 seconds (or risk stalling the engine). Took me half an hour on the ground to recover from that. So, no, SIM training would never be enough to fly a plane. Never mind a military jet. Not because of not knowing things, or how to fly, but because your body doesn't react like you think it would.
  24. I have an annoying bug where the JHCMS info is duplicated in the hud, with only a few degrees of separations, when the JHCMS is active but blanked. Some symbology is duplicated, or gets stuck somewhere in the hud. It's noticeable enough that i switch off and on the HMD everytime i need to look at the hud
  25. It shows that ED does not play MP at all and doesn't understand why TWS is useful. Who cares about amraams. In the hornet, if you see four dots in a hot zone in front of you, with no awacs, you cannot fight. By the time you lock all four, pray that IFF works (it does like 60% of the time) and you have a basic idea of who's enemy and who's friendly, the contact have moved around 5nm and all your information is now outdated.
