Yeah, sounds like you sent a SPI (maybe from a TGP). CURSOR ZERO is a good idea after getting a mark point or making one. You can run a CLASS check prior to attacking, and it will solve most problems. C: cursor zero / capture target L: Laser Armed A: Master ARM S: SMS set S: Steerpoint correct (if you change it, it messes up your captured target). And yeah... It's really cool to have this tool. I fly with my 89 year old dad, and it's great that he can finally attack dynamic targets with JDAM and TGP. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk

reported F-16 Excessive AoA in level flight
TheBigTatanka replied to Exorcet's topic in Bugs and Problems
Yeah, that's what I'm gathering too. I'm away at ground school learning a new jet, but i ran some of the cruise charts yesterday for a few loadouts i commonly use, and the numbers matched what i remember from the new flight model. I'll do some flight tests when I get home, but I'm excited about how it's looking. -
How to defeat ACE AI JF-17?『guns only 』

That's a little hard to believe. Clean Jeff's at airshows are doing around 13 deg/sec in their max performance turns, and other public sources say best sustained is 14 deg/sec. But, in DCS they are sustaining around 20 deg/sec with 2 missiles and light fuel. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk -

Tobias.... What's your assessment, is the jet where it's supposed to be in terms of achievable altitude, AOA, speed, and fuel flow with those loadouts. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk -

correct as-is Gun strafe - Can't designate with TGP?
TheBigTatanka replied to Fulgrim's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
The current F-16 can do what you want to do. I have a nice instructional video on how to do it from the operational flight test guys at Nellis. Sadly, it doesn't work in DCS. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk -
Again.... Really loving this technology. We flew a 3 ship today into an area with mobile SAMs, and using the HTS / TGP and datalink transmit. Anytime someone got MUD, someone else fired a HARM at the site, and another guy would find the site and zap it out to everyone, then whoever was naked could turn in and JDAM the site. We quickly took out 3 SAM systems and an EW radar. It's just such a cool capability. Thanks to whoever coded this. Hope you keep the good stuff coming, like TDOA. need track replay Link16 waypoints numbers
TheBigTatanka replied to Bricux's topic in Bugs and Problems
It might depend on what kind of point the source was. I've had HTS generated datalink points sent to me and start at 127. I think TGP generated started at 500. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk -

Yea, but you can still send markpoints. Just have the Markpoint page open on the DED when you do the IFF In long press. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk

Yeah, a clean JF-17 flown by a competent pilot is a BFM monster. I don't think anyone (who can talk about it) has seen a JF-17 EM diagram, but in DCS it has better rate and radius ability than the new F-16 flight model. That doesn't make sense to me based on thrust to weight ratio alone (we should be able to beat it down on energy after a few lead turns, but we can't.) Good news is that the Jeff doesn't have HOBS.... So shoot him early and often with a 9X. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk -
Tacan navigation - air refuling still not working
TheBigTatanka replied to skywalker22's topic in General Bugs
I flew Pacer CRAG jets exclusively, and i don't think anyone ever saw bearing to us. Distance is the only information needed for a point parallel rendezvous (used for large aircraft) because the track has an IP and a CP. On the ground we gonk out the offset and distance required to turn in front of the receiver and roll out in front of them on the track. We orbit offset the track, and when the receiver calls IP inbound, we drive towards them in the offset and watch that air to air TACAN readout. True airspeed at altitude and wind corrections have gone into this offset distance and turn distance. It works out pretty great because everyone is flying contract airspeeds for their type of aircraft. For fighters, we refuel in an anchor. We load the boundaries of that anchor from our FMS and it draws the boundaries on our MFD. We then use TCAS as the main tool for effecting the rendezvous. Our FMS allows us to set a particular transponder code and label it. So if I know my next receivers are squaking 1234, i can dial that in and label them. At 40nm I'll see a blip pop up on the TCAS with their callsign. Then i time my turn towards the edge of the anchor to be there right as they cross into the area. I try to turn away from the fighters so I'm abeam to them at 5nm, which allows for them to modulate thrust and lead turn without having to pull a bunch of Gs. I don't know if fighters are using TCAS, but the guys I've talked to said they use datalink and radar to find us once they are pointed at the anchor area. No bearing pointer needed. Let's keep it civil here, it's not reasonable to tell people they have no idea about this or that. We're all collaborating on a cool project here, it's not a contest of wills. That shuts down people's willingness to share what they do know. I wonder how we can check that cruise AOA against known data. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk

It is indeed more draggy with 2 bags and a 5x1 loadout. On an 80nm commit, i was just able to break mach 1 by the time I was ready to shoot floggers at ~35nm and 36k feet. Previously, i would be around 1.1 or 1.2 mach at that point. Not complaining though, the jet really feels better in all regimes. I too hope it's all accurate, but that's for more physics minded people than me to figure out. Glad we've got the updates we got anyway. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk

Tacan navigation - air refuling still not working
TheBigTatanka replied to skywalker22's topic in General Bugs
I flew KC-135s in the USAF. Our TACANs for refueling are A/A only. And we only get distance, not bearing to one another. We certainly don't have a TACAN beacon onboard (like a ground based station). We just use the A/A feature of TACANs that allow us to see distance from our receiver (when set to 63 channels apart) and then use that data to make the rendezvous work. We just ran a multiplayer flight zapping TGP SPI, markpoints, and HTS data back and forth.... Talk about being able to rapidly get a flight attacking a target. It's super cool. Previously to this, our older pilots (over 50) have struggled with using the TGP. But, today we zapped them the target, and they drop JDAM within a minute.... It's really cool. Thanks for the flight model updates, it's everything I've been looking forward to. Flies like a dream. I'm gitty with joy over how well it rates. Being able to pitch to 9Gs at the merge, and hold that until the bandit exits your turn circle, and still hold 400+ knots until the next merge..... It's fantastic. Thank you. Now.... Let's go kill some hornets. Don't follow them downhill! Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk

Here is how I use it in BVR.... If I'm on a banzai flow, and if I'm spiked at decision range, i turn to the notch, turn on ECM, and dump chaff to break the lock. In that case, my wingman goes in and kills (because we've already established numerical superiority.) If I've got pitch-in criteria met, i turn off the jammer and pitch in. Otherwise, leave it on as i exit (pitch-in criteria not met). Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk

Upcoming flight model adjustments

To be fair, when we (our virtual squadron) flies BFM, we turn off G effects. No need to have distractions when you are trying to teach aspect angles, range cues, and turn circles. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk -
F-16C vs F/A-18C for BVR & AA in general
TheBigTatanka replied to El buscador de la verdad's topic in Chit-Chat
Both platforms are good for defensive counter air. Neither of them have the radar nor the kinnematics for really offensive tactics. That being said, the F-16 has better kinnematics than the 18. If you have a 80+nm commit, you can take ~40nm high Pk shots (assuming bandits don't turn around and you had radar contact). But both jets are really good at shooting down waves upon waves of MiG-23 strikers. My buddies and I regularly do 4v24 DCAs against MiG-23s with the F-16. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk -
Upcoming flight model adjustments
TheBigTatanka replied to Diesel_Thunder's topic in DCS: F-16C Viper
It should be made realistic, regardless of how it influences people to fly one module over another. Eventually, the heatblur Eurofighter will out-rate the F-16. It's also just a correction to the flight dynamics, it doesn't mean people will dominate with the jet in BFM. If you allow yourself to fall victim to a hornet or tomcat gameplan, the rate of the F-16 won't help you. People will also pick aircraft they want to fly based on their overall capes, not just turn rate and G. Guys who want to fly attack, will fly A-10s, etc. Anyway, I'm super stoked that we will be getting an F-16 that will feel like an F-16. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk- 78 replies

I've been asking about this too on the viper forums. The modes and the HUD indications are necessary to properly use the weapon. I'm hoping this gets attention now that the AMRAAM has been reworked. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk
